TCW creatives really sat down every other episode and went "have we been racist enough recently? I feel like we haven't been racist enough recently." and then they went and made another alien species

Honestly my personal favourite interpretation of how the OT trio line up with the sequel trio will always be
Luke = Finn
Leia = Poe
Rey = Han
idk why my first thought was "well now ive gotta draw them as that one tremendously slutty ANH poster from the 70s" but anyway that's what happened

I like that Padmé represents Naboo but Naboo seems to represent Palpatine. The planet is consistently his parallel.
Like Naboo is a picturesque planet steeped in tradition. It looks nice but its VERY traditional with a strong bias towards human colonists. Everything looks ideal but its vibrant culture relies on the planet’s isolation and for most of its history the exclusion of the native Gungans or other nonhuman influence.
Naboo’s landscapes are peaceful rolling hills and stunning water features, but below its surface it’s a hollow planet filled with dark cave systems and monsters. It’s beautiful cities and peaceful surface are both concealing corruption and a dark abyss. It’s crust was filled with plasma which is used in many weapons and war machines, and will essential fuel the clonewars.
And the implication of Padmé’s highly trained handmaidens who function as guards and body doubles is that threat of assassination on Naboo’s child rulers is high. Her outfits which are absolutely beautiful are weighed down by concealed weapons and surveillance devices bc Naboo is such a nice place.
Not to mention the whole child ruler situation only allows the adults around them to manipulate and take advantage. Even Padmé, the perfect prodigy queen, was manipulated by Palpatine. The whole setup just breeds corruption while mysticising the purity of young children and using them as a shield.
Lowkey, but not entirely, like how Palpatine uses Anakin to represent the war effort as it’s young perfect hero. The empire does eventually need Vader the way Naboo needs its queen, as a symbol and as a puppet for deeper political mechanisms.
Naboo is just the perfect place to produce a man like Palpatine.

Im thinking about The Call again. Ezra could hear the Purrgil out in Deep Space, where sound doesn’t carry. It was his first instinct to follow them. The oldest of them watched him, and connected with him. A Purrgil fell beside him, and Ezra was closer to it than to his family.
The Purrgil circled below the asteroid Ezra and the Ghost would land on, just as the wolves circled the door into the past and future. Hyperspace eyes from the Purrgil, hyperspace eyes from the wolves. He saw the Loth-cat and Loth-wolves in his dreams. They showed him the way. He spoke freedom to the planet; the Purrgil came.
They renew themselves below the gas. They saved his life beneath the gas. He led them to take the refinery. They took him from Lothal.
The Jedi said the Force had a destiny for everyone, but they had to choose to follow it. Ezra answered the call. He followed the Purrgil.

The thing about Wolfwren to me is that aesthetically there’s something there, right? Sabine is brilliant, expressive, the most colorful person in any room, whereas Shin is bland and washed-out to the point that her lack of color ceases to fade into the background and becomes a statement almost as loud as Sabine’s rainbow armor. Aesthetically, that’s some good shit, some very interesting opposites-attract stuff.
But there’s literally nothing else there. Shin doesn’t have a backstory, or motivations, or even a particularly well-defined personality, and everything about Ashowka!Sabine is just a shitty, pale imitation of Rebels!Sabine who basically doesn’t function as a character without the context of Rebels. So you’re left with only the most surface-level reason to ship these characters, who have exchanged a grand total of like 5 lines, none of which were especially interesting, and everything else is just headcanon. And yet somehow this has become the most popular f/f ship in Star Wars?

I decided to go with Zeb as Muldoon when I realized that meant he and Hera would get to wear cute matching raincoats.

