i noticed something while i was rewatching season three.

first i’m gonna show a couple screencaps from the show and then i’ll explain/analyze.

vs

mikes reaction to being yelled at in these two scenes is completely different.

in the scene with mike and el, el is breaking up with mike. as you can see, mike’s expression looks completely disgusted and almost as if it were meant to be comedic relief. the whole scene seems to act as some sort of comedic relief, in fact. the atmosphere is a little more lighthearted than the atmosphere for most break up scenes would be.

in the scene with mike and will, will is also upset with mike, but his expression doesn’t look disgusted or like it was meant for comedic relief, he looks genuinely hurt. the atmosphere here isn’t lighthearted in the slightest.

BONUS!

when el and mike break up, he doesn’t even attempt to fight for the relationship. he doesn’t run after her, he doesn’t try to talk to her about it, he just leaves it alone.

but when mike will and mike are having a conflict, mike runs after him. mike tries to reason with him. when will bikes off, MIKE BIKES ACROSS TOWN IN THE POURING RAIN TO APOLOGIZE TO HIM AND MAKE SURE HE’S OKAY.

(i’d also like to bring up the “you can’t leave it’s raining” line because it’s so wholesome and i love how gentle he is with him).
