Wow. She came out here to have a good time and feels so attacked rn. Just kidding. It would make a difference to her. Being lonely but afraid to fully let people in is a horrible combo.
âť› I wonder how many of you are afraid to admit you’re lonely, and how it would feel for you to actually give it voice and let it be known… would it make a difference to you to know someone else sees your pain? âťśÂ

Will things really go back to normal? Maybe not- not right away, at least. But are you gonna let that stop you?

He sighed and shook his head. Not to say no, but just… at everything.
“Yeah.” He paused, having already started in on his parfait.  “Three years ago. I played three weeks in a row. Josh was my partner for week two.” And then he paused.  “And again, not too long ago. Not the full week. I kind of crashed the party about halfway through.”

She had started to eat her own parfait has she listened to his tale. She had thought his name vaguely rang a bell, now she knew why. He was the player who had saved the city from erasure she had recalled hearing about it some time ago. She had to imagine that sort of weight from his reputation had to be a heavy burden to carry. So she simply gave a small smile of gratitude as a way of acknowledging his service to the city before speaking once more.Â
“I see. The game can be quite physically and emotionally taxing so I commend you for seeing it through to get your second chance.”
She softly smiled as she paused to take another bite of her parfait.Â
“I’m sure that Josh...didn’t make things easier your second time around...He’s never been much of a people person due to well having special talents that very few individuals are granted.”

Well, that caught him by surprise. He had his suspicions when he heard the name, but she actually knew Joshua? Outside of Mr. Hanekoma, he’d never actually met someone in Shibuya who knew Josh prior to the Reaper’s Game.
He didn’t comment right away, though. Instead, he got their parfaits and sat down where Lucy had picked.
After handing his companion hers, he considered his words. And then, “Don’t suppose The Reaper’s Game means anything to you?”

Based on his response, it was obvious to tell that he was at the very least aware of the reapers game if not knowledgeable about it...that was good. Perhaps she could be honest with her troubles then? Having an ally to confide her troubles to would be rather nice right about now. Offering thanks for the food, she took her parfait before answering his question.
“I am indeed quite familiar with the concept and inner workings of the reapers game. Based on the knowledge that you asked such a question...I’m figuring that you are a former player right?”

That had him sighing and shaking his head. Even as he tried to be a better person, sanctifying Josh in his memories wasn’t exactly in his priorities.
“Josh is combative, lazy, and does what he wants. But he’s not so bad, I guess. Most of the time.” They had reached the parfait shop by then, and Neku reached for his wallet.  “Go ahead and get what looks good to you and pick out a table. You don’t look like you can walk much longer.”
The place wasn’t that crowded, surprising considering he’d been expecting more people to be taking shelter during the storm. As they stepped inside, he turned to shake out the umbrella before fully closing it.  “Everyone has their faults, though. We’re only human.” A seemingly innocuous statement, though if you knew who he was talking about, it’d be a pretty good joke.
Hearing the name of the person who they talking about, she could understand the joke but also be a bit surprised by Neku’s prior statement. Who would have thought that her brother...the furthest thing from a people person would acknowledge the benefit of socializing with others.Â
“So I’ve heard. Though I will say I’m surprised to hear that you got that advice from him though...He never was much of a people person...not that I can blame him considering how he’s been treated in the past after all.”
She stated softly as she made her way into the parfait shop. He was accurate in his assessment of her condition. She wouldn’t be able to make it much farther without her legs giving out on her.Â
“Alright. Thank you very much. that’s quite kind of you.”
With that said, she ordered a ruby chocolate delight and found a table to sit at. She would offer to pay him back for her parfait when he made it over to the table.

The last name made him stop for just a moment, and he turned to look at her. Even if she did look like Josh, though, would it matter? Josh looked like whatever the hell he wanted. And who knows if his name was his real one, or one he’d picked out himself.
So he decided to leave it for now.
“Don’t worry about it,” he said.  “I sort of… actively try to help people, you know? A friend once told me that you find out new things about yourself by letting strangers in. So who knows? Maybe you’ve already helped me out.”
Well if he had asked, he wouldn’t really be wrong as there was a blood relation somewhat. Half sibling relationships were complicated to say the least.Â

“I see. Then I guess you could say we’re alike in that aspect. I actively try to help people myself even if it does get me in a bit of trouble sometimes.”Â
She couldn’t help but faintly giggle some as she slowly but surely was following after him, using nearby objects like walls or railings to keep herself from falling to her knees again.Â
“Sounds like you have a wise friend...but even still should you ever find yourself in need of aid, you can count on me. It’s the least I can do for a good samaritan like you Neku. Perhaps we can talk more in depth when we’re at the restaurant? I would like to get to know you a little bit better if you don’t mind me requesting such a thing.”Â

