My lengthy list of all-time favourite (live-action) films - part two
10. Velvet Goldmine 1998
so many little bits and scenes that make this such a goigeous film. 'the ballad of maxwell demon' and the 'tumbling down' scene ought to be etched in cinematic history.
9. Kill Your Darlings 2013
probably the best of the best. ginsberg, kerouac, and burroughs. still drool over the library scene whenever i get the chance.
8. Kill Your Friends 2015
can probably tell how i came across it. very similar to american psycho (theme wise), but a lot heavier 'n gooder.
7. Hot Fuzz 2007
also including the other two from the cornetto trio (but this one's just the best). can never get sick of this.
6. Dead Babies 2000
slightly in love with mod/rocker 'sex 'n drug' themes. pretty gross in nature but pretty in general?? 'bit 'agatha christie''
5. The Wicker Man 1973
it's beautiful? can't get enough of the scottish cult/pretentious dialogue. bitsa folklore riddled throughout.
4. Battle Royale 2000
everyone loves a bit of 'children betraying their morals' and countdown death fights. brilliant bit near the beginning when they're shown the "safety video".
3. Nocturnal Animals 2016
another one of ford's wonders. dream cast, really sick horrible feeley plot + brilliant, weird bookends for the very start 'n end.
2. Hector and the Search For Happiness 2014
despite being a bit cheesey/nonsensical from time to time, it's insanely beautiful and the first film i did a proper sob over.
1. Swiss Army Man 2016
sentimentally and emotionally, this will probably remain my favourite movie 'til the day i drop dead. incredible soundtrack by 40% of manchester orchestra, and it's the daniels' debut?? unreal.
Favourite Live-action Films PART 1 / Favourite Stop-motion Films
My lengthy list of all-time favourite (stop-animated) films
10. Frankenweenie 2012
a classic tim burton + horrible little creature-knits like the gremlin sea monkeys exploding and little girl's cat/bat impalation.
9. Coraline 2009
beldan is proper nightmare material. always loved the back and forth stuck/sick feeling i get when I watch it 'cause there's always something else, like a needle hand or her mum 'n dad not coming home (too many 'almosts').
8. Chicken Run 2000
absolutely adore aardman works. again, i'm a little obsessed with the 'near death' moments + i'd kill for the gravy in the pie machine.
7. Fantastic Mr. Fox 2009
wes "knolling" anderson. one of the best roald dahl books (kids' ones at least). hysterical and gorgeous style that is perfect (Isle of Dogs too).
6. Shaun the Sheep Movie 2015
i'm a sucker for aardman. grew up a little on the series but the film was WILD. very decent plot and cracking soundtrack.
should warn you that the rest of the list is just wallace & gromit
5. Wallace & Gromit : A Matter of Loaf and Death 2008
bakery house set-up? down with that. bread themed pun as the basis for a murder motif? poifect + you get to see wallace's arse.
4. Wallace & Gromit : The Curse of the Were Rabbit 2005
i still have an enamel pin of 'hutch' on my bag from 2011 + my phone password's the same as gromit's for his marrow greenhouse.
3. Wallace & Gromit : A Close Shave 1995
terrifying, distressing, brain-dead shaun crossover thing. you'll never forget wallace's face when he finds out the girl of his dreams can't eat cheese.
2. Wallace & Gromit : The Wrong Trousers 1993
arguably the best of the 'franchise'. convict penguin, who thinks 'convict penguin'? best scenes - the heist + the train tracks.
1. Wallace & Gromit : A Grand Day Out 1989
perfection. you can still see the fingerprints in the clay. cooker is precious, bless the skiing oven-bot.
when i grow up im gonna make a movie adaptation of the museum of anything goes remember that because in about 20-30 years time maybe 40 if i leave it fucking long enough youll see something along the lines and think "well at least he fucking did it" and we can all die with a little more hope in the future than we started off with. because (i know it has been said, but) the span of everything so far comprehendable is so massive compared to the stars and bangs and the singularity of us as individuals, based on one's memory or ability to write down an event or film it paired with the capability of being able to read and listen and watch and maybe process it to emotion. if that's one fucking life then i can't understand why i can sit down without crying or waste a second on something so obviously trivial but labelled a curricular requirement. i can't process why so many people can't grasp simple moral concepts and /or the masses can't change despite having a fucking lifetime to do it because of probability and chance you'll emerge as a dickhead . so why even think i could amount to anything less than a creator if its all i fucking want to do because for this blink i choose to create, that's my function im pretty set on that one , despite my flesh and neuro-jacked head not being your own we've all got to hope that at least everyone can get it at least everyone gets the most out of this cyclical shit-show.
There’s no such thing as to “overreact”. You act as you do. No amount of chemical compound or vocal stimulus can make you act more than what you are. There is no limit to what you express in those moments.
