Seems something as important as recycling should be made as easy as possible for people to do it.

Original caption:
This is the preliminary version of a video that demonstrates the maximum distribution of the glaciers Colorado at 20,000 years ago. The animation is a fly-around of the state showing the distribution of the ice, its presence in the high valleys, and the adjacent high peaks. Key geographic features and towns are annotated
The video demonstrates three concepts: (1) the high mountains of Colorado had extensive glaciers, and (2) glaciers are a major source of erosion in the high mountains
The distribution of the glaciers is from Jack Reed, USGS, Lakewood, Colorado. Video is created by James Adson, Joseph Rogers, Ludvig Rhodin, and Paul Weimer.

Dems: Start Going For The Jugular
Political scientist David Faris just wrote a book in which he suggests some things Democrats could do if they take back Congress and the White House and want to get serious about fighting back against the GOP. A few of his ideas:
Abolish the filibuster so any bill can pass the Senate with 50 votes and the veep
Make D.C. a state, which would add two black Democratic senators to the Senate
Make Puerto Rico a state, which would add two Latino Democrats to the Senate
Break California into multiple states to add yet more Democrats to the Senate
Expand the Supreme Court to 11 (or more) justices, and have the president appoint 40-year-olds
Make Election Day a national holiday, forbid states from passing Voter ID laws, make voter intimidation a felony
I’m all for it. Democrats have got to stop bringing a knife to a gun fight. They have to stop expecting Republicans to be civil and reasonable and meet them halfway. Hate to break it to you guys, but that country doesn’t exist anymore, and it ain’t coming back.
The party that hates poor people, immigrants, and the environment has no scruples and will do whatever it takes to enact their agenda. It’s high time the party that’s supposed to fight for these things grows a pair and starts going for the jugular. Enough of this “they go low, we go high” crap. That kind of thinking got us Justice Gorsuch for the next 40 years.
I doubt Dems in Congress will do any of these things. There seems to be something in their DNA that just makes them way too nice and wishy-washy. But maybe they’ll prove me wrong. Someday.

Bureo is a company that makes skateboards out of recycled fishing nets. They have a recycling program called ‘Net Positiva’ in Chile where the fishing nets are collected. They started off with skateboards which are still their main product, but have also expanded to surf fins for surfboards and frisbees. If you love to skate and care about the ocean this may be the skateboard you want to check out next. https://bureo.co

It may be time to tailor students’ class schedules to their natural biological rhythms, according to a new study from UC Berkeley and Northeastern Illinois University.
Researchers tracked the personal daily online activity profiles of nearly 15,000 college students as they logged into campus servers.
After sorting the students into “night owls,” “daytime finches” and “morning larks"—based on their activities on days they were not in class—researchers compared their class times to their academic outcomes.
Their findings, published today in the journal Scientific Reports, show that students whose circadian rhythms were out of sync with their class schedules - say, night owls taking early morning courses - received lower grades due to "social jet lag,” a condition in which peak alertness times are at odds with work, school or other demands.

Eat more plants!
One dude’s 3 tips for eating more plants!
40s year old male with wife and kids here. Few months ago decided to eat more plants because 1. It’s good for our Earth 2. It’s good for better health, and 3. See #1.
Here are 3 things I did to help me and my fam eat more plants.
1. Smoothies. After a few weeks trial and error, settled on 3 recipes for smoothies that we all love, kids too! Each one has frozen fruit and some fresh veggies. The Kids sip on them with breakfast and lunch and get 1-2 extra servings a day!
2. Vegify an old fav-I love spaghetti with meat sauce. But now I wash some ‘shrooms, throw’em in a food processor, simmer in some butter for 5 min, add favorite sauce, boom! Mushroom bolognese.
3. Find a new veggie fav. I’ve discovered avocado toast with honey and red pepper flakes. It’s delicious and super easy.
Bonus tip. Snacks=fruits and nuts.

“Cape Town is in the unenviable situation of being the first major city in the modern era to face the threat of running out of drinking water. However, the plight of the drought-hit South African city is just one extreme example of a problem that experts have long been warning about - water scarcity. Despite covering about 70% of the Earth’s surface, water, especially drinking water, is not as plentiful as one might think. Only 3% of it is fresh.”

Takeout creates a lot of trash. It doesn’t have to.
Even if you are one of the virtuous few who try to make a home-cooked meal every night, some nights cry out for takeout or delivery. Someone else taking care of dinner for you after a long day — it can be just what the doctor ordered.
And it’s popular: Food delivery is a $43 billion business in the US today. In many cases, not only are these services delivering food, they’re delivering lots of extra stuff: bags, boxes, wrapping, napkins, utensils, packs of condiments, colorful branded bits and bobs.
These little containers and wrappers may not seem like a big deal, but in the U.S., packaging makes up the largest category of municipal waste.
On top of that, single-use items like disposable plates and utensils, junk mail, and paper towels make up another 10% of our discards.
It piles up in our landfills, while manufacturing, shipping, and disposing of all of this stuff — often used for mere seconds — creates big greenhouse gas emissions.
“We really do need to prioritize reduce and reuse over recycling,” said Anne Krieghoff, solid waste and recycling program coordinator at the University of California Irvine. “Recycling is great to deal with a product once it’s already in your hand. But waste minimization is more important.”
Under Krieghoff’s watch, UC Irvine has reduced waste to the point that it now diverts 80 percent of its garbage from landfills. The goal: zero waste. UC Irvine isn’t alone: cities, counties, and large companies across the country are shooting for zero waste.
Watch the video above featuring to learn more about some simple ways that we can drop our single-use habits.
