These latest episodes of Andor made me angry.
Not because they're bad, far from it, they were great.
But because I know so many will watch this, and then ignore the exact same thing happening right now in Palestine.
The stuff on Ghorman was written before the current genocide in Gaza, but the parallels I could see watching this were frightening to me.
The way everyone was slaughtered like animals.
The way the media manufactures consent for the genocide, to the point where they focus on how those horrible terrorists murdered poor Imperials.
The way before then they were blockaded and starved.
The way imperial powers will stop at nothing, willing to burn the entire place to the ground to get what they want.
The way they're willing to transfer an ENTIRE POPULATION away for their agenda.
People I bet like to think they're Mon Mothma, courageously speaking up against oppression and making a stand. But in reality, they're like Eedy Karn or one of those bootlicking senators crying over dead Imperials.
Knowing that so many people will watch this, see what's happening, and not realising it's happening RIGHT NOW before their own eyes sickens me. Israel literally announced it intends to fully ethnically cleanse Gaza, right as they're starving the population.
And all of us in Western countries are sitting back, having it all beamed to us on our screens and our newspapers, as our leaders look the other way at best, and condone this genocide at worst.
People would rather tune out, or look at it as some far away war that doesn't affect them, or outright support the occupiers because they're supposedly more "civilised".
Palestine just comes to mind because I have never seen somewhere in Western society where the truth just doesn't even matter to most people. It's like the powers that be are forcing us into a false reality for their narrative to make sense.
A key part of Mon Mothma's speech denouncing Palpatine talked about how important the truth is. It is often said that truth is the first casualty in war. The same applies to manufactured consent for a genocide. Ghorman wasn't a war, it was a slaughter. Just like Palestine.
We can all do so much better than we are now. Even as governments are cracking down on protestors supporting Palestine, even as Greta Thunberg was almost shot by fucking drones for trying to go to assist Gaza on the Freedom Flotilla.
I wish I had the answers, but I don't. I'm just a tired nerd on the internet yelling hoping someone cares, wishing he could do more.
Listen to and boost Palestinian voices.
Keep protesting.
Keep giving politicians, media and other public figures complicit absolute hell.
No, seriously. Palestinian people are the people you should be going to and listening to. I can voice my support for them, but they are ones that need to be heard. They are ones we should be heeding. They are the ones we need to support.
So, if any Star Wars fans are with me, all I say is this: what you are watching on your screen is happening right now in real life.
If you have any shred of dignity, please speak out and make noise about this.
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.

MONONYKUS [PREHISTORIC PLANET] IS THE BEST FICTIONAL DINOSAUR!!!!!
After almost exactly 4 months, we have officially crowned the Best Fictional Dinosaur, Mononykus from Prehistoric Planet! It was by no means an easy win though, winning by only 6 or so votes (0.4%!!) in a poll with almost 1500 votes.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who voted, not just in this poll, but in every poll in this tournament! And an even bigger thank you to everyone who reblogged my polls to help spread the word; I know all of you by heart and you are all the best.
It's been fun, and I hope you all had as good a time as I did! Sadly all good things must come to and end; stick around though, if I have time I will post some tournament analytics!
I do have some ideas for my next tournament as well...

AND HERE IT IS! It was really hard to not tell everyone because I knew for more than 2 years now. Please welcome Tameryraptor, a new name for Stromers carcharodontosaurid. Based on Stromers descriptions, drawings and newly found photographs the authors conclude...
...That this animal was distinct from the better known Kem Kem material. I had hoped it to be out before the Bahariya stream but oh well, I did a small update afterwards ;)

If you have ever been tempted by a Paleozoic Pal, like a a stuffed trilobite or a full size eurypterid body pillow, now's the time to buy one, before they and a really lovely little museum are gone for good 😭😭😭

there's absolutely a percentage of people who cannot be normal about zoos in asia and are convinced they're evil torture farms or full of fake animals. remember when a zoo in china had a sun bear on display and folks who'd never even heard of a sun bear before seeing the video were convinced it was a man in a costume??

So uh I am very disturbed to see multiple Democrat voters fantasising (often gleefully) about Israel killing even more Arabs just to spite people to their left who didn't vote for Kamala. Like, do you realise how dehumanising that is to do that???
I'm just gonna straight up say it: if you ARE like this, then you are honestly far more like Trump and his base than you would like to admit. Just because you don't vote for the "bad guy", doesn't mean you're above being super racist and dehumanising.
It really goes to show how self-centred Americans come across to the rest of the world... because several are literally embodying this selfish mindset. All the problems the US causes around the world with bipartisan support? Who cares, only US issues matter, apparently!
Americans (and other wealthy countries, especially Western ones) need to realise the position of privilege they're in. The wealth and luxuries you have in your country are because your country exploited the fuck out of poorer nations and have ruined them all for self-interest.
Do you actually care about the people you claim to be fighting for? Or are you in your own bubble of first world privilege you're afraid to lose too?
There's a reason the saying "scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds" has caught on.
