World War I: For the first time, people saw a direct link between technology and destruction. Before this, technology was seen in terms of its wonders during the industrial revolution. By the end of the war, machine and gun were inextricably linked in the public mind.

And so the computer/information age has a parallel in the industrial revolution, where the artificial intelligence technology is lauded and its development accelerated, based on its supposed improvement of human life. We stand now at the precipice at which humanity willfully chooses to feed the undertow of the tide of an AI armed with human likeness and stuffed with self-commanding agency, where we are approaching a blind turn and unequipped with ethics nor with an integral apprehension of the complexities of human nature.
