“I always thought the word “common” was an interesting thing. It would be used in “Fanfare For The Common Man” as this idea of the noble savage, whereas it was a real insult in Sheffield to call someone “common.” That set off memories of this girl that I met at college. She wanted to go and live in Hackney and be with the common people. She was from a well-to-do background, and there was me explaining that that would never work. I hated all that cobblers you got in films and magazines in which posh people would “slum it” for a while. Once I got that narrative in my head it was very easy to write, lyrically.” - Jarvis Cocker
Pulp - Sorted For E`s And Wizz (Jools Holland 2002)
It’s been a while since we had a time machine post so thought i would kick off the week with this gem from Pulp. A live version from the Jools Holland show in 2002, better than just an audio video. The song is stands up today, Pulp had an influence on many bands that followed them.
Sorted for E’s & Wizz is a from Pulp’s UK number one album Different Class, it was released as a double A-sided single with Mis-Shapes on the 25th September 1995 and reached number two in the UK charts. It was Pulp’s second successive number two hit in 1995.
Oh, is this the way they say the future’s meant to feel?
Or just twenty thousand people standing in a field?
And I don’t quite understand just what this feeling is
But that’s okay ‘cause we’re all sorted out for E’s and wizz
And tell me when the spaceship lands ‘cause all this has just got to mean something-ingOh, in the middle of the night
It feels alright, but then tomorrow morning
Oh, oh, then you come down, ohOh yeah, the pirate radio told us what was going down
Got the tickets from some fucked up bloke in Camden Town
Oh, and no-one seems to know exactly where it is
But that’s okay 'cause we’re all sorted out for E’s and wizz
At four o'clock the normal world seems very, very, very far away
All rightIn the middle of the night
It feels alright, but then tomorrow morning
Oh, oh, then you come down, ohJust keep on movingEverybody asks your name, they say we’re all the same and now it’s
“Nice one, ” “geezer”
But that’s as far as the conversation went
I lost my friends, I dance alone
It’s six o'clock, I want to go home
But it’s “no way, ” “not today”
Makes you wonder what it meant
And this hollow feeling grows and grows and grows and grows
And you want to call your mother
And say “mother, I can never come home again
'Cause I seem to have left an important part of my brain somewhere
Somewhere in a field in Hampshire, all right"In the middle of the night
It feels alright, but then tomorrow morning
Oh, oh, then you come down
Oh, oh, then you come down
Oh, what if you never come down?
Got tired of seeing the same glowcore gif's over and over again on those stim boards. (Not saying those stim boards aren't pretty! I just wanna see something different.) Figured I might find some more gifs for tumblr to use!
