Should Europe close the borders for refugees or open them? Explain why.
Some research: People who are in favor of closing the borders say that they are overwhelming an already stressed system according to the source. The terror attacks in Europe indicates on a weak system. Europe would have more control about their own country and possibilities. People who are in favor that the borders should remain open say that it creates a stronger and unified Europe. They say that closing borders will not stop terrorists. Also they say that the people that are coming in are refugees and that Europe would not close the borders because for humanitarian reasons. Fortune.com says that open borders will make the world twice as rich. Source 1- : https://thetylt.com/politics/should-europe-close-its-borders Source 2- : http://fortune.com/2016/04/17/immigration-open-borders/
Sub questions:
Poll: should we close the border for refugees yes or no? How many people said yes: 49 people want the border be open How many people said no: 5 people want the border to be closed How many people did not had an opinion: 6 people did not had an opinion
Is the EU scared of refugees? Explain your answer. Europeans thinks that the refugees crisis are related to the threat of terrorism. Europeans are scared because of their jobs and other economical reasons. So yes Europe is scared of the refugees. Source 1- http://www.pewglobal.org/2016/07/11/europeans-fear-wave-of-refugees-will-mean-more-terrorism-fewer-jobs/ Source 2- http://www.euronews.com/2016/11/01/refugees-in-germany-from-desperation-to-economic-fortune
Does Europe get in economic problems because of refugees, if the borders remain open? One refugee cost €12000,- per year. Source 1- : http://bruegel.org/2015/10/how-will-refugees-affect-european-economies/
How would refugees react if the borders are closed? They will search for other alternatives like Asia or Africa. They can maybe try to brake in Europe. Europe cannot easily close the borders because that would be bad for Europeans to trade or to travel, and there is a bigger chance of violence.
What effects would it have to close the borders for refugees? It will stop the terroristic attacks because the people that join IS will not come in Europe. If the treaty of Schengen wasn't there it would be difficult for Europeans to live or to work in other European Union countries. Especially for today's young and unemployment people in search for their job. So if the borders would close it would be difficult to travel or trade.

Why do we need the EU in the future?
We need the EU in the future because of basic necessities (money, food etc.) those are very important, and the countries in the EU can help each other getting these. In the EU we have single marketing, because of this you don't have to pay for import and export trading. Without the EU you had to pay 3% extra! The EU also helps preventing world wars and helps protecting each other from terrorism.

How would the EU be prepared for future developments?
If there will be overpopulation because of refugees in the future, will and can the EU solve this problem? Explain why.
They will solve the refugee problem, in this source you can see that they’re already doing things against it. They will probably keep on making solutions and eventually they will solve the refugee problem.
source: http://publications.europa.eu/webpub/com/factsheets/refugee-crisis/en/#what-is-the-eu-doing
What will future developments be?
Over-population, natural disasters, food shortage, global warming, countries leaving the EU, not enough jobs, crisis and war.
How can we prepare on these developments?
here are a few examples;
We have to start making appointments with the EU about how many migrants every country can take in, because if there are some rules already then this progress will be easier in the future.
There are already projects to prevent natural disasters. A project has developed the INFRARISK Decision Support Tool (IDST). This consists of a computer programme that has been developed from information extracted of case studies on road and rail networks all across Europe. These studies investigated at where the transport’s infrastructure was damaged and provided an assessment of overall transport conditions.

