Photo collages of the tour
Photo collages of the tour
I’ve been wanting to learn how to use Photoshop so I bought a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 and spent some figuring out how to use the tools for blending photos together. All three of these collages were created on a 16:9 ratio canvas that is 26.667″ wide by 15″ high.  At 300 dpi this makes each JPG file 8000 x 4500 pixels.  The 16:9 ratio was used because that is a common “widescreen”…

I finally found a good piece of software that can take full resolution snapshots from the HD videos.  VLC media player is a popular tool for view photos and videos.  It has a function that generates images using the full resolution of the video.
The videos contain lots of swings and golf shots and views of the courses.  I’ve captured 128 snapshots and uploaded them to an album on our Flickr photo sharing website.
Click here:  Snapshots from HD Videos
Here is a sampling of some of these snapshots…

Round 9 was the final round of the tour and played for the second day in a row at the spectacular Old Head Golf Links.
The weather was poor.  The wind was blowing all day and the rain started by the second hole and did not let up.  If the Round 3 at Doonbeg was a 10 on a scale of 10 for the worst weather any of us had every played in then Round 9 at Old Head was a solid 8 out of 10.  To play Old Head along the cliffs on a good day is a challenge.  But to play it with the wind up and the rain coming at you sideways was quite an experience.
The Low Net winner of the day and the overall winner of the Shamrock Cup was MikeL.

The first of two rounds at Old Head Golf Links did not disappoint.  The weather was exceptionally good.  Warm with light winds on a very intimidating golf course with several holes running alongside cliffs that are 200 to 400 ft high.  What an amazing place to build a golf course.
The low net winners of the day were AG and Gord tied at 75 with 3 others following close behind at 76.
Lots of video from the round because of the dramatic views all around the golf course.  The holes 2, 3, 4, 7, 12, 13, 15, 16, and 17 are all played along the cliffs.  Amazing…
Round 8 – Old Head Golf Links The first of two rounds at Old Head Golf Links did not disappoint.  The weather was exceptionally good.

Round 7 took us to the Waterville Golf Links in the village of Waterville on the southwest tip of Ireland.  The town is located on the popular sightseeing route known as the Ring of Kerry.  The scenery was excellent with mountains and the ocean.
The Waterville Golf Links is consistently rated one of the best courses in all of Ireland and the world.  It is a classic links built on piece of land surrounded by water on three sides.  There are no dramatic sand dunes like the other courses however this was a great test of golf with four beautiful finishing holes along the water.
After the round over a pint in the clubhouse we met the owner, an American, who spends half his year in Waterville.  The clubhouse walls were covered in many pictures of famous professional golfers who made the trip to Waterville over the years.  A statue of Payne Stewart is located near the 9th and 18th greens.
The game for the day was Flags.  Each player received 80% of their handicap added on top of the par 72 for the course and when that last shot finished you plant the flag in the ground.  As in previous Flag games most of the flags are planted on the 16th or 17th hole.  But on this day Doug made it all the way into the clubhouse with his flag after a tour best 77.  Well done Doug!

The Tralee Golf Club jumped to the top of the list of favourite course on the tour for many of the guys.  A combination of great weather, beautiful views from everywhere on the course, a front 9 of excellent links holes along the shoreline and a back 9 of dramatic holes through the dunes made this a highlight of the trip.
Some highlights from Tralee Golf Club…
Round 6 at Tralee was also the continuation of the Loudmouth Golf Waist Management Team Championship.  The first round was back at Lahinch but due to poor weather most of the guys were covered in rain gear all day.  So Tralee was chosen to be the 2nd round.  The winning team was Team Tiger with a best ball net score of 140 (73+67).  Jumping into second place from fourth was Team Shamrock at 141 (77+64).
Round 6 – Tralee Golf Club The Tralee Golf Club jumped to the top of the list of favourite course on the tour for many of the guys.

The Ballybunion Golf Club was founded in 1893 and the Old Course was expanded to its current 18 holes in 1927.  It is often ranked in the top 10 courses in the world.  The holes 7 to 18 wind their way through the dunes.  Tom Watson first came to Ballybunion in 1981 and has returned many times.  The walls inside the clubhouse are covered with old pictures of past visitors and champions.  More than any other course visited so far the Ballybunion Golf Club has that old style club feel with members and guests playing together at a beautiful course.
Some highlights from today’s round…

Compared to the day before the weather for the second round at Doonbeg was fantastic.  Partly cloudy, some sunshine and light winds.  No rain.  No rain suites or rain gloves necessary.
Day 2 of the Ryder Cup was for the 8 singles matches.  The results of each match are shown below, but overall the winners were Team Miller over Team Palmer for bragging rights out at their cottages next summer.
In the evening an excellent dinner was also had in the little village of Doonbeg.  Some video and picture highlights from the round showing the beautiful weather and the stunning clubhouse at Trump International Resort Ireland at Doonbeg.
Round 4 – Doonbeg – Ryder Cup Singles Matches Compared to the day before the weather for the second round at Doonbeg was fantastic.  Partly cloudy, some sunshine and light winds.

The first day at the Trump International Doonbeg Golf Club was the WORST weather that nearly everyone on the tour had ever played in.  The rain never let up all day and the wind was at steady 40-50km/hr with gusts to 70km or above.  Going out on the front 9 the wind was left-to-right crosswind and coming back in on the back 9, right-to-left.  BRUTAL!!
This was the first day of the Ryder Cup between Team Miller and Team Palmer:
Team Miller:  Andrew, Pete, Doug, MikeG, DaveT, Q, JJ, MikeC
Team Palmer:  Steve, AG, DaveH, Jamie, MikeM, Sean, MikeL, Gord
The Fourball matches ended with 2.5 points to Team Miller and 1.5 points for Team Palmer.
