Meg’s eyes again lit up when the lights around them turned to white, lighting up the garden as well. She looked around in amazement, before hearing Hercules word’s ring in her ears, kissing him back. “Did you plan this? Because if you didn’t...take the credit and say you did”, she couldn’t hold back her smile. She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him, smiling the whole time, and realized she hadn’t actually smiled like that since before her parents died. The night was beyond what she had imagined. She hadn’t been looking forward to the ball very much, other than getting to feel elegant for a night and forget about her real life. Now, with Hercules here, the lights, the garden, the rose, she realized her life wasn’t so bad. “Look, Hercules. I should be honest. I don’t do...relationships. Normally. I guess. I don’t know how to explain it. I mean, school was different. Everyone wanted to be in relationships and it was so fake. I just wanted something real - that’s why I never really dated. Then I thought I found something real, and it turns out he was just using me. That was probably the biggest mistake I made - falling for someone that I thought I knew. It turns out I didn’t know him at all.” Her face fell. She really had to hope she wasn’t killing the romantic mood that Hercules had done such an amazing job creating. Then again, that would be exactly what she usually did.
She moved her hands down from his neck and stepped away to the bench for a minute, leaving him standing there for an awkward second before returning quickly. “I’m not trying to bring up the past. I am really bad at this. Like, really really bad, obviously. But I have your Christmas gift. I was hoping you’d come by tonight, even if I didn’t want to admit it earlier. There are a lot of things I really don’t want to admit...and that’s just me, I guess. I’m not as sentimental as - well I’m working on it, anyway. I should stop talking. I really like you, Hercules. If I could have anything for Christmas, you already gave it to me tonight. Dancing with me tonight. I could want more - I think I do want more. Dancing with you, I mean”, she admitted, blushing. “And seeing you. And well - here.” She handed him what she had been holding in her hand - the pocket square he had given her years ago at prom. In the corner it had their initials and the date he first kissed her, and she had to hope he remembered and understood the significance. It was probably the most romantic thing she’d ever done, considering her last relationship wasn’t romantic in any way. She knew she was going out on a limb, but she was trying to say things without saying them. “I hope you like it...Merry Christmas, Hercules.”
All I Want For Christmas || Megules
Hercules frowned slightly, hearing the annoyance in her voice. He hoped he hadn’t struck a cord with her, but he realized that this was her projecting her feelings. Hercules knew that Megara wasn’t exactly one for family-centered holidays, but he could only hope that he was breaking her out of that one little step at a time. It was actually a complete surprise when she suddenly shifted her mood, and asked if they would be seeing his parents for Christmas. Taken aback slightly, Hercules stuttered. “Y-yeah, sure,” he nodded, attempting to recover. “Of course, I’d love for you to come back, and I’m sure my parents would too,” he added, a small chuckle escaping his lips. “Right; Though I think what it is, is that some people want to be in relationships around the holidays because of the atmosphere, and then once they’re over, you see those couples fade out. But I’d never do that,” he shook his head. “If you’re going to be with someone, don’t just be with them because you feel like you need to be with someone. That’s kind of how it was back during school; everyone acted like you were supposed to be in a relationship or something.” It seemed stupid then, and even more stupid now.
“The rest of the people, they’re genuine. And people appreciate genuineness, especially during these times. You realize what’s most important to you, and who.” He gave her a smile back, laughing. “I’m sure it’s amazing. I’m not very picky. Your present, however, is at my house, because it’s not ready.” Seeing this side of Megara was new, refreshing and beautiful to see. Hercules was glad that she was telling him what she felt, instead of hiding it. He pressed his forehead against hers, smiling. “I’m glad you’re in mine, too.” Hercules brought one of his hands up to the side of her face, cupping her cheek. Tipping his head to the side, he kissed her softly. Pulling away, Hercules kept his hand against her cheek, still looking into her eyes. “It’s still early, but I have a feeling this Christmas will be different.” At least, he hoped it would. It started to get darker as they had been dancing, and suddenly, the colored lights surrounding them that were so bright and festive turned to gorgeous white lights that lit up the entire garden. Looking around, Hercules smiled, letting out a little gasp. The gardens never looked more beautiful, he thought. He turned his head back to Megara. “Actually, I think this is the best Christmas present I could have,” he expressed, kissing her again.