What would be the ideal future situation?
We as a group think that it will be better if the Netherlands would stay in the European Union, because it will be a disaster for the economic reasons. We're such a small country that we can't deliver enough important goods like oil and gas. The Netherlands also has to put the Gulden back in charge when they exit from the EU. It will also be a bad thing for the European Union when the Netherlands leaves, because the Netherlands is the second country that would leave the European Union in a short time. Other countries will also start thinking if the European Union is good enough for their economics. The alliance between countries of the EU. The EU consists of 27 countries, who work together in one community. The alliance was made for the countries so they can build up their economics and prevent wars. Because of the EU most countries pay with the euro, so in each country of the EU you can pay with the same currency. The EU is a single market, so that means that you don't have to pay if you trade with other countries, so you don't pay more money for importation or exportation The alliance between the EU and other countries. In the ideal future situation of the EU, the EU will have an alliance with the countries; America, Russia, Chile and Canada. They chose these countries because of their trading supplies, but also because of their good intentions for world peace. With all of their economics together, their good intentions and truthful alliance. About war, if there will find a war place between, for example America and North Korea, the one everyone is basically fearing right now. The EU will fight with Chile, Canada, America and Russia against that country. The alliance also means that the countries will work together against natural disasters, such as global warming, earthquakes and hurricanes.

What will happen to the EU if the Netherlands would leave?
The PVV is proposing to leave the EU, but what will actually happen to the EU if the Netherlands leaves?
What are the advantages for the Netherlands?
A big advantage of leaving the EU, is freedom of policy. The Netherlands is free to rule the country in the way they want to. Another advantage is that the Netherlands save a lot of money because they don't have to participate in paying money to the EU, but the currency will be worth a lot more.
Why shouldn't the Netherlands leave the EU?
The Netherlands will not only get out of the EU, they will also lose the Euro and get back to the 'gulden'.
Leaving the EU also means that there will be border controls again. This will cause a lot of traffic problems.
There is a lot of climate change happening in the world and we want to prevent that, or make it stop. But if the Netherlands leaves the EU , the Netherlands can’t take care of this problem as an individual country .
What would the reaction be of the EU if the Netherlands would leave?
Based on the Brexit we can see what the reaction of the EU could be. The Eu doesn’t like the fact that countries want to leave their continent, because if countries leave a continent they are not pictured well to other countries and continents.
The EU is a big continent with lots of countries, all those countries will help each other and make it a safe continent. But if more countries will leave the EU it will be less safe and they become less strong. So the EU wants to keep all those countries together.
So, there are some advantages but looking at the disadvantages we could say that it's better for the Netherlands to not leave the EU. That’s also an advantage for the EU.

Our point of view
As group we think that the EU made a big influence on the world, since all the countries are united. It might make a bigger difference in this big world, because when the council of the EU makes a decision this makes a bigger difference since this decision is for all the countries in the EU. Besides that, we are safer and stronger since the countries are united. The EU makes the countries balanced by sending money to them. The EU makes people feel safer, because the countries are united and will help each other when needed.
So this is our opinion on the EU.

What is the EU actually? (500 words)
The European Union is a political and economic union of 28 countries. The EU was founded in 1958 at that time there were 6 members Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxemburg and The Netherlands. In later years the EU has let in more countries to get more members and power. The treaty of Maastricht was shaped in 1993 and is the foundation of the EU. The last change of the foundation was in 2007 with the treaty of Lisbon.
Important institutions from the EU are for example the European Commission, The Council of the European Union, the European Council, the European Court of Justice and the European Central Bank. The European Parliament is chosen every 5 year by the inhabitants form the EU. Sometimes also the term Europa totum pro parte is been used.
The EU has a common intern market, developed via a standard legal system that applies in every country in the EU. On the border passport control has been abolished. The EU-policy focuses on the free movement of labour, goods, services and money, to issue the legislation on Justice and home affairs and the holding on to community policy in the area of trade, agriculture, fishing and regional development. A monetary union, the eurozone, is located in 1999 and exists since 2015 in 19 countries. The EU has permanent diplomatic offices over the world which is represented in the United Nations, the WTO, the G8 and the G20. And in 2012 on December 10th in the EU this is received by Herman van Rompuy, Martin Schulz and José Manuel Barroso
After the Second World War, European integration was seen as an antidote to the extreme nationalism which had devastated the continent. Jean Monnet, Robert Schuman and Konrad Adenauer presented in a speech the so-called Shumanplan. A year later the “European Community for Coal and Steel” (ESGK) was established by signing the treaty of Paris by Belgium, West-Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands
The EGKS turned out to be successful, which was decided in 1957 for further integration. The treaty of Rome, signed by 6 countries, established the euratom and the European economic community. In 1967, the 3 organisations were merged by signing the treaty of merger. This led to the creation of the Commission, the council and the parliament.
In 2002 all the countries in the EU started using the currency Euros except: Denmark, Sweden, United Kingdom, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia. In 2004 10 new countries joined the EU, and in 2007 Bulgaria and Romania joined the EU as the 26th and 27th country. Because of the EU being so big it wanted to keep balance so they signed the treaty of Lisbon. In 2013 Croatia joined the EU this is the most recent country to join the EU.
On June the 23th the United Kingdom decided to step out of the EU. The so called Brexit was the first time a country stepped out of the EU. (Apart from Greenland who stepped out the EU in 1985). On March the 29th article 50 was signed by Theresa May. Article 50 says that the UK can officially leave the EU.

