The Last Page

-Christmas 2014, I recieved SEVERAL sketchbooks for Christmas. I had just gotten into art, and my parents wanted to encourage that. -For whatever reason, the first day I went to draw in the first of my sketchbooks, I wrote on the cover: 12/28/14 through / / -Over the years these sketchbooks slowly filled with drawings. But at some point around 2019 or so, I attempted to pivot to digital, and something made me feel… Guilty. I resolved that I wanted to fill all of at least one size of sketchbook. For the foreseeable future, those hundreds of pages would be my project, and I would lean into traditional art until then. -It's been about half a decade since then. I've had a lot of highs and lows in life, and things have changed a lot. I've grown and improved at art a LOT, and my approach and feelings about art in general are much different than what they were all those years ago. But, at last, I made it. Page 410. Page 40 in the latest sketchbook. So I've drawn this drawing in that last page, to commemorate that project, but also to look forward to new horizons. -I plan on exploring digital art now. I want to get to know the medium. I'm actually quite sure I will be making some shitty art for a while until I figure it out! But I'm oddly excited for that prospect. I've never been content in art when I'm not pushing myself. It's going to be a new challenge and a new adventure. Is it my only option? No. I have other sketchbooks in other sizes. I could always fall back to my comfort zone. But this is what I want right now, and I can't wait to start on a new adventure.
