Why? Because this was dangerous and reckless. For both of them. James head tipped down anyway, eyes turning to the floor for a moment. Was he wrong to do this? Perhaps. But it felt necessary. To protect Thomas, less than himself.

"Thomas--" The words died on his tongue, ash in his mouth as he stood, hands behind his back like a good Navy officer. What else was he to do. "Lord Hamilton." He corrected himself. "Forgive me." A tilt of his head and he went for the door, barely able to breathe.
