Now there was a concept that made him snort, the movement almost making him drop the focusing crystal as he picked it up, but he swiped it out of midair, holding it between two fingers as he turned it about to catch the light.
There was an interesting idea. But it was one he couldn’t argue against. Not because he thought she was right, but because he, and by extension the rest of the clones, had never truly been introduced to the concept of parental love. The Mandalorians, Master Ti, they were the only frame of reference for parenthood the young men had ever known.
“We are Mando’ade. No matter what the Kaminoans pretend. We know better. And actually, it was my brothers that came up with my name.”
insubordinate-arc // Nox:
“I am officially required to say none, General.” Came the quick answer to her first question, his facial features unreadable as he looked the bolt over, studying it before he shrugged, pocketing it and popping the casing off of the blaster.
“I suppose all of us would be worse off, being that the GAR wouldn’t exist. Then again, is the selfish wish for our personal lives worth the suffering the war has brought?”
Her wink was met with an eye roll as gloved fingers picked through the innards of the blaster, humming under his breath. It was all so familiar, yet entirely alien at the same time, though he supposed specs for war gear tended to be similar across armies. “They certainly did. Guess they were giving some respect for Fett in that way. Or maybe we were all Fetts children in their eyes. Or maybe they just thought their way was best.”

She smiled at his official answer. Was it selfish to wonder if it was all worth the people who suffered because of the Republic? She’d learned it was rotting from the inside almost two years ago, but she stopped reading and stared at the report instead. She’d never get it finished at this rate, so she set it aside to look at Nox, ,devoting her whole attention to him.
“Maybe spending so much time with you caused them to get attached.” As if she wasn’t speaking from experience. “Plus, from my study of it, the Mandalorian culture isn’t actually a bad way to spend your life.” She turned to the side so she could lean her elbow on the table with a smirk. “Besides, it also implies somebody had to like you a little bit to give you a name, right?” She was teasing him.

“It’s well known that conquest and genocide are only okay when the Republic does it.”
The Commanders voice was strained as he leaned on his hex-wrench, a grunt leaving him as a bolt finally gave, popping into the air and barely caught in the clones gauntlet.
Such an admonishment of the Republic would likely have a clone branded a traitor and slated for the firing squad, but Nox’s political ideologies had never yet interfered with his duties. Alphas were always too open with their opinions.
“I’m relatively certain the concept of clone brotherhood wasn’t an intention in the Kaminoans design. But since it enhanced our combat capability, they encouraged it.”

“We could just not have the Republic, how many lives would be better for it?” Actually she couldn’t count, but she let her eyes drift from her datapad to him, exhaling slowly, “then consider how many would be worse off without it.” Where would she be? Would she be with free roaming Jedi? Or back on Shili still? Only the Force knew, she supposed. “I wouldn’t have you here for these life questioning conversations if the Republic didn’t exist.”
She winked at him before looking back down at the report in her hand that she was originally reading, “and I thought that was thanks to the Mando training sergeants? And no, I don’t think the Kaminoans planned for any of you to form familial bonds. Or they wouldn’t have trained medics to only spend time saving who could be saved quickly.”

“I personally find Mandalore the Ultimate, for all of his terrible war crimes, a pretty decent model for leadership. The Taung in general, really.”
An odd topic of conversation to be having with a Jedi, really. Then again, he and General Tano had numerous unorthodox conversations, many of which revolved around her surprising knowledge of Mandalorian culture.
Though, spending large amounts of time on Kamino with General Ti would probably bestow that kind of knowledge. Regardless of how they got there, the conversation was welcome when trying to disassemble some Commando Droids surprisingly fancy blaster. Damned proprietary Techno-Union hardware made it nigh-impossible to find tools for the task.
“Making your creed based entirely on ideology as opposed to blood or race is genius, something pretty much everyone could learn from in this day and age.”

“While it was and is a good idea, and way to live ones life. That is also likely what led to the destruction of Mandalore’s people.”
Her time on Kamino wasn’t the only reason she’d learned about the culture, she had FRIENDS there, who still talked to her. Which she was very grateful to. It was thanks to Korkie that she could speak as much of the language as she could.. but that was still something she hadn’t told Nox. It was a habit of hers, she knew many languages and pretended to not speak them.
“Found family is a widely accepted concept though.”

I like to imagine that the 602nd has a well-earned reputation for being as frustratingly hard to reign in as they are effective, owing to the fact that Tano is their general and a decent portion of their command staff are Alpha-class.

Is there not some bitter irony in having Mandalorians, descendants of the Taung, enemies of the Battalions of Zhell of ancient Coruscant, training the Republics slave army?
