Monk and Robot by Becky Chambers
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. Now, one returns to ask a tea monk: “What do people need?” They don’t have an answer yet, but together, they’re determined to find one. In a world where people have what they want, does having more matter?
The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune
It’s the spring of 1995, and Nate Cartwright has lost everything. Retreating to his family’s cabin in Oregon after hitting rock bottom, he expects solitude—until he finds a man named Alex and a girl who calls herself Artemis Darth Vader. And Artemis is anything but ordinary. As cultists and agents close in, Nate must choose: stay lost in the past or fight for a future he never saw coming.

Eat the Ones You Love by Sarah Maria Griffin
After losing her job and fiancé, Shell Pine moves back home and starts working at a flower shop in the mall. The flowers lift her spirits—and so does Neve, the alluring and secretive shop manager. But something sinister grows behind the scenes: a sentient orchid with a taste for manipulation, a hunger that can’t be sated, and a plan that could uproot them all.
But Not Too Bold by Hache Pueyo
The old keeper of the keys is dead, and the creature who ate her? Anatema, an enormous humanoid spider with a taste for laudanum and human brides. Now her protégée, Dália, must tend to Anatema’s memory drawers and uncover the truth behind her mentor’s execution. But there’s one problem: Anatema can’t resist a beautiful woman, and she eventually devours every single bride that crosses her path.

If you need a little extra motivation to hit your word count—we’ve got you!
We've added a timer to Ellipsus—because nothing fuels creativity quite like a ticking clock. ⏳
Set an individual timer in your document, for anywhere from 1 minute to 24 hours and 59 minutes (depending on your ambition… or chaos level 🤪). When time’s up, we’ll show you the total difference in your word count so you can bask in the afterglow of your sprint. ✨
Writers, on your marks… get set… GO!

One of the coolest parts about being a fan of fanfic is you can actually contact the author. And they will respond. And then you can message them nonstop until they allow you into their lives and then you’re becoming their beta reader and suddenly you know multiple authors of all types of fiction books and fanfic authors who will drag out their deleted fics for you to read at a moments notice.
Anyway. Comment on fics and message authors. It’s absolutely worth it.

You can fight AI in indie publishing by leaving reviews.
Seriously.
Ai-generated garbage is flooding the self-publishing market. It works as a numbers game- put out ENOUGH fake crap and eventually someone’s aunt will buy them the ebook as an unwanted gift, and you’ll have made two dollars. This tactic works at SCALE, which means real independent titles are now a needle amongst a haystack of slop.
If you have read a book this year that has less than 5 reviews, your rating is an algorithmic spotlight on that needle.
A one sentence review helps. Really. A star rating helps if you really can’t think of anything to say, but if you can muster up even “I laughed at the part about the tabby cat” you are doing indie authors a favor like you cannot believe.
(Also if you left a review on one of my books this year I am kissing you so softly on your forehead and I adore you)

writing tip: searching "[place of origin]ish names" will get you a lot of stuff and nonsense made up by baby bloggers.
searching "[place] census [year]" will get you lists of real names of real people who lived in that place.

take my hand for a moment
your objective from this point on is to survive
the election results are going to take a few days. The world is going to be very tense. I want you to take all the things you like to do to distract yourself and splurge on them. I want you to go eat your favroite foods and spend time with friends. I want you to do what you gotta do to make sure you can make it through the week.
There are people out there who want you to survive. There are people out there who are just as scared as you are.
We'll get through this. We will find a way

I just reada really good fic but halfway through I realized "oh shit this is really familiar.... didn't I write something like this once?" And as I kept reading I kept predicting what happened next and the further I went the more convinced I was that they'd ripped off my story-
like, copied the ENTIRE plot and re-written it, just better than I had? The characters were more fleshed-out than mine were, and the POV was more interesting, and the pace made more sense- but it was MY STORY?
So close to the end I was like "holy shit.. do I message them? Ask if my story inspired theirs? Should I be angry? Flattered?" Cause their tags and description didn't mention me AT ALL, which, sure, it's fanfiction to begin with, but if you're using my work than at least credit me as inspo, right? Just to be courteous?
But I get to the end of the final chapter, and it's not finished, and I'm kind of disappointed cause I never finished my story and I was really immersed in their version now and had been looking forwards to seeing how they tied up my loose ends- so I scroll to the bottom to leave a comment, and.
It's MY URL.
IT WAS MY STORY THE WHOLE TIME.
THE ONE *I WROTE*.
In *2013*.
And FORGOT ABOUT
BECAUSE I WAS SO INSECURE ABOUT MY SLOPPY, SHALLOW, AMETEUR WRITING
And I'm just sitting here now staring into space thinking about every shitty story I've ever written now like
IT WAS ALL GOOD?
Tumblr media
IT WAS GOOD THIS WHOLE DAMN TIME??

I'M A GOOD WRITER?????

MY BOOK WILL BE OUT ON THE  31st OF THIS MONTH!
Read before bedtime! Or any time you're feeling hot and bothered...
Within these pages, you'll find a bundle of twenty short erotic thrillers, each with a loose theme revolving around college—all of which will feature many different characters such as the strict headmaster who threatens to expel you, hot professors who'll give you an A in exchange for a little something in return, flirty bullies who don't take no for an answer—as well as fluffier characters like nerdy tutors who'll gladly do your homework for you, sweet boyfriends, childhood friends, and clingy fuckbuddies.
Many of the erotic thrillers within this collection contain content triggering to some, such as overall explicit sexual themes, including non-consensual and sadomasochistic sex.
The book caters specifically to a female audience with a straight orientation. It uses pronouns such as she/her and descriptions of the female body for the second-person reader. To complement this, all the antagonists are portrayed as male.
In its entirety, the book is approximately 300 pages long, while the twenty stories within fluctuate, some longer and others shorter.
Table of Contents:
Professor Moore--volume one and two
Owen: The Bully
Aaron: The Boyfriend
Murphy: The Tutor
John: The Stepfather--volumes one, two, and three
Ruby: The Fuckfriend
Headmaster Corbin
Adrian: The Roommate
Alec, The Childhood Friend
Jessie: The Loner
Brian and Ryan: The Third Wheeler
Professor Lynch
Your Boyfriend's Sketchy Friend
Mr. Solomon: The Therapist
Officers Brown and Keating
Jacob and Joshua: The Twins
The first 10% is available to read for free on SMASHWORDS, including the Foreword and the first two volumes of Professor Moore!
