Jason, as a child, is abused by older kids and trainers at CJ because they need to mould him into the perfect soldier and golden child and only when he is that golden child are they nice to him. Jason hits a certain age and he has proven that everything has worked, that he is the golden statue that everyone needed him to to be and so now he is elevated to a hero-like status. He's walking around New Rome and someone who hurt him as a child is there, bowing to him and calling him the son of Rome and he has to pretend like the last 12 years didn't happen.