Release the Hounds
Lothwolfwalkers au
Did this instead of starting chapter 14 and it took 500 years and wanted me dead the whole time yeehaw
Anyway, been thinking a lot about that godforsaken show again, and there is exactly one scene I found compelling so I made it cooler and better in my head. Also I find myself wildly obsessed with the idea that Baylan and Shin are Therian wolves. Forget the metaphor they're just straight up wolves. And they've just cornered the person who will set them free, whether they yet realize it or not...
Some ashowka rewrite notes below cut :)
So you know the other thing that made me want to chew my fur out about the show? The fact they set up the whole choose between your loved one or the world trope with Sabine and then didn't deliver on it emotionally at all, and as a plot point it just felt completely brushed over and it was so frustrating to watch.
Like. That decision should have been torture for Sabine. It should have fucked her up. She's already held so much guilt in her life and you want to add more?? Drives me insane that they went that direction and then after episode 4 it felt like she was totally cool and chill with risking the peace that she fought for, that her family died for that Ezra sacrificed himself for, and in the end the outcome was literally just uno-reversing Ezra's sacrifice and everyone was fine with it like come on 💀💀💀
Now I could go into an angry rant tearing it apart in detail, however that is NOT the reason I brought it up. I brought it up to keep talking about Lothwolfwalkers :3
tbh when I watched the show I kinda rolled my eyes when they went for this trope; it was a pretty obvious and uncreative direction to take. But at the same time it was the one point in the show that got me genuinely invested in what happened next (when I tell you I suffered through ep 5 bc I only gave a shit about Sabine and Ezra. And then then the outcome was laaame). But the potential was there and I'm running with it.
Anyway,
My reasoning is that obviously Sabine was always going to choose to surrender the map. Not because she was willing to throw away everything they fought for, but because as long as she got on that ship, there was always a chance at stopping Thrawn once they got there. A small chance yes, but if there's one thing a rebel is accustomed to dealing with it's insurmountable odds. Whereas if she destroyed the map, there was no second chance to get to Ezra. Even if the map didn't matter in the end, Baylan would have killed her if she tried to destroy it. She chose to live and fight another day, and justified that deal to herself with every intent of doing whatever it takes to keep Thrawn in exile. As long she finds Ezra? Together they can accomplish anything.
However, several weeks as prisoner aboard the Sion is enough to wear down her resolve and the looming guilt about what might happen due to her decision tears her apart even though she knows she would make the same choice over and over.
Sabine knows damn well she's risking undoing everything Ezra fought for and while that's bad enough, she's also terrified he's going to hate her for it. Especially when the only plan she has to get out of this is in fact 100% dependent on finding him (the only way to detonate her kyber bomb is to use the Force). How can she finally show up after so long only to ask him to fight again, to fix her mess? She had the strength to let him go all those years ago, but she couldn't do it again. What would he think of her?
But the truth is that Ezra has never stopped fighting Thrawn and Thrawn has never stopped hunting Ezra. He's been fighting alone to wear Thrawn down all these years and it's slowly killing him. And he's suspected Thrawn would find a way back for a long time, with or without the Sion. If it weren't for Sabine coming when she did, he probably wouldn't be around much longer to slow down the enemy...
So when Sabine does find him and, prepared for him to never forgive her, she's like. Hey so. I uh. I fucked up.
Ezra could not give a damn about the thrawn-go-home-machine. If anything it will be the best chance to defeat him for good that Ezra was ever going to get, and now that they're together? Anything is possible.
Sabine still made the gamble not knowing any of that, and she will still hold herself responsible for whatever happens next, is still half convinced Ezra is disappointed in her. But Ezra's just like look man you can beat yourself up as much as you want, I'm just happy you’re here, I missed you so much, I don’t care what it took to get you here, what matters now is that we have a chance.
Maybe you should have left me. But I'm sure as hell glad you didn't.
And if their positions were reversed? I feel Ezra would have made the same choice with the same reasoning. And he will tell her so, and maybe then she will forgive herself.

Thinking about how difficult the events of Jedi Knight must've been from Chopper's perspective.
Hera mentions that Chopper often visited the place where he and their pilot crashed. I imagined he kept waiting for him to wake up and take both of them to the sky again. He'd been both literally and symbolically forced to the ground and no one cared about his existence except this one lone girl who wouldn't keep pestering him about repairs and his name and what was it like to fly.
And when the night sky became clear as day as ships hovered over their horizon, Hera took his hand and dragged him with her. In spite of Cham's probable protests. Time and time again this girl kept coming back for him. Asked relatively little, only that he held her hand while it was so dark you couldn't even see who was next to you. While it was impossible to tell how many hours had gone by, if any.
He will not fail her. He will hurt everyone but not her. He might consider leaving someone, but never her. He's forced to leave her and then see her come back, spirit completely destroyed.