Meg laughed when Hercules called her a good dancer. “I’ve been to enough of these things that I learn how to follow, oddly enough. Which we all know doesn’t happen often.” Meg thought back to how true that really was. She didn’t follow anyone. She was usually dragged to these things, or went to them because she cared - like in this case. Elsa’s flair for parties, when she had them, made Meg very familiar with proper etiquette, and considering Elsa previously shopped with her for all of her gowns and dresses...well, she knew at least how to dress well for them. Dancing was expected, and while it was usually rude to say no, she typically did regardless. She had no interest in dancing with people she didn’t know, or small talk, unless it was important. This felt different though - she actually wanted to dance with Hercules. She enjoyed the quiet and privacy of the garden, and a part of her wanted to bring him inside for one dance and show him off. He actually was a better dance than he lead on.
“I actually...don’t like Christmas, usually”, Meg admitted, trying not to look Hercules in the eyes. “I tend to spend the holidays alone, which is fine by me”, she scoffed, somewhat annoyed, “But I guess it just makes me miss how I used to spend the holidays. A long time ago.” she tried to explain. Her face lit up for a second, “Are we going to see your parents?” before realizing that she had entirely let that spill out of her mouth. “I mean. You’re right, everyone seems to fall in love during the holidays. Something about the snow and the lights, the fireplaces and families getting together. I guess it makes you appreciate what you have”, she smiled up at him. “Speaking of which, I hope you like what I got you for Christmas. I never really asked what you want...You must have a really busy holiday, between your family and friends”, she quickly recovered. She had a choice to make between being honest and letting her feelings show, and keeping herself within her defensive walls. “I am glad you’re here. I mean. At the ball. And...in my life, too”
All I Want For Christmas || Megules
Hercules couldn’t help but laugh under his breath. “To be honest, I didn’t exactly ask her. She told me,” he explained. “And quite frankly I didn’t really like her either…” Hercules winced slightly at the memory of prom. “I’m sorry about that… he wasn’t really my friend anyway. That night was a mess…” Hercules smiled, though, when she said that she’d take this instead. It actually meant a lot to him, oddly enough. “Really?” he asked. He wasn’t sure why he had, but still, her words were comforting to hear. “I’d take this over that any day.”
“That’s a surprise,” Hercules laughed along with her. “What can I say, I guess it’s a perk. Don’t let this fool you, I’m still pretty clumsy at times.” Hercules took a deep breath, letting it out slowly as Megara rested her head on his shoulder. Somehow, waiting those years to ask her to dance properly felt worth it in that moment. It felt appropriate that Christmas music was playing in the background, especially considering Christmas was Hercules’s favorite holiday, and it was all about family and appreciation. Kissing her on the cheek, Hercules spoke. “You’re not  bad dancer either, you know. For someone who doesn’t typically like to dance, you’re good.” Hercules moved his hands from her waist to her hips, respectfully, and and buried his nose into the crook of her neck, swaying with her to the music. After a few minutes, he lifted his head again, and looked down at her.
“Did I ever tell you that Christmas is my favorite holiday?” he asked her. “I love it because not only do people seem to be more kind and forgiving, but it’s the time of year to really let people know that they’re appreciated, and to spend time with people you care about.”

Meg laughed at his comment about prom. At least they could laugh about it, years later. It made her wish that she had actually asked him to accompany her to this event, but she was so independent. "You're just in time, really. I was beyond bored, not to mention I've been trying to avoid dancing with anyone I've talked to", she laughed. "The dance wasn't that bad, I guess, but my dance partners definitely weren't you", she raised an eyebrow at him. "I have to come to these events because Elsa is still my best friend...but I think they would be more fun with a date for a change."
Meg let Hercules take her hand, meeting his eyes. "Sure...", she gracefully moved her other hand around his neck as they started to dance to the music. It all reminded her of year ago. "You know," she started, "I really hated that girl you brought with you to prom. Her blonde hair and perfection, and I was just a mess, and your friend was an ass." She shook her head, remembering sitting in the garden that night after leaving the Main Hall. "I don't blame you, though. She was really pretty. And to be honest, I am glad I'm getting this dance now, so she can have prom. I'll take this instead", she was surprised at how easily the words fell out of her mouth. That was unlike her, and she had to remind herself to think before she spoke. What if she said something stupid? Why was she being like this? It was just a dance. "You are a really good dancer", she laughed. "After all those years of being ungraceful and everything, and here you are twirling me around like its nothing", she said as she put her head on his shoulder.
All I Want For Christmas || Megules
“Well, I’ve learned a thing or two about formal attire since prom, and I figured since it was Christmas time, why not go all out? Besides, if I showed up to this ball looking homeless I don’t think they’d let me within 100 feet of the place,” Hercules laughed. He pushed a small curl that had begun to deform behind Megara’s ear to hide it, taking in how breath taking she looked. “As for you, you look pretty amazing as well. The red is a nice change.” He was so used to her in purple, but the red was beautiful as well. Plus, the rose matched her dress. “Sorry I’m just getting here now, but I hope I’m not too late.” He hadn’t planned on going to the event simply because he had to get shopping done, and felt he didn’t have time. He probably would have stopped by after, regardless, but if Megara wanted him there, then he would go.
Looking around at all of the lights and decorations, Hercules couldn’t help but smile. “It really is like a winter wonderland out here. Minus the snow,” he chuckled. Christmas music was playing in the gardens as well, setting the scene. Herc looked back down at Megara, a smile still on his lips. He was relieved to be with her probably as much as she was relieved to have left the dance. “Was the dance that bad?” he asked, raising a brow, keeping a slight smile. “I mean, these events always seem so elegant, and I’m not exactly the most graceful person, but I’d say I can dance fairly well.” He gave a small shrug of his shoulders, not thinking much of it. Then, as he paused, he took Meg’s hand, looking down at their hands together before bringing his eyes up to meet hers. “I know this is a few years late, but,” he started. “Would you dance with me?”

