Yesterday, Luc Besson got interviewed about his Dracula film on a show my mum watches, so I had the delight of being told that he said his Dracula film was not the same as the Coppola version because it takes a deeper look into the romance story with Dracula that was in the book.
Now unless the book he read was a novelized version of Coppola’s Dracula, I want to know what book he read or what he was smoking when he read it.
Quickly translated quote: “When you take the original novel, it’s a real love story. But because at the time [of the novel’s release] there wasn’t cinema and special effects and all that, people were more pulled in by the fantasy and sanguine aspects [of Dracula]. So he (Dracula) became a horror movie myth when actually, if we dig into the original novel, it’s a big love story. So I wanted to go back to this man who loses his wife and who sadly is internal because God stops him from dying, and he looks for his wife for 400 years.”
Also apparently Dracula makes perfumes now.
