It's worth reading the manga too, specifically for the large amount of extra art that shows the artist's commitment to diversity in faces, body types, and so on. It's a real treat in its own right.

A lot of biological forms and borders this time around, it seems.

Very happy with the colour this time, and managed to figure out the fir needle looking pattern, although it was a bit rough to start. Getting there.

Very pleased with the colour in this one, although I might have crowded it a bit too much at the top. Otherwise, it turned out very nice, and it's a subtle effect on the page.

Was tempted to colour the flowers in the upper left too, but felt it might detract a bit. Came out okay in grayscale anyway, so no loss there.

Another sketchbook page, this time entirely in black and white. Trying to grapple with the Gordgeous tangle, but still not quite getting it. The middle one turned out okay, but I like the stem on the bottom.

Went kinda all in on the Flux pattern with this page. Turned out really well though. So did turning Florz into a mesh curtain.

Happy with this. I'm getting somewhere, I think.

Another sketchbook page filled. Not literally, there's still loads of room, but I loves me some white space.

There are parts of this that are totally awful and badly drawn, but the magic of complexity means that in and of themselves they don't matter. If, say, the c-chains were alone on the page and not overlapping or nearby other elements, they'd look awful. Not so in a busier context!

A good lesson for artwork in general, I think.

Some sketchbook stuff.

Coming off a long dry spell over the summer, and trying to establish good habits, and don't feel confident enough to jump straight into making Zentangle or other pieces. So I decided to familiarize myself with the patterns I collected up back in the spring (somewhere around 275 of them!) and I'm drawing them alphabetically in my sketchbook. I'm only in the B's so it's gonna take a while.

Surprised at how much I'm liking ones I initially hate once they're in context though, like that central figure with the ribbons. Just goes to show that you can make appealing complexity from clumsy individual elements.

Meet the Four Artemis Astronauts Who Will Fly Around the Moon

Today, we revealed the four astronauts who will fly around the Moon during the Artemis II mission, scheduled to launch in 2024. Get to know them:

Christina Koch

Meet the first member of our Artemis II crew: mission specialist Christina Koch. Koch visited the International Space Station in 2019, where she participated in the first all-woman spacewalk with Jessica Meir. She began her NASA career as an electrical engineer at Goddard Space Flight Center.

Jeremy Hansen

Representing the Canadian Space Agency is Jeremy Hansen from London, Ontario. Col. Hansen was a fighter pilot with Canadian Armed Forces before joining the Canadian Space Agency, and currently works with NASA on astronaut training and mission operations. This will be Col. Hansen’s first mission in space.

Victor Glover

Victor Glover is our Artemis II pilot. Glover is part of our 2013 class of NASA astronauts and was the pilot for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-1 mission. He’s logged 3,000 flight hours in more than 40 different aircraft.

Reid Wiseman

...and rounding out our Artemis II crew: mission commander Reid Wiseman. Wiseman lived and worked aboard the International Space Station as a flight engineer in 2014. He also commanded the undersea research mission NEEMO21, and most recently served as Chief of the NASA astronauts.
