also, like i've said before i would never want squadmate approval in mass effect and from a gameplay standpoint i am SO glad mass effect doesn't have that mechanic because having to keep a wiki page open every time you have a conversation in-game is straight-up the worst part of playing dragon age. but also i do feel like from a character development standpoint it's a bit of a missed opportunity. i want to know what random inconsequential bullshit thane would approve and disapprove of me saying.

one thing i do appreciate about dragon age over mass effect is that in dragon age sometimes your companions will actually leave you or even try to kill you if you do enough heinous shit. i feel like it gives them a bit more depth and agency as characters. it doesn't feel Correct that everyone in mass effect mostly just follows shepard no matter what, with only a couple of exceptions

it does sort of feel like loving irikah is a kind of redemption for myself re: all the fictional women i hated with a passion when i was younger because they were the canon love interests of men i selfshipped with. like i would fixate on these women almost as much as their boyfriends/husbands, but i couldn't recognize at the time that it wasn't actually hatred and was probably something not so different from what i felt for the men. meeting my past self and they're like "who are you" and i'm like "i'm you but i'm a man now but also more relevant to this tumblr post i am openly bisexual and selfship with canon f/m couples instead of being Weird about the woman online because i can't recognize that i'm attracted to her"
