Big things coming! There are a few new community fridges getting prepared to hit the streets on NYC! We are working with local groups in Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn and hope to have news soon! Louis and @therobynkind after filling the original 133 Van Buren St. fridge in BedStuy with a whole carload of rescue food graciously donated by @gorillasapp.usa. Everyday @gorillasapp and other businesses share excess food and every day volunteers like Robyn are picking those donations and delivering them to community fridges. We had two new volunteers on the cargo bikes delivering groceries and hot meals from Food Not Bombs this week! We are always happy to help people learn on these awesome bikes that allow us to be less dependent on fossil fuel powered cars! We also shared hundreds of delicious vegan meals thanks to @feedthepeople_bedstuy who are always on point! Despite the rain and even when the Community Solidarity van is out of commission, we are sharing free meals and groceries every single Saturday in BedStuy! Two van loads of rescued food driven all the way from Long Island thanks to @communitysolidarity and other contributions by @campfriendship_foodpantry @perelandrabk and @breadandlife! Delicious creamy vegan coconut curry stew and homemade bread by @feedthepeople_bedstuy who create amazing meals at @magickcity. This is in addition to the standard Food Not Bombs beans and anarchist oatmeal cookies. Joe worked extra hard this week making sure that all the home deliveries were made, despite us be shorthanded on cargo bike volunteers. Get involved! Only good vibes and good healthy food at today’s weekly BedStuy Food Not Bombs community food share! Today we had a huge number of new people come through to pickup vegetarian groceries and hot vegan meals! Thanks to @communitysolidarity for pulling up with two van loads of rescued food! Their efforts and organizing is essential to this share happening every week and they organize even larger and more regular events in Long Island. We also had fresh produce in groceries provided by @campfriendship_foodpantry @breadandlife @greenehillfoodcoop and @perelandrabk. For the past year @feedthepeople_bedstuy has been working their magic at @magickcity to craft delicious meals such as this dahl over rice! They deliver hundred of meals we share from they park because not everyone has the skills or a place to cook. These meals are shared in addition to the standard Food Not Bombs, chili, lentils, and black-eyed-peas dishes that been a staple of the BedStuy share for well over a decade. Cargo bikers helped deliver boxes to our homebound community members. All are welcome to join us in Von King Park at the corner of Lafayette and Marcy each Saturday at 3pm. Sharing food with others is one of our favorite things to do! Thanks to @communitysolidarity we had even more than usual to give away this Saturday! Community Solidarity rescued approximately 13,000 pounds of healthy vegetarian groceries for the people of BedStuy just today. Community Solidarity is crucial to this share being able to support as many people as show up each week. Thanks to the hardworking gourmands of @feedthepeople_bedstuy we also had delicious and lovingly crafted vegan rainbow spring vegetable mushroom and white bean stew and home baked breads. Not everyone has access to a kitchen and very few people have the ability to cook (at this level) so we are grateful to be able to help distribute meals along with groceries. As always cargo bikers were on hand to deliver shares to those in our community who are unable to be in the park with us. For the third day in a row we’ve organized the rescue of more than 3,000 pounds of food that would otherwise have gone to waste. This food made it into community fridges thanks to @breadandlife @lucylaser @bettypz0 @mallicent @fenixcommunityfridge @smallthingsgrowhomebirth @ebenkensho, Rabbi David and many more!
