one of my major flaws as a person is that i will ask you which origins background you're going with but i won't really care unless it's noble human or noble dwarf

Krem week day 2 — Euphoria / Expression
I wanted to capture the euphoria he might have experienced while secretly serving in the Tevinter army. Simultaneously, this could represent the true freedom of expression he may have felt among The Chargers for the first time.
This dialogue between Bull and Cole also comes to mind:
Cole: You and Krem say words that hurt, but they aren't real, The Iron Bull.
Iron Bull: Yes. We give each other grief. It's a soldier thing. Doesn't mean anything.
Cole: It means friendship. And that you're soldiers. Krem likes it, it makes him proud.

I’ve said this before but it really is soooooo good that from the very beginning, Bull makes it extremely clear that he’s in no way shape or form ashamed of Dorian. And for someone whose entire life of sex and romance was furtive and with men who wanted to hide or ignore him in public it really is a wonder for Bull to announced to everyone We Fucked And You Left Your Undies In My Room and I Like That
And Dorian hates it at first because he’s reading it like bull is mocking him or trying to humiliate him but from the very beginning, from day ONE, Bull is making it clear this is not something that needs to be hidden. Not something to be humiliated about. Aaaarghhhh!!!!

on the subject of purple hawke i really think that what’s so interesting about them is that they are not simply trying to be the funnyguy (although that too), but that a lot of the time they just don’t care. this is headcanon territory naturally, but hawke knows that they are still going to end up bleeding and dying for these people and this city, which, to their mind, is of greater value than those niceties. i also think hawke is quite desensitized to violence and tragedy by any point after lothering. hawke can tone it down for their friends sometimes, but they struggle to perceive others’ hurts meaningfully. they care but apply it differently.
there is that line from gamlen about hawke along the lines that “i can’t just shove my grief in the corner like you and never look at it again”, and i think to empathize more with others, to let yourself feel their pain, you need to be more in touch with your own emotions too. that’s how i see it working for hawke at least. i will save your city, but i will not make an effort to comfort you. so purple hawke just has no filter, and making jokes makes them feel better. so they will. hence purple hawke can be outright cruel like “things can always get worse” to the viscount while he is cradling his dead son’s body.
so beyond the surface level i don’t really see rook as following in purple hawke’s footsteps because rook just has that mildly humourous manner of talking. purple hawke, on the other hand, can be vicious as fuck, and this is what gets me

You know, it’s important to have tragic blorbos sometimes because hey, maybe you had a bad day, maybe your job sucks so fucking much. But do you know who had a worse day? Blorbo bleebus, who’s doomed by the narrative
