”Sometimes a Surma man will paint the girl to whom he is attracted. This provides an excellent opportunity not only to perfect his painting technique but also to get to know the woman of his desire. This man uses a stalk of green grass to apply paint made from pulverized leaves mixed with chalk and water” | Image and caption ”Painted Bodies” by Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher

Water Entity Offering Ive been thinking about the similarities between my spiritual work and my art work in regards to balancing and harmonizing with existence. Because existence is constantly transforming it is difficult to bring the energies necessary for a balance. the process of my work is similar. I am constantly having to approach the work from diff angles constantly faced with different dilemma's. But what I like most is the power I have over my paintings. A healer knows it is not up to them whether or not their patient is healed it is the patient that must commit to taking the proper herbs or following a certain diet. But paintings are different in this regard. paintings listen they want balance. It is the artist fighting himself and the work that results in physically muddy or unbalanced outcomes. it's a disrespectful and careless attitude towards ones process and the materials. Any great artist must work on finding a balance in all areas of their life if they want to produce quality work. we need to exorcise our brains and respect the materials, respect the process, because like I said earlier the paintings listen it is us that dont. Give them a chance to open themselves up to u. if u want something great to come from your work u have to put something great into it. ... I have to thank my ancestors and water entity for their presence in my life and for the opportunities they have sent to me to make great work.
