The writers  made it clear that Nynaeve and Lan were both physically/ emotionally attracted to each other, and that they also were  emotionally attached to one another.  ( “ l never really understood your taste in traveling companions” “you’re not exactly who l thought you were”; “you are exactly who l thought you were” ,“she touched the one power for the first time to save your life” ,“she knows her heart she’s falling for you”….)

Feelings are clearly involved. If feelings weren’t involved Nynaeve wouldn’t be bothered by Lan and Moiraine’s bond. The words she chose, and the tone of voice she used to express herself clearly prove that she doesn’t like the bond they share .“And now you finally belong . TO HER”.  Why would the fact that a man she has no feelings for, belongs to another bother her? This is Nynaeve we’re talking about!!! A Wisdom. Wisdoms are expected to remain single and probably chaste. So who Lan belongs to should be the least of her concerns, but it isn’t. Why? The text “ you belong to her”, the subtext “ l want you to be mine”.

They ineluctably stare into each other eyes for a long time after that “TO HER”….Nynaeve ends up looking down and breaking eye contact, probably because she’s getting too emotional.

Lan notices it, that’s why he reaches over to tenderly hold her hand…and they gently caress each other’s hands. Lord help!!! MY HEART!!!! 

l love this moment between them. What I love about it, is that it shows Nynaeve rather vulnerable right before Lan takes her hand and caresses it.

He tries to reassure her… (that lil smiles she has on when Lan says “ she doesn’t own me” MY FEEEELS!!! insert crying cat.)

but he also reminds her that “A Wisdom never weds”. Which makes her break eye contact( Again. That’s something she does a lot when she’s feeling overwhelmed) and look down then aside. She clearly needs to take a moment to get her emotions together.

This scene…It’s bittersweet and complicated, her small smile as he caresses her cheek…She’s a bit sad and a bit overwhelmed… She’s trying to force her emotions back in and she’s failing miserably. She’s definitely feeling something deep, there’s no denying it.

Look at them!!! Look at the way Lan look at Nynaeve before he softly caresses her cheek.

Look at  Nynaeve’s face  when she looks back up at Lan!!!!!!! He looks into her tear filled eyes and says STAY. l want to cry !!!…. And the way her face soften a little, as a tiny little grin appears at the corner of her mouth…

  Sniiffff this scene got me so emotional!

When The King Loves The Queen

She was not what he expected at all. So far, nothing on this journey had been what anyone expected. Yet Lan felt that the least expected part of this search was falling for her.

If he had been told before that she was a future Wisdom, Lan would have been kicking himself at his initial foolishness. Then again, one tended to forget that when you’re on the run from Trollocs.

Nevertheless, Lan never intended to fall for Nynaeve. What started as an untrusting union of means had now culminated into a blossoming union between Wisdom and Warder. Her words, her smile, and the way she cared for those they had searched for. Making love to her was no different either. It was a heavenly experience that both surrendered to, and sought the healing and comfort within each other.

Lan didn't want to admit it yet, but he wanted her after his brother's. To be there with him, for him, to hold him close. She had seen his pain, his lowest moment, and all he saw in her eyes were pain and pity. He imagined her that night holding him close for comfort, running her fingers through his dark hair. But dreams paled in comparison to the physical bond they had with each other.

With Lan, Nynaeve felt safe for once in her life. To just let go and be vulnerable with the one she came to care for. A gentle, firm man with the body built of a god. He, more noble than a king, and she just as regal and loving as the fair queen. Perhaps that is why she was drawn to the prayer, the one that brought her comfort. Maybe, it made sense now that Nynaeve saw a bit of herself within the very last words a king proclaimed to his queen.

Just FYI, I am a book reader so I do have some book knowledge (from waaaay long ago so it’s not super fresh). But the first part is strictly Show!Lanaeve based. I left some little bit of book talk for the PPS section way at the end which can be skipped.

 #HEIGHT DIFFERENCE IS MY WEAKNESS

Ok ok I know a lot of book readers are bummed about Lanaeve getting together so soon because it means theres not as much of a slow burn and not enough angst and such... but I just want to say- they only “got together” when fully believing they would both die the next day. They thought this was their last night, WHICH MEANS they are not really together together. And when they survive their certain death, that is going to put them in an exceedingly difficult position.

These two are ridiculously duty bound. The scene between them makes that abundantly clear- their lives belong to their charges, to Moiraine, or to the Emonds Fielders. Warder, King, Wisdom, Healer... they set aside their duties for one night, believing it was the last chance they would ever have to do so. And look what happened! Lan failed to protect Moiraine, and Nynaeve failed to protect Rand. Their charges, people they feel wholly responsible for, ran off on a suicide mission with no warning and no backup. And that is absolutely going to drive them both to cling even harder to their duty than they were before! They will both see that night as a moment of weakness that mustn’t be repeated, and each will feel they must pull away from the other... However much it hurts them both.

Yes they may have kissed, they may have shared a night, but this slow burn is not even close to over yet. We have so so much angst coming our way, so many forces of the universe just itching to rip these two apart before they can find their way back together. So buckle up babes, it’s gonna be a long ride yet!
