FIN ~
So, after a good few weeks of blood, sweat and tears my magazine is now complete with its final theme and original articles. I have to say I am pleased with the result as it really does look like an online fashion magazine and it is everything I’d hoped it to be. The soft yellow background really stands out and it doesn’t hurt your eyes.
The header image is now a GIF (moving image) and it relates to my featured article on the homepage. This as well as the widgets will make the reader more interested to read on, hence why I didn’t add the continue reading’ option. Smart trick.
It is now week 12 and my presentation is tomorrow.
Wish me luck.

The Theme
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My theme is called Colinear. One of the recommended magazine themes. It works great if you want a clean layout. I had to follow the suggested dimensions from the info icon.

Why do we need IsleStyle?
There is a need for a fashion website that specialises in a minimalistic lifestyle because technology is evolving. It is our future and currently in 2018, our world is beginning to notice the desperate need for sustainability due to fast fashion or in other words - mass consumption.
Therefore, there’s definitely a niche for this as it’s unique and it will suitably apply to us millennial’s - the ones who are quick to pluck a garment off a rack, buy it and be done with it after the first or second wear. Fashionably educating stylish young adults on going minimal will hopefully help us get one step closer to saving the planet.
So far there has been positive feedback from the public - things are looking great!
Lets make minimalism stand out from all the other trends. Welcome to IsleStyle.

Widgets
Looking at a more professional approach, I added widgets. These include social media icons, a video, a search bar, twitter feed and the calendar so readers can see what articles have been posted each month.

Session 5 - Moodboard and Visualisation of Site
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This week I started to visualise my colour story and a mood board that captures the vibe and aesthetic for my online magazine. I was inspired by neutral colours, fluid lines and curves as well as the pop of colour - yellow will be the accent colour. My focus will be on minimalism and chic. This would help my direction in choosing the right theme and colours on WordPress.
I also visulaised what IsleStyle’s reader would be. As my audience is already in my age group, the reader will be predominantly female. Though the site isn’t strictly for women only. I will be targeting women specifically, those who are aware of our society and what’s going on around us. Trends, I picture her to be a blogger, loves taking photo’s and travelling - she prefers to walk than take vehicles whether its to save money or to prevent air pollution. Environmentally cautious as well as one that goes for organic cotton rather than normal.
She doesn’t care about the brand, she will get what she likes. Whether it be in a charity shop or in a high street store. She pulls off any minimal outfit as she is fit, healthy and overall likes to look after her body.

Session 4 - Fonts + Logo Development
Tumblr media
I decided to stick with having two different font’s as it stands out more, especially with the yellow pop of colour - it gives a fun vibe.
I also played with the layering.
Tumblr media
The more I looked at it, the more I thought something was missing. Or maybe there was just too much going on? Had my presentation and not many people were fond of the clothes hanger on top of the ‘i’ and If i’m honest, I agree because ‘Style’ already states the obvious that the magazine will be about fashion so what did I do? I removed it!
But then I couldn’t leave it without anything? then my boyfriend put on a Disney film and OMG! I had a eureka moment. The circle on top of the ‘i’ on the Disney logo gave me inspiration that it became what I ended up using. Similar at least.
The double layered font wasn’t doing much for anyone either because one of my friends even told me she felt like her eyes were all over the place and that she didn’t know which way to look (bit harsh I know) but I took that as critical feedback and also agreed with her on that. Bye double layering,
Now we are left with an elegant, BLENDED, two-word logo. I’m finally satisfied with it.

ABBREVIATION:
This will be added for any quotes posted or simply any small profile photo’s. Sort of like a signature.

Session 3 - Site Content Inspo
Here are some screenshots of 2 competitor magazine sites and a part of an instagram feed that I feel relate to the path I wuld like to take for my magazine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first one is a part from Fendi’s instagram feed. I adore the colour organisation and selection of pictures chosen because there are two simple ones on either side with a video in the middle. This creates an eye-catching yet interesting vibe that I’d also like to similarly achieve for my magazine feed too.
The second one are two parts from Harper’s Bazaar’s homepage. I find it interesting that they feature 5 of their top recent articles to be the first thing the reader sees. They also included a large gif that relates to their article. This is something I will be doing because it is easy to navigate and certainly attracted me to read their articles as I prefer visual to text. The text is also direct and relevant, you don’t see any waffling going on here - you can see they tell they own a specific style.
The last one is a minimal magazine website called Aesthetica. I like that the writing is small and the pictures are big - meaning their website is more of a visual one. This is important for my theme as I will also be focusing on minimalism. The layout is beautifully presented and makes sense for the logo used. I also like that there is a lot of RELEVANT advertisement/content on the right side of the page. I will be doing this as I feel the more content you have the more it looks like a magazine.