Meg sat waiting in the garden for Hercules to show up. She had spent the majority of her evening talking to various people she really didn't know, or care to know, and was hoping a friendly face would make the chaos calm down around her. She heard a few footsteps nearby get louder, and she stood up from the stone bench she was sitting on and smoothed out her gown. Looking down, she hoped the red looked alright on her. She usually chose purple as her color of choice, but seeing that it was Christmas, and a masquerade ball, she decided to go more formal. She had a small tiara in her hair, which was curled and sat along her shoulders. It moved very slightly as she felt Hercules come up behind her, and she turned around.
"You...", she trailed off, taking in how handsome he looked. She hadn't seen him in a tuxedo since prom, and if it was possible, he looked even better now. She sighed, remembering how not-well prom went. "You really clean up nice", she laughed, accepting the red rose. "This is really for me?", she looked up at him. She didn't know who else it would be for, but after the night she had, she didn't know what to expect. "It's beautiful...thank you. I'm so glad to see you. I can't tell you how stressful it can get coming to these events alone. I really should have stayed home...but I'm glad you're here now." She was surprised at how relieved she was to see him smiling back at her.
All I Want For Christmas || Megules
Hercules got off the phone with Megara, got back into his car where he put the rest of his shopping bags away, and drove home quickly to change and drop off what he bought. After a quick costume change he was back in the car, driving himself down to the Arendelle Gardens while the night was still young. It did sort of bother him when Megara told him that she had been avoiding invitations to dance, not because of anything she did, but because he was slightly jealous.
Hercules parked across from the gardens and stepped out of the car, carrying his mask for the masquerade and a red rose held behind his back. Approaching the gardens that were all lit for the festival, Hercules snuck in, making sure that Meg didn’t see him, as he wanted to surprise her. Once he spotted her, Hercules lifted the mask to cover his face, walking up behind her. “Excuse me, Miss, but I think someone is need of a little cheer this season,” he smirked, removing the mask and smiling at her. She looked amazing. Hercules was almost speechless after that comment as she turned around. He handed her the rose, taking a breath. “For you.”

You just said a whole bunch of stuff I don’t understand, but yea. I was being sarcastic. That’s pretty much how I tend to be, in social settings. I think feelings are dumb and so are people that have them, so. That’d be why I have very little friends, and so many awkward moments.
Tumblr media
You sound like a textbook, Milo. Maybe you do need a drink. Seriously, take a shot. And no, I’m not looking for something...I’m here because this is my best friend’s party. And I kind of like Christmas, a little. But no, I’m here alone. I have a few friends here. And right now, I’m talking to you. What are you looking for?
Uh–Megara, I have no intention on studying you or anyone here.  That’s–that’s–it’s not quiet my field of study you see….To be frank, some people I just can’t even understand.  But the slight deviation of timbre in your voice, your obtrusive appoggiaturas on specific words, and a whole other change to your natural prosody leads me to believe that you’re being sarcastic with me?

I don’t have a story. He’s my ex, so he doesn’t lie to me anymore, because he’s not currently in my life. Life is great that way. I imagine he lied to me because he had low self-esteem, but that’s some psychological issue even I don’t care enough to delve into. If you do want to get to know him, by all means. He’s usually at the bar.
Tumblr media
You will be expected to dance at this event, so good luck. I hope you took some kind of lessons or something - these balls are full of good mannered people that probably don’t care to be the subject of your studies. Though I could be wrong, of course. I’m not exactly a people pleaser.
Being in the academic paradigm is slightly different from a setting like this. I prefer the academic one because I love spreading kowledge and empowering young minds with the gift of knowledge.  Plus I don’t have to be expected to dance.

Uhm. I didn’t know alcohol was so...symbolic, but yes, I suppose. More evil than good, but sure. It’s weird that you study linguistics but you get anxious in crowds...how do you teach? In that case, you’ll hear every type of story there is - everyone has a story here. Whether the stories are true or not, I guess depends on how much alcohol they’ve had and the type of person they are. Unless you run into my ex, in which case everything he spurts out is a lie.
Tumblr media
It is, yes. My mom always loved history, I guess. I wish I had some kind of reply for where Milo comes from, but I really have no clue. I guess that’s your area of expertise, not mine. So, you showed up here alone, not knowing anyone?
Its amazing how much alcohol had certainly made an effect on just about every great fumble and progression throughout history.  Such a simple little thing, yet in every drop lies the eternal struggle of good and evil.  Its certainly…humbling, don’t you think, Megara?