Why are there different languages and can that be changed?
More than a thousands of years, humans split into groups that moved in different directions. One language could be turned into many languages. People had to live in different places, like hot deserts, steamy rainforest and freezing mountains. Each place has different kinds of weather, animals and plants. But that needed a name, so everyone called everything different, and different languages were formed. This situation can be changed, there was a man called L. Zamenhof who wanted to have one language in the world, he made the language Esperanto, but it wasn't a succes, because Esperanto hasn't become an official language of any recognized country. Maybe when someone comes up with a good solution, something could be changed.

Why would refugees flee to Europe?
Refugees are forced to reach a better life, so they will flee to rich countries, where is a good healthcare, like the Netherlands. The refugees see Europe as a place where there is peace and wealth, compared to the violence in their home countries. There is also not enough international aid to help refugees in the region, because there's not enough money to pay it, so in their country, there's not enough help. That is the reason why they are going to find help in richer countries, which can pay international aid, like countries in Europe. Europe is also the closest destination, so they can travel by the boat across the Mediterranean Sea. The neighbouring countries are also full of refugees, so they have to flee to a country where's place, like countries in Europe.

What would happen if the Netherlands would leave the EU?
Rabobank says that if the European Union falls apart , there will be some consequences, like the Dutch economy will shrink by 10-15 procent and the unemployment will be doubled. If the nexit will happen, the Netherlands has to get a new coin, which costs a lot of money. The Netherlands gives more money to the EU ,than it gets from the EU. That means that if we're not member of the EU anymore, we don't have to lose money on the EU. Positive points of the Eu are: long freedom en stability. The EU are like our friends, we help them and they help us. Trading ; think about the oranges in the supermarket, most of the time they come from a country like Spain. We buy them from Spain ( member of EU as well). We trade a lot with countries in the EU. We can discuss about a lot of things with the EU, like global warming. We can share our ideas and knowledge. A negative point of the EU is that we are giving a lot of money to the EU.

What do people in the Netherlands think of the EU?
50 % of the people in the Netherlands are willing to go out of the EU right now. Almost 1200 people answered a poll were they got 3 options to choose. 39% of those people chose to stay in the EU and 23% wanted to go out of the EU and become member of the European tradingorganisation (EVA). Right now Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland are already members of the EVA. 27% would rather go out of the EU and have a trading contract with the countries they want. The 11% people that are left didn't know what to choose. So in total 50% of the Netherlands wants to go out of the EU and 39% wants to stay.

Why do countries want to join the EU?
You would want to join the EU because of peace. There has never been a war between members of the EU. Or you could join because of economic growth, all the economys in the EU got a big boost after joining the EU. Freedom could also be a reason to join the EU, because the european people are free to travel to any european country (this might change because of the migrant crisis). This are the countries that would like to join the EU:
• Albania.
• Montenegro.
• Serbia.
• The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