Yeah, at least the part about standing had been pretty obvious to him. He’d had the instinct to let her lean on him but decided against it for now. They were strangers, after all. She’d probably think he was strange, just trying to help her like this out of nowhere.
Still, it wasn’t like he was the same person he was three years ago. He genuinely felt bad for her, if nothing else.
“Come on,” he said, nodding over his shoulder.  “The parfait shop isn’t too far from here.”
“They won’t think it’s weird if they see me sitting in there with you for a while. I spent enough time in there.” Not necessarily by choice but sometimes the Twisters wanted something sweet and, of course, they were limited to what shops had Reaper stickers on them.
And then he paused. Right. Intros.
“I’m Neku, by the way,” he said.  “Neku Sakuraba.”
She was truly touched by his kindness as it was a blessing after the hell of a day she had been through. That’s right, there was a parfait shop not too far from here. She had never been inside it but she did enjoy sweets so perhaps it would be nice to talk to this good samaritan in a more pleasant environment. She was still a little bit wobbly on her feet but at least she slowly try to walk again as their was now someone here to help her up if she tripped and fell.
“That’s very kind of you, thank you so much for all your help Neku. It’s a pleasure to meet you. My name’s Lucy. Lucy Elizabeth Kiryu. I’ll be sure to return the favor of kindness when I’m in better shape physically.”

His thought process wouldn’t be wrong if she was being completely honest with herself. She probably really did look pathetic barely being able to stand with her normally smiling mask crumbling into pieces. Honestly she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do anymore. Being played like a fool by bastards upstairs. But she refused to go back to them. She wouldn’t take part in any sort of plan that would result in the loss of innocent lives. It was just...she wasn’t sure where to go without fear...But it wasn’t like she could fully explain that to an RG denizen.
“I was hoping to find someone to ask for advice but I don’t even know where on earth to start looking for them.”
She sighed some as she took a moment to gather her thoughts.
“I definitely didn’t intend to stay out here in the rain. It’s just well...I kinda got myself into a bit of trouble and can barely stand let alone walk so I’ve just been kinda stuck for lack of a better word.”
@innocentbrokenangel from here
“It’s fine,” he said, adjusting his own stance a bit so they were still both under the umbrella. Honestly, he hadn’t expected to see anyone out when the rain really picked up, so that girl had been a double shock- first that she was there at all, and second with how defeated she looked. A wet puppy probably looked like it had more will to keep going than this girl did.
“Were you heading somewhere?” he asked finally. He was tempted to say something about maybe she could go to a public bath house to warm up, but it didn’t look like she had a bag with her, and therefore: no change of clothes. No use warming up if she was going to put those cold, soaking clothes right back on.  “Looks like the rain’s gonna keep going for a while, so I’m kind of doubting you planned on staying out here.”

There was always repercussions when it came to standing against the heavens...Lucy knew that from the start when she made that choice...Today was just an especially painful experience as soon as she made it back down to the RG, collapsing to her knees where she stood there in the Udagawa backstreets. Every muscle in her body ached and burned, making even moving a tremendous task. Then it started to rain. There was something comforting in the feeling of rain falling and hitting her skin but as time past and she started to become drenched, her body started to shiver, making her her achy muscles hurt more than they already did...
...Until the rain seemed to suddenly stop falling...? She was momentarily puzzled until she heard a voice asking if she was ok. It was at this moment that Lucy took the effort to shakily get to her feet, using the mural wall as a support to keep her from falling again before addressing the kind young man before her.
“I’ve had much better days but I’ll be alright. Thank you for sharing your umbrella. It would be quite difficult for me to get one in my current condition so I appreciate the shelter from the rain.”Â

[ downpour ] receiver finds sender out in the rain
Neku found himself stuck back in Udagawa when the rain started. Not being expected home for a few hours, he didn't really want to take an earlier train and face his mother asking questions about why his plans had changed. Rain shouldn't affect plans, after all. Not ones that weren't outside, anyway.
But he also didn't want to just hang out in stores until it stopped (which wouldn't be for a while, if the weather app on his phone was correct). So he bought an umbrella from one of the hastily-relocated displays in a store and found himself wandering.
At least until he came upon a girl, out alone. She was already soaked, but Neku still found himself moving the umbrella to cover both of them. "You okay?"