The New Fendi Mania Collab! | Fendi x Fila
https://www.elle.com/fashion/a23400814/social-media-collaborations-fendi-fila/via @ellemagazine
“…all the Italian kids had a shirt from Fila,” she recalls. The idea of blending two opposing elements appealed to her. “It’s like when you wear sneakers with a tuxedo, because it’s today’s life. There are no borders anymore.”
While fashion was once a one-way street, “today there is a dialogue. Fashion is taking and giving at the same time.” Says Fendi’s creative director, Karl Lagerfeld (who’s no stranger to collaborations), “Fendi is moving forward, changing and enticing…
That’s what fashion is about!”

Mission Statement and Values
- The mission for IsleStyle is to cater guaranteed updates with news from the cultural, British fashion world as well as lots of stylish trends, within the chic/minimalistic sector.
Values
- Empowering: Women’s suffrage, raising awareness.
- Entertaining: There’s more to life, turning a negative into a positive.
- Quality: Readers deserve the best.
- Passion: As an online magazine publication we need to have passion in what we write about.
- Sustainability: Saving the planet is our priority. IsleStyle must remain an online magazine only. Promote sustainability in every aspect.
Brand Philosophy - The Goal:
Technology is evolving. It is our future! and currently in 2018, our world is beginning to notice the desperate need for sustainability due to fast fashion or in other words – mass consumption. Therefore, this unique website will suitably apply to us millennial’s – the ones who are quick to pluck a garment off a rack, buy it and be done with it after the first or second wear.
We want our readers to feel happy when a new article has been published because they know it will be of their interest, making them feel part of something exciting. If it means encouraging someone new to go sustainable by entertaining them on a serious matter where they actually listen to it, then so be it. Lets make minimalism stand out from all the other trends.
Attitude & Angle
- After each article, leave a question for the reader
- Show only relevant and new information
- Not only show secondary research, show primary sources too as this can be more interesting to see a different perspective
- Explain viewpoints in a comical manner - makes it more exciting than stating plain facts
- Present empowering content every year to raise awareness of women’s suffrage

Tumblr media Tumblr media
After second week’s session, I began thinking about what my logo title could be. To start with I had already two brain storms. One about describing words then another on title ideas. Of course, I wanted it to have meaning and it have it relate to my concept, so I settled on StyleIsle only to find out that this already exists elsewhere so I just switched the words around. Pretty simple! Now IsleStyle has been born.
Then I plan to to write articles which highlight trends or women's empowerment through fashion - appropriate to read for young, stylish adults. I will also look at competitors and hopefully I can find something that keeps appearing in all of them - maybe something I would need to include in my website?
My 3 articles will be about:
1. FILA X FENDI COLLABORATION (will go to view pieces at Fendi, New Bond St.)
2. 100 WOMEN EXHIBIT A SHOWSTUDIO (will visit)
3. REGENT’S FASHION SHOOT (will participate)

Session 2 - Title and Objective Statement
After second week’s session, I began developing my logo title. To start with I had already two brain storms

I will also look at competitors and hopefully I can find something that keeps appearing in all of them - maybe something I would need to include in my website?
Having reached this point, I plan to build on my suite more and explore what visuals to include. I began watching WordPress tutorials on Lynda.com which I’ll carry on doing, as well as outline which stories I want to post on my magazine.
My 3 articles will be about:
1. FILA X FENDI COLLABORATION (will go to view pieces at Fendi, New Bond St.)
2. 100 WOMEN EXHIBIT A SHOWSTUDIO (will visit)

Persona Grid!
Above is my persona grid. The photo’s selected for the grid were dependant on my interests. However, it also gave me inspiration about the certain themes or subjects that I could probably add in my online magazine. Especially because It would mean I can write more about it as I’m passionate about it. One being Victoria Beckham who I look up to as my idol - her aesthetic fits my websites thematic vision and another being a girl looking at a visual magazine - again, something that would be great for my audience.
For someone who has never used this programme before, I’m pretty impressed with how it turned out. I’m happy that I’ve acquired a new skill.
