"you know, I don't normally like surprises. somehow, i'll allow this one. you seem to know what you're doing." she decided with a soft chuckle. she placed the menu back on the bar top, her eyes following ryle as he made the drink. her eyes sparkled with curiosity.
at the presentation of the drink, her eyebrows raised in surprise. "this looks really good. and my god, you know me so well already. nothing like a good mix of spicy and sweet, right?" she wrapped her fingers around the glass, lifting it up to her lips, taking a small sip.
"mhm, see, I knew you were the man for the job. this is delicious." she praised with a nod of her head, taking another sip. the other two girls she was with flagged the other bartender down, them now chatting away with him, presumably leaving drew to continue to speak to ryle.
reaching into her clutch with her free hand, she presented her card to the other. "i'll start a tab, i'm going to need you keep these coming. or whatever else is swirling around in that brain of yours."
ryle raised an eyebrow at drew’s playful comment, a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth as he leaned on the bar, mirroring her stance. he wiped his hands on a towel tucked into his apron, a subtle display of readiness and confidence that suggested he was no stranger to banter like this. “well,” he started, his voice warm but edged with just a hint of mischief, “that depends. are you looking for something bold to match your confidence, or something sweet to keep you guessing?” he tilted his head, giving her a once-over — not in the typical, dismissive way some bartenders did, but as if trying to read her. his gaze didn’t linger long, though; it darted back to her twirling the menu. “you seem like someone who doesn’t settle for the usual. how about i surprise you?” ryle turned slightly, grabbing a shaker and a few bottles with an air of practiced ease. as he worked, he kept talking, his voice carrying easily over the bar’s ambient noise. “i call this one the ‘golden hour.’ It’s a little citrusy, a little spicy, and just sweet enough to keep it balanced. kinda like you, maybe?” his eyes flicked back to hers, testing her reaction. he finished the drink with a quick garnish of orange peel and set it in front of her with a flourish, the light catching the amber liquid in a way that made it almost glow. “let me know if i got it right. if not, i’ll make you something else — on the house.”

closed starter for @birdaquarius - ryle & drew: the early years
drew was a busy person. her activities kept her constantly and consistently on the run. not only was she in year three of her university studies, she was very involved in several programs her school had to offer and working full time to pay for her schooling. whenever she did get a break, she made sure to take care of herself and the people around her. she had a good group of people around her. a lot of the friends she made have been with her since her first year of school. most of her family were scattered across the world.
much like her siblings, she went pretty far away from her hometown for her schooling, something that caused a lot of drama when the admittance letter came to her parent's home. after a lot of tears, heart to hearts, and promises to come visit, they allowed drew to chase her dreams and attend school here. she made this town her home. a home that would be incredibly hard to leave. it was nights like these, where she was all dressed up to the nines with her girls that she'd remember for the rest of her life.
drew and her three friends entered the bustling bar. it was pretty full of people, it being a friday night and all. they'd never been to this bar specifically, it being a recommendation of one of the girls. they all figured they'd hit quite a few bars this night so this one was as good as any to get started at, right? ever confident, drew made her way through the crowd of people, her friends trailing right behind her, already chatting about the atmosphere of the place they were in, wanting to get drinks in them as soon as possible. drew leaned against the bar, her eyes scanning the small drink menu that sat atop the bar. one of her friends, blair, nudged her once she laid eyes on the bartender. drew looked at her first but then moments later, her eyes fell in the same direction that blair gestured to, her and ryle's eyes meeting.
she twirled the drink menu between her fingers, offering ryle a smile as he walked over. "hi, I hope you're going to be our bartender tonight. no offense to the other one running around, but I think you'll do much better." she spoke, in a slightly teasing tone. "I just can't make up my mind, what's your favorite thing to make?"
