something I don’t see people bring up a lot when talking about worldbuilding, especially when you’re creating cities, is wind. prevailing winds in many places in the northern hemisphere blow from west -> east, and because industrial production tended to take place in the centre of cities, workers would live downwind of factories while the wealthier classes would live on the other side, away from air pollutants, which is why a lot of cities have a poor east-end and a rich west-end, a spatial configuration that persists in many places that are now post-industrial

and in general the built environment has a durability to it that persists far past the historical moments that produce those configurations. this means that the stated aims of a city via a vis city planning are frequently at odds with the physical layout of the city itself. so if you want to create a city that feels like it has a long history to it, working through its earlier stages of production can help with decisions you make about its layout, and also allow for weird spatial contradictions in a city that has to constantly fight against its own physical history

we've talked about jealous eddie, and pining eddie, and afraid-he's-actually-a-homophobe eddie, but i think there's another element we need to explore and that's supportive eddie. because here's eddie diaz having just found out that the reason his best friend has been so weird lately is that he's going through this major revelation and it's all new and he's so excited and a little nervous, and buck needs his best friend to have his back as he explores these new feelings.

and eddie genuinely likes tommy, he was the one who wanted them to get on well! so even if it makes his chest tighten to see them brushing shoulders and holding hands and kissing he absolutely does not have time to unpack that feeling especially if it could in any way derail this thing buck is going through.

and eddie knows buck like no one else, he knows how buck's struggled with feeling rejected and like he's never anyone's first choice. but here's tommy, and he's cool and nice and adventurous and loyal and buck gets all giggly at the prospect of being with him, and that's exactly the kind of relationship that buck deserves to have, one that makes him feel seen and chosen, and this isn't like with his past girlfriends where eddie could be snide and tease and try to help him see how wrong of a fit they are for him, that kind of behavior could really hurt buck here, so eddie is determined that he is not going to ruin this for buck, no matter what, because this isn't about eddie and the weird flutter he gets when he thinks of another man with buck and what it must be like to get to hold him and kiss him.

Okay but I want bobby to be embarrassingly supportive of buck. Like I want to watch that man put his whole entire soul into supporting his bisexual son to the point that’s he’s almost overdoing it. Just full “it feels like you googled how to talk about this,” energy.

Just buck, whose childhood was defined by the absence of effort, who had to literally hurt himself to get any kind of attention from his parents, getting to experience a parental figure put every ounce of effort he has into showing him he’s loved and supported.

You know what I want? I want Eddie (freshly after a break up with Marisol maybe??) talking about what he wants in a partner at a 118 fam gathering, just going on and on about what he wants in a partner and what he needs his partner to be for Chris, etc etc

And Tommy, who is still dating Buck, doesn't hear the beginning of the conversation and just strides in like, "We talking about Buck? I like talking about Buck. Let me talk about Buck."

And then boom, Eddie realizations era

im loving the fact that tommy is an established character with established relationships with the 118, just like karen, just like athena, just like maddie, because that was a huge thing that made it a part of why i think it was so hard to like bucks previous love interests.

like, yes. abby and taylor tried to gel with them, ali kinda knew OF them, but natalia was completely seperate and lucy wasnt even really a love interest. neither of the main 2 (abby and taylor) actually had any link to anyone other than buck. taylor was the closest (but she fucked that up badly lmao).

im so hyped to see whether we get more of tommy and the 118, because he has history with all of them, except eddie (who he's now good friends with), and buck (who he is now dating).

if you look at all the other 'partners', they are all a part of the 118 family, and pretty linked together: athena is besties with hen and married to bobby, karen lived across from and was good friends with chimney and is now married to hen, maddie is bucks brother and is married to chimney, etc.

i feel like bucks other love interests were only ever linked to him, and he always worried about losing them, because he didnt think he was good enough.

but this time with tommy the difference is (tommy actually cares about buck) that hes known by his family and hes safe and hes confident and caring and patient, plus the rest of the 118 all think hes a good guy, and also tommy saved bathena and chimney and hes friends with eddie, and christopher likes him, etc.

everybody that matters to buck, except maddie, likes and knows tommy.

(and who is he going to introduce tommy to next episode? maddie.)

maybe buck doesnt have to worry so much about him leaving, like abby did, or worry how to introduce tommy to his family and not have him run for the hills from the complex parts of his life, like natalia or ali did

because tommys already halfway in it yknow?

Morning bucktommy nation !!!!! I found my favourite brush this time. Could not wait for Buck initiate his first kiss and I can draw so.... 1+1=2? Just thought off a fun idea when Evan can finally be the person to shut the old yapper for once.
