Our flowers haven’t been blooming as much lately but one flower was out the other day.

A couple weeks ago we decided to wake up and get to the beach for the sunrise a few mornings. Not my favorite time of day but it really is beautiful out there as the rises above the horizon.

We went out to the beach today and enjoyed a mostly desolate walk. There was a good bit of wind and clouds offshore, possibly the beginning of some tropical weather headed our way for the weekend? Maybe the last gasp of dying Fiona or some harbinger of what Gaston has in store for us. Either way we could use the rain.

I’ve been busy with other projects and gotten away from all of the pictures I took in Hawaii earlier this year. Here are a series of shots from our trip up to the North Shore on Kauai. It really is a beautiful island.

Fiddling with astrophotography

With the recent brush with the Perseid meteor shower I’ve been keeping my eyes skyward at night. Sadly I only saw one meteor and I didn’t have my camera but it was still cool to see streaking across the sky. It has been interesting to watch the moon waxing over the last several days though. Last night there was some cloud cover after some evening rain that made for interesting views.

Dusk without colors

We got up and out and wandered around as the sun was setting the other night. Riding the bikes over to the beach to capture a couple shots and then a few more on the bike ride home as the last of the evening light faded away. You might have seen a couple shots from this expedition on Instagram already. Here are a few more, stripped of color.

We took our annual trip up to North Georgia a couple weeks ago and were treated to some wonderful weather and great waterfalls. We managed to get in a couple of good hikes including wandering down into Tallulah Gorge one day with all of its awesome steps. We drove around another day and got in some light hiking to Corn Creek Falls in Young Harris, Helton Creek Falls, and Dick’s Creek Falls with a stop at Neel’s Gap along the Appalachian Trail.

Last night was another wonderful night for photos around the house. While walking the brown dog we came across some hydrangeas in bloom got to watch the moon rise over the water and then I set up the tripod for some more pictures of the moon from the backyard.

We wandered up to northern Georgia last week for some family time, R&R, and hiking. Roaming around our camp I was able to find some wildflowers (or maybe weeds depending on your perspective) to photograph.

Dog walking is a great time to get out and take pictures around the house. We enjoy some beautiful sunsets so you might be getting bored of seeing the same trees with different clouds around them.

The moon was pretty interesting last night too and there was enough light yet that I could get this shot without the tripod.

These flowers were blowing around a little bit but I’m a sucker for things in bloom.

  More fun with Nikon Dog walking is a great time to get out and take pictures around the house. We enjoy some beautiful sunsets so you might be getting bored of seeing the same trees with different clouds around them.

I’m making some changes to my camera line up and I added some new glass that I got to play with a little bit last night while we were walking the dogs. I love my Fuji X-E2 and the old and new glass that I can shoot with that body but I’ve been wanting to add a system that is a bit more widely used so I’m a convert to Nikon. I’m pretty happy so far.

Another American holiday has come and gone. The Fourth was nice this year even if it’s location on Monday made it a bit more difficult to celebrate with really appropriate gusto. The sky was beautiful as the sun was setting and the unique light off the clouds caused me to pick up my camera and head outside after dinner and before the main event.