Megara…that’s a lovely name…Greek is it not?

You should know, before you insult her further, that Elsa is one of my best friends. Actually, my only best friend, considering I don’t have multiple. So no, she’s not rude. She’s probably held up - people are always pulling her every direction.
Tumblr media
But your apology is noted, since you’ve been drinking. Someone needs to handle their liquor better, Milo. My name is Megara, but friends call me Meg. At least, the friends I have do. I wouldn’t get on the dance floor tonight, if you have trouble talking when drinking. This is a masquerade ball, after all. I imagine it’d be very dizzying.
Do you think she’ll ever make it out of–where ever she maybe and perhaps–interact with us.  I mean, who holds a festve gathering like this and doesn’t at least show up?  Somewhat rude…And with attractive and people here, like yourself—-

I don’t really enjoy fancy balls either, but at least I can drink. Why are you stuck here?
Tumblr media
Why don’t you just bail and get out of here? Go watch a Christmas movie or something.
Yeah, well I can’t drink, and even if I could, I wouldn’t. Blech…. But, you’re right. It’s Christmas.

Oddly enough I love Christmas, but this ball isn’t my cup of tea. I’d much rather be… well, anywhere else but here, really.

Besides, it’s Christmas. Granted, everyone else is all cheery and annoying, and I hate that - but there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the food and friends.
I can’t believe that I’m stuck here… I hate formal events like this.

And I definitely don’t dance. God I want out of here… How can you stand this?

Oh, look at Mr. Psychiatrist over here. I’m not lying. Guys aren’t my thing...But maybe Soter Boy is.  He’s not like most guys, he’s different. Look, tell me I’m in love with him and I’ll roll my eyes at you. Maybe I’m lying to myself, or just to you, but the beauty of it is you’ll never know, will you?
Tumblr media
You don’t know him, or me, for that matter, so you’re guessing. I just like him a lot. If I had to worry about anyone from the past or needed to be sneaky and send a search party out to find him, that’d mean I didn’t trust him, and then there’s no point in anything. Not that he and I are even together - can we focus on that for a minute? We are just friends. Ish. More than friends, but whatever, we don’t have a title. You know what I mean.
Let’s focus on you. You’re here, trying to stalk your way over to someone - I can only imagine who- and you don’t want anyone to see...so if you’re not into dating, then why are you doing this again? It seems like a decent amount of work for noone special.
No, you don’t have any choice, really. Hmm. So you’re complicated, and what, he’s not? I highly doubt that. People as a whole are complicated. It’s the nature of them. You know, there are ways of finding out what he’s up to, if you really wanted to. But, if you trust him, then it shouldn’t be a problem. Unless of course he runs into someone from Christmas Past but, that’s highly unlikely.
I don’t do the whole dating thing. Much like you phrased it, it’s not my scene. And clearly, you can imagine why. The only reason I’m here at all is to talk to someone as I’ve already told you, and this is probably the only chance I’ll get. Everyone who would prevent it is otherwise preoccupied.
Tumblr media
If guys aren’t your thing then why are you with Soter boy? Hm? I mean no offense by this of course, Megara, but it would appear that you’re lying. Not to me, though. To yourself.

Well, I didn’t have thirteen sisters - or any sisters- to be stuck learning dancing with, but, I’ve danced with enough guys like you to learn how to follow.
And I’ll let you call him Soter boy, since I don’t have much choice, and I guess it’s kind of cute. There’s no mystery, really. It’s all pretty simple, now that I think about it. I’m the complicated part of it, if anything. I just didn’t think of what he’s doing instead of being here, and I’m dancing with you, so I guess I’m a little nervous what he’s up to.
Tumblr media
I didn’t decide to come here alone, per say. I was invited because I’m close with Elsa, and I have to come to support her. But she’s usually so busy at these things, I rarely run into her. Support from afar, I guess. Plus I never come with a date. Guys aren’t my thing. Why are you here, dateless?
I prefer enigmatic over shady. It sounds more sophisticated, and deep. But you’d be assuming correctly; I wouldn’t have been able to avoid dancing if I tried. If you can imagine what it’s like trying to get thirteen boys to learn to dance… that was my life.
Tumblr media
Hmm… I think Soter boy suits him better. Prom? Ah, so that’s where the mystery then lies… It’s interesting that you say you’re not nervous, but your pulse has started shaking. My guess is that it’s because of Soter boy.
So you’ve decided to come here alone, why? It wasn’t to dance, and here you are with me, rather than with Elsa. I think it’s safe to say you’re not specifically here to see her, either.
