On the subject of the invader zim movie, something I feel has been lost is the original show’s use of limited color palettes, something that was a major inspiration for my own artwork. I always liked how Dib’s original palette was so coherently BLUE and icy. It made his connection to paranormal and unnatural things seem more visually overt whereas the new design is a muddled mess of tan skin red shoes and some splashes of de-saturated blues. He feels like a more generic cartoon protagonist. Same goes for the warm sunny lighting in the dystopian cities we see in the teaser, it’s just less coherent and kind of lessens what made the visual styling of the original show unique.

tired: Zim is an alien and that’s why his skin is green and he talks like that

wired: Dib is an alien and that’s why his head is so big his hair is impossible and he screams so much

What about..

…Zim being able to sense an earth quake or some other natural disaster moments before it happens like many animals can. Just sitting in class and suddenly getting REALLY uneasy but he doesn’t know why~?  He just really wants to run but from what? so it just confuses him, he becomes more and more paranoid, clawing and gripping at his desk, standing straight up and looking towards the windows, listening. Dib notices and interprets the behavior as being exactly what it is and Zim inadvertently ends up saving hundreds of lives. I think about this a lot….
