Psychoanalysis/hc on Flippy/Fliqpy

Flippy has DID which stands for Dissociation Identity Disorder, precociously known as Split Personality Disorder or Multiple Personality Disorder. That much is clear during the show, though could easier be mixed up with PTSD considering he is an ex-military boi. I would agree if it wasnt for they fact they named SharpTeethedBoi™ Fliqpy; this brings out to us that Fliqpy is a completely ‘different person’.

How is DID caused?

DID is caused by extensive, repetitive abuse and/or trauma. Alright. He’s a soldier, that makes sense, right? Yeees and no. DID is most commonly in children, its the child’s way of coping with trauma, by creating a separate ‘Personality’ in themselves to defend themselves, often forgetting abuse they go through, and the most common symptom is memory loss when the other personality (Fliqpy) is in control, which is seen through his confusion when he 'takes control.’ This can be handled, and you can start to remember these memories through therapy and hypnosis, which is exactly what Lumpy (badly) carries out, and he clearly remembers his episodes and starts to hallucinate Fliqpy in an internal battle, hallucinations being a common symptom in DID, although usually auditory.

PTSD happens more frequently in adults than children, which beings me to the next point: Did Fliqpy from before OR during the war? One possibility is that he was fighting from a very young age in the war, younger than puberty, to fight in such an event. This would have a similar effect upon him, Fliqpy forming to protect him from danger in the war and be a purely survival instinct. This explains a reason as to why his symptoms are more commonly associated with PTSD, such as the popping if a balloon (like a bullet), and Fliqpy pulls into action to protect Flippy, killing those around them as nessersary.

The second (and more common) reason Fliqpy is there is because he formed before the war: Its possible that he had an abusive childhood with family or friends, or even sexual, as that is a frequent cause. The shooting of a bullet, the pop of a balloon, can be easily be associated with being hit or slapped. Then, if this were true, are his abusers dead? Did Fliqpy kill them? Either way, as we know, whatever happened before the war led him to going to war. Perhaps it was Fliqpy’s idea if we went with this idea: Maybe to sate his anger, he sought out military activity, the sound of being hit or slap being more associated with bullets, explosions, as the trauma only grew. This made Fliqpy worse and worse, forcing even a single pop of a balloon for him to spring into action and protect himself, and Flippy.

How about Flippy drowning and struggling, and Splendid is trying to help him out? But then he goes too far and just accepts that he will die. So when he actually gets help, he's shocked and mad at Splendid for not being there for him.

Flippy / Fliqpy Headcannons

Flippy :

• Flippy was born and in Happy Treeville and has known of the curse his whole life

• Flippy enlisted in the army at a young age, fudging his detail to get in at around age 16

• He had believed that he could use living with the curse to his advantage in the army, being used to the constant accidents and waking up fine the next day

• That was quickly dashed in active combat where the permanency of death the rest of the world faced set in

• When he first got back from the war, Flippy was very lost and lonely

• It's gotten better for him over time, but he still has days he can't hide that pain behind a smile and friendly attitude

• Flippy has taken up knitting as a hobby and stress reliever, one of his favorite things to knit are sweaters

• If he's going to be in one place for a while he'll normally bring some of his supplies along

• He gets really happy seeing friends and loved ones wearing the sweaters he's gifted them

• He genuinely wants to be around people but after being made aware of his alter-ego Flippy can't help but worry about others getting hurt or distancing themselves from him out of fear

Fliqpy :

• Came to be as a defensive mechanism responding to fight-or-flight situations durring active duty

• On top of having a drasticly different outward demeanor, very little gets committed to memory in this state, at least originally

• When experiencing a flashback he is under the delusion of being back at war fighting enemy soldiers

• He still adheres to some morals as he won't intentionally kill children or anyone that is obviously impaired or defenseless (i.e. Handy, or Flakey durring an allergic reaction)

• He has been gaining more self-awareness and becoming a true identity rather than just a defense mechanism for survival

- • He is much more abrasive, closed off, and short tempted then Flippy, but still has feelings of loneliness and believing he doesn't deserve anything "good"

- • Clear from flashback induced delusions, He isn't as hostile towards others. He'll still hurt anyone that gets in his way with little remorse but he won't eliminate everyone in a room
