Daris had never said the words I love you as much as he did since he met Iroca. It was a shock to him, but he loved him, and he knew that people needed to hear it. “ I find that hard to believe, but you do tend to push people away. In my case I wouldn’t like a person too needy, which is why you are perfect to me.” He smiled softly when their hands joined, guiding him out of the restaurant. “ Your home or mine?”

Iroca nodded. He knew himself, knew the distance he tended to place between himself and others. “Most people annoy me,” he shrugged. Dealing with them on an as-needed basis was the best method he had found to keep himself from going insane. Having Daris, someone who was, if he thought about it, just the right amount of affectionate, was extremely lucky. Why had he ever let the other man go? “Mine is a short distance from here if that’s suitable.”

“ Can you blame me? I love you with all my heart. I think I should tell you and show you as often as I can. Plus it will let other know that you aren’t on the market.” Daris might have trouble with showing a lot of affection in public but he wasn’t above letting people know that Iroca was his. “ Not cheating, just good reflexes.” He chuckled as he stood up. “ After you.”

Hearing Daris say he loved him was a comfort. Not many had said so in his life and Iroca knew it was partially his own fault. Being a rather cold person in general, he was not exactly the type to go for warm hugs or affection. However, Daris could bring both out of him. “You needn’t worry about that. I’m hardly in demand.” Collecting the boxed food, he pushed his chair in then moved toward the door, but paused for a moment, to slip his hand into the shifter’s.

“ Don’t say that too loudly. I don’t want everyone to know.” He whispered. “ But I am a huge sap for you.” Daris was a sap and he was proud of the fact that he was in love with Iroca. The kiss caused him to grin, capturing his lips in a quick kiss before he could full pull away. “ Yes that should tie me over.”

“You are making that obvious on your own,” the witch shrugged. He knew no one would likely believe him if he were to say anything about how affectionate the shifter was and he felt a small sense of pride in that. Iroca was the only one to see Daris this way. “Cheat,” he replied just as the boxed food returned. “Are you ready to go?”

“ Sleep is the second most important thing in my life, after you, of course.” He smiled. Daris wished he could sleep all the time, he would prefer it to work, or anything else. He could sleep for days at a time if he was allowed. “ I’ve been restraining myself since I walked into the library tonight. I think I should at least get a kiss. A small one.” 

“You are a sap,” Iroca huffed, although there was no anger in his words. Sleep and food were distractions and he would much prefer to keep working at all times rather than have to deal with basic biological needs. However, he also knew taking breaks was important, even if he did not listen to that advice often. Turning in his seat, he gave Daris a small, quick kiss on his jaw. “Will that satisfy you for at least a few minutes?”

If there was ever a time in his long life where he was happy with dying it would be in this moment. The look he was receiving from Iroca, the way he covered his mouth made him look breathtaking to him if that wa the last thing he could ever see he would be fine with it. “ You know me, never one to put much effort into things I considered pointless, plus I need my sleep.” He was extremely grumpy without enough sleep. He slid him his seat, next to the witch. “ I can’t wait to make up for lost time.” He said pressing a kiss to the side of his face.

“Sleep is necessary if nothing else.” Iroca tended to be up early and awake late. To him, sleep was entered into on an as needed basis and engaged in for as little time as possible. However, he remembered seeing Daris sleep, how peaceful he looked, and loved it. The witch could watch him for hours. His eyes widened by a fraction when the shifter moved closer to him, although he was hardly surprised when he was kissed. After so long apart, he could hardly blame Daris for wanting to be close. “Very sweet. At least restrain yourself until we arrive home.”

He chuckled, “ I disappoint people all the time. Not showing up to meetings, not going on a date or sleeping with someone that wants me to. People that mean little to me, get disappointed. Everyone else knows what to expect from me.” He was an open book most of the time, people knew he liked his space, food, and sleeping, and it was dangerous to mess with him when he needed one of those. “ Then I will stay as long as you want me to.”

Iroca placed a hand over his mouth to stifle the slight chuckle threatening to come out. “A shining example of responsibility,” he sighed, stopping their waiter and asking for the food to be boxed up. Knowing Daris, Iroca could completely see the other disappointing those who held no importance and yet that was simply how the shifter was. The freedom in action was something Iroca admired. Sometimes he felt witches as too much structure. Then again, he liked things to have an order and time. “Perfect. Now, once the waiter returns, I expect the both of us to make up for lost time.”

