What are your favorite Leopold/Loeb fictional adaptations, if you don't mind me asking?

Much less well versed in leopold and loeb than you are - so I agree with you that the "big three" of Scream, Funny Games and Rope are the best.

A favourite of those is hard to pick... I have the most affection for Scream and how it's written, but objectively I think Rope is the best. One of hitchcocks best in my opinion!

I've only just started to delve a bit deeper into the novel adaptations because of your blog! Starting with jazzed which is looking really interesting so far!!!

BUT if we are to bend the question to be less "things directly inspired by leopold and loeb" and things matching the 'archetype' I would propose a different answer...

Then I would make an argument for Hannibal the TV show should fall into the category. I've never heard that the creators were inspired by leopold and loeb but it fits really well (probably inspired by Rope) - hannibal considers himself superior to everyone, and thats what justifies his killings. Both him and Will are highly intelligent and (by the end) highly sadistic their murders. Also they both have a very deep connection, so to speak 😅

leopold and loeb are such a fascinating true crime story honestly. Made even more so by how much they inspire long after their deaths.

why is explaining a villains sad backstory always taken as an effort toward excusing their actions. why does the conversation need to involve the question of excusing anything rather than just making their present behavior way more interesting by complicating their feelings or their motivations. why is acknowledging complicated feelings or motivations taken as apologism in and of itself. why is everyone so incredibly boring
