Why do you never draw bottom Cas? You're the artist, so it's not a request. I'm just genuinely curious why top Dean is so frowned upon in fic and fanart. And even on Twitter, where sth even jokingly bottom Cas related gets commented by a "It should be the other way around." To me, it's so weird. Almost every real gay couple switches. Btw, your art is gorgeous.

Okay, so, I think, the quick and dirty answer to the “typical fandom preference” is mainly due to the canonic depictions of our two aforementioned characters.

We have,

1. Dean "doesn’t mind a little man-handling" Winchester, and

2.  Cas-"the dom!brow"-stiel.

Since this is how the characters are depicted within multiple intimate partner interactions on the show, I think it’s kinda easy to slide the puzzle pieces together on that one and say Character A is a (insert here), and Character B is an (insert here).

But I think you’re right. It’s important to point out that those are flat generalizations of the characters, and people aren’t like that. People are complicated, multifaceted individuals, and characters--good characters--should be the same. Stereotyping is not only unhelpful, but unhealthy. It serves to do nothing more than erase that complex, beautiful person beneath it. It’s for this reason, I've personally always been an ardent supporter of "team switch"-- or, if you’d rather: an open interpretation of possible relationship dynamics. 

Although I can’t deny I too have a bias, I have made it a point to draw them--and write them--both ways, ever since I first settled my ass into this dumpster, with, more notably, the bulk of my art depicting them them intentionally ambiguously.

So, my dear friend, I now have a question for you. Are there any possible personal biases you’re bringing to my art that makes you only see top Cas? :)

Me: Omg I’m actually so glad you asked!! it’s best friends that grow up together in a small closed minded town during a more homophobic time period that are both in love with each other but neither of them ever say anything bc of internalized homophobia which eventually leads to them being distanced from each other in some way but they care for each other so much and go through traumatizing experiences together and are each other’s safe space and one of them is played by Finn Wolfhard :)

Suptober 2020 day 29: Fragile!