“Thank you. The only way for things to be different this time is if we talk to each other, keep each other in the loop about our feelings, and wants.” Daris was determined to make things work this time. He made up his mind and his heart. He wanted just him and no one else. “ I promise to not disappoint you, you can rest assured I’ve never disappointed in that way.” He might not have had a lot of sexual partners but that didn’t mean he didn’t have a lot of sex, and would see he was good. “We don’t have to if it makes you uncomfortable. We can have sex and I can go home after.”

Daris was right and Iroca knew it. Lack of communication, real and honest communication, had destroyed their previous attempt at a relationship. That was not going to happen again. A slight smile pulled at one side of his face. “So you disappoint in other ways?” he teased, keeping his tone as light as he could, although the words still held their usual flat quality. Shaking his head, he ran a hand through his hair just as their food arrived. “I would like you to stay if possible.” His own work had a regular schedule, but he wasn’t sure about Daris’s.

“ And please let me know if I am overcrowding you, making you uncomfortable. I don’t want to drive you away again.” Iroca was trying and Daris appreciated more than he could ever tell him, but he needed to work on his part as well. Not try to force himself into his space all the time.  “ I think I’ve waited long enough to have you under me again, but we can wait a bit longer, just know it is going to be a very long night. And I will want to cuddle after.”

The witch raised a brow. He hadn’t expected such a thing to be said outright. “I will,” he replied after a moment. More often than not, he was convinced it was his own deficiency in emotional response that caused problems and he needed to catch up to others. Having Daris say to tell him if things were becoming crowded as wonderful reassurance. “I would be disappointed if the night was short.” His head tilted toward the other side of the restaurant as he searched for their food. Cuddling was...odd. The deed was done. What more was there? He finally nodded. “We can cuddle.”

“ You’re welcome. I am happy that you are trying, you know. And I know you don’t like me pointing it out, but I missed you an insane amount and coming in today, I didn’t except this to happen, but I’m glad you are giving me a second chance.” Daris thought their encounter would end in a fight and more heartache not dinner and a make up. “ But to your boyfriend? Harsh. I would never.” He groaned leaning across the table. “ We could always leave and I will fuck you, or maybe go to the bathroom, for a few moments.” 

Iroca nodded. Hearing that he was doing all of his ‘correctly’ was rather comforting. Without direction, he was certain he was going to become lost again and return to familiar patterns, the same ones that had ended their relationship in the first place. “I did not expect this either.” When Daris had arrived, Iroca had been sure his night would end in a headache rather than a date. “I’ll keep that in mind.” The bathroom? No. There was too much of a chance of being caught and considering he wasn’t much interested in kissing in public, a full production was hardly going to happen. “You don’t want to wait for the food?” They could at least get it to go.

‘ I’m beyond blew away by it.” He said half joking. He loved anything that iroca did. All he wanted their whole relationship was there bare minimum from him and now he was getting something and he felt beyond lucky. “ So violent, babe, no need to jab me. I won’t be sappy for the rest of the night.” He promised. “ Yes you should.”

“Thank you,” he replied softly. Flirting, affection, romance, all of it was so new to him and needed so much more emotional output than he was used to giving. Being with Daris was enough of an incentive for him to keep pushing himself. Before, he had not been comfortable or willing to do so and it had destroyed everything. Now, he had a rare second chance. “In this city, violence is the only answer at times.” Raising a brow, he leaned forward to stare directly at Daris. “I want you to fuck me. Was that explicit enough?”

“ You just know how to make a man feel special don’t you?” He teased, but he knew that was probably a lot for him and it did mean a lot to him that, Iroca would willingly spent his time with him, willingly love him. “ I hope it doesn’t as well. I’ve lived a very long life, and I’ve never been happier than I am now.” He said truthfully.  “ I don’t think that is something I would forget, why is this your way of asking me to have my way with you tonight?”

“I do my best.” His words were a bit of a sarcastic drawl, but he did mean what he said, at least when it came to Daris. The witch wanted the other to feel special, wanted. He had done so badly before and had a good deal of ground to make up. “If you continue to be sappy, I will have to start jabbing you in the side.” Even as he said this, he was smiling only slightly. “It is. Should I have been more explicit?”

“ You find me interesting? Well, that is a relief, it would be a pity and a waste of time if we weren’t interested in each other, or wanted to spend any time together.” He never understood why people cheated if you were no longer into a person or your relationship then leave, tell them and end things. He loved everything about Iroca, he couldn’t see himself getting tired of him. “ I was a lot like I am now, minding my business, my home was away from people, peaceful. I was an animal more than I was a man.”

