Punctuating Dialogue
✧
➸ “This is a sentence.”
➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.
➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”
➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”
➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”
➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”
➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.
“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.
“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”
➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”
➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”
However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!
➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.
If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)
➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“
“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.
➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.
➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”
➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.
“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”
➸ “If it’s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.
“This shows it’s the same character continuing to speak.”

I just discovered foodtimeline.org, which is exactly what it sounds like: centuries worth of information about FOOD. If you are writing something historical and you want a starting point for figuring out what people should be eating, this might be a good place?

writing tip: searching "[place of origin]ish names" will get you a lot of stuff and nonsense made up by baby bloggers.
searching "[place] census [year]" will get you lists of real names of real people who lived in that place.

I uploaded the old versions of IO project in itch.io!!
I made the first drafts for IO project in twine, as that was the program I was going with. Im not working on them anymore, but I did put too much time into them to abandon them completely. I uploaded them for y'all to see what i've doing on itch.io!! we'll see how and when the finished project turns out :).

Welcome to my blog!
This will be centered around my renpy game, IO project, and its development. You play as a young boy named IO, as he tries to cope with his past while going forward in his future.
IO has three days before attending school. He lives with his stepsister, Oliva, and everyday he has to figure ouyt what to do with himself as he navigates his new world in Oliva's aprtment.
When he's asleep.... is when he starts seeing past events that lead him to where he is now, as he tries to figure out what actually happened with his best friend, and who she truly was.
it would say it has some weirdcore/dreamcore aesthetics, (not the center point of the game im not basing the plot of those ideas. just. the vibe. sometimes.) with horror elements.
there is a content warning for blood, death, disability and child abuse in the game. will be more descriptive when i write those parts into the game, but it will exist.
thank you for reading and whatnot, and i hope to see you soon!

Okay, so, by now i have been working on io project for an entire year.
have i made much progress?
no.
I'm not working on it in twine anymore, and have switched to renpy. i found that i work with renpy much better, and will probs lead to a better result. i can not code for the shit of me i hate code bleeeehhhhhh
so since renpy is a visual novel thing that has the hardest part of the code worked out for me is great. and its more visual (or at least easier to make it visual) it's just easier for me to use and plays on my strengths more.
and im still using plot points and lines from thw twine things so. yehah. and also some images ive drawn that were to be in the twine game are being reused, even though ill end up drawing more. ughghghghhhh
im not working w/ twine for io project anymore.
anyway. here are some of the sprites for the fuck ass shit game that sucks. i just want to make it to prove that i can but like i dont have to prove anything to anyone fuck you. but i wanna make it. ill see.
support really helps!! i mean if you see this and you like it tell me you want to see me make it! please. pleasre please please

i resigned the characters so the images previously posted probalty won't be used in the game, but from now on I will use these images like this one and the posts I will post after. If that makes any kind of sense.
