I apologize in advance for the long post that's coming, but this is literally so true and I wanted to add my two cents LMAO
I genuinely think the writers lose the plot between episodes 6 and 8. I will never get over the fact that they did this complete 180 with Sol's character development bc there were two ways they could've gone with Sol and they tried to do BOTH (and mind you these are two very different ways).
The first way is the way they seemed to be going literally ALL the way until episode 8, which is to show that Sol recognizes what he did was wrong (prepared to come clean to the council) and has been wracked with guilt ever since. This is evident in the way he copes with it or tries to make up for it which is apparent in the beginning episodes when he teaches the younglings and Jecki: "Do not trust your eyes. Your eyes can deceive you." "Our memories are lessons. If you don't meditate on the past…we're doomed to repeat it." (this can be a whole other part by itself tbh)
The other way they could've gone with Sol's character is by putting him in complete denial of what happened on Brendock. Meaning he has not had to deal with any guilt from the aftermath bc he feels that he hasn't done anything wrong. Which could be a really interesting choice if that's what they led with from the beginning. However, from episode 7, we see that Sol is the type to learn from his mistakes (immediately regrets how quick he was to take out his lightsaber on Mother Aniseya) and accepts the consequences of those actions (refuses to fight Koril and takes a beating from her in the process).
So WHY did the writers decide Sol would suddenly be like by the way I'm not actually wrong and I just decided this in the span of a few minutes?? And he suddenly became adamant about proving the vergence? If he really cared that much he could've done something about it sixteen years ago.
Doing a full rewatch and going straight from the end of episode six Sol’s “I’ve had sixteen years to think of what I would say to you if I ever got the opportunity” to what he actually says to her the beginning of episode eight, which is basically, “well you started that fire (which despite being devastating didn’t actually kill anyone. bc everyone was already dead. funny how that happens) and also I’ve decided I don’t feel bad about killing your mom” is honestly the most jarring experience ever and now l’m sympathising extra hard with Mae’s “what the actual fuck am I listening to??” response
#they lost the plot i swearrr#i feel this way about qimir as well#unfortunately we know even less about qimir i feel like#but also i could go way more into sol's character bc he is so interesting#well before the episode 8 switch up at least LMAO#the acolyte#master sol#acolyte discussion