“There are very few people who hold my attention. If I found you uninteresting, I would not be sitting here.” Was that perhaps too blunt? Maybe, but he hardly cared. What was the point of softening anything? “I hope that point never comes.” The witch truly wanted them to stay together this time. If they both worked on what they needed to, then things should be okay. “For your sake, I’m going to refrain from making a joke about how much of an animal you are now, if you still know your way around another man’s body.”

“ I find you more than entertaining. Everything about your interest and intrigues me.” Daris remember the first time he saw him, he was taken back by his looks and his attitude and wanted to get to know him more, so he came around more and next thing he knew he always wanted to see him, hear him speak. He smiled, happy to know he was making his happy. “ The world could always do with improvement, it’s just the way things are. Before coming here, things were almost perfect to me.”

“Then we have something in common,” he hummed, “because I find you rather interesting also. It would be such a pity if we did not want to be around one another.” People in relationships should want to be close or what was the point? Iroca knew he was less ‘touchy’ than most, but that didn’t mean he wanted to be far away from Daris. How else would he be able to see the man smile? Hear him talk? Watch the way his hands moved? “Would you care to elaborate on that before our food arrives and takes all of the attention?”

“ You being out of practice makes it all the more enjoyable. You have a very unique way of flirting and I doubt anyone else would be able to fully appreciate like I do. It’s endeaving to me.” He explained. He had it bad for the witch, just about everything he did was endearing to him. “ You make me happy. Are you happy?” He asked, that’s all he wanted was for him to be as happy as he was.

The witch coughed. Being out of practice with flirting almost meant that he was completely unused to hearing it from others. Ever since their break up, he had not been close to many other people and flirting was out of the question. “I’m glad you find me so entertaining,” he stated, failing to keep the slight color off of his face despite his flat tone. The question came as a bit of a surprise and he blinked, staring back at Daris. “In the sense of being here with you? Yes, I am quite happy. In terms of the overall state of the world, that could do with some improvement.”

Daris grinned, “ I will surprise you and I promise you will love it.” Daris wasn’t a romantic person normally, he couldn’t think of a time where he cared enough to put offer into something like that, only when it involved Iroca did he care or try. He was already thinking of something a little over the top and romantic to do for the witch. “ I love it when you flirt with me.” He teased. 

Being mentally prepared for a surprise was going to be an interesting task. He nodded, trying to think of what the shifter was going to do. However, he also trusted him not to knowingly do anything he wouldn’t enjoy. Romance was out of his depth and he was determined to learn the intricacies of it, only for Daris. “I’m glad you enjoy it. Hopefully the fact that I am completely out of practice isn’t hurting the experience.” He looked away for a moment. “Seeing you happy is wonderful.”

To most people it would be an issue for their partner to be so formal about things, but to him it was just Iroca, his odd and endearing boyfriend. “ I’m not one for keeping up to a schedule, and I think I prefer to just spontaneously have sex.” He said, something just couldn’t be planned.  “ Well it’s hard to know sometimes, but I think I’m very clued in on all your social cues and such.” He said.

Iroca knew he was not good at romance or anything even remotely romantic, but he was willing to try for Daris and only Daris. The man brought out another side of him that he hardly knew existed and he was grateful to the other for dealing with him. “Then you will have to surprise me,” he replied, a hint of excitement on his words. As long as the sex didn’t come in public or when he was meant to be working in the library, he was more or less open to any time. Perhaps that was what he needed when he dove too much into his magic experiments. “I knew you were intelligent.”

He chuckled at his tone, “ Are we scheduling sex now?” He teased. “ Tell the romantic out of making love don’t you think?” He was teasing him of course, but he was happy to spend the day eating lunch together and the nights getting reacquainted with his favorite witch. Anything to spend more times with him, even if he was just sitting reading with him. “ Are you teasing me, darling?” He smirked, loving seeing this side of him. 

“It would make working it into the day much easier, although I do understand the romantic nature of spontaneity.” Being with one another every day for a little while to eat would likely be good for their relationship. Even if it was only for less than an hour, a little talking could go a long way and Iroca knew he could easily enjoy Daris’s company. Unlike with other people, he found that he did not object to the shifter. Certainly, he still enjoyed his time alone, but he could be around Daris much longer than others. He raised a brow. “What was your first clue?”
