Spite is curious, you guys.
No, not Curiosity. Spite knows Curiosity. Curiosity has feet and fire and goggles.
The goggles are new to Spite. Seeing things on the physical plane is limiting, so he doesn’t always pay attention to it. But sometimes he gets curious how Lucanis sees things, so he’ll use Lucanis’s eyes. That made him curious how Curiosity sees things, so he asked to borrow the goggles and it was very interesting, and green, until Lucanis woke up.
Then it was chaotic.
Lucanis is very chaotic, and noisy. He objects to the strangest things, like going Outside, and Eating, and Sleeping. Spite was made to understand that these were all things mortals enjoyed doing. That spirit of Normalcy he talked to a while ago must have been pulling his leg.
…his proverbial leg. Spite does not have Feet.
Yes, mortals are turning out to be rather more complicated than Spite thought they were. For instance, in the Ossuary, Spite felt a lot of them die. It wasn’t anything remarkable–not at first–mortals die, it’s what they do. If the residents of the Fade got sad over every time a mortal snuffed it there would be non-stop weeping. Leave that up to the Spirits of Compassion, thank you.
No, Spite didn’t really bother himself with death until he was trapped in the Ossuary with Lucanis and mortals started dying right and left, alongside the spirits.
THAT was disturbing. Suddenly Spite understood the abrupt change in nature when a body of flesh and bone became an Empty vessel. He knows now why it is disturbing to mortalkind.
And he did not want it to happen to Lucanis. That would mean the end of Spite as well.
“Get. Up.” he says to the Crow, who really does not look the way crows were described to him. “You can’t die here, Lucanis. Get up.”
To his surprise the mortal listens with a growl and yanks the dagger out of his side and gets back to his feet. Spite helps as much as he can, lending the fragile mortal his strength. But Lucanis is prickly and has a hard time accepting it.
Spite will keep trying. He is Determined.

I just need everyone to see the expressions he makes in the little ice crystal when he hears Rook's voice for the first time and realizes someone might have finally come for him. You know, for reasons.

I'm so deep in my headcanon that Crows conceptualize themselves as locked into a separate paradigm of personhood in which violence among Crows doesn't count because they're irrevocably Crows first and people second from the moment they become Fledglings.
So deep that sometimes I forget that I thought about that at all because veilguard had Lucanis Dellamorte say "I don't kill children" and then never elaborated

What I love most about Emmrich is the very heart of him: his softness.
He is tender in a world that tells men to be anything but. A gentle soul, kind and thoughtful, with a mind as rich as his heart is open. He honors the living, and he reveres the dead. He is sweet without irony, sentimental without shame. A romantic in the truest, quietest sense. He loves fully, without condition or calculation.
Emmrich wears his heart not just on his sleeve, but in everything he does.
He is an orphan who built a family from the idea of home and a pile of bones, who chose love and warmth when the world gave him none. He is what we’ve been starved of in stories for too long: a male character allowed to be openly affectionate, unguarded, kind. A soft man cast as a love interest, not despite his gentleness, but because of it.
He’s not brooding in a corner, growling threats, or pinning someone to a wall with a smirk and a “kitten.”
He’s knitting a scarf to keep Rook’s neck warm in winter. He’s making tea. He’s listening.
Once more, and this matters: he is soft. He pines, he longs, he yearns, he picks flowers.
And we need more men like him in fiction, because we need more kindness in the world.
