i'm very late to the party because amazon did a shit job of advertising and i only just found out about étoile a week ago but i cannot stop thinking about this show and tobias bell in particular

i adore him to no end and find him particularly fascinating

because tell me why tobias is yelling at julie about the jete in episode one and yet by the gala, he's calling her maddie. but despite the fact that he's forgotten her name, she's still important enough to him as a dancer that he literally lists "whoever maddie is" second among the things he's angry jack pulled him away from.

barely has any clue who david byrne is outside of "that thing on broadway" but still decided it was important enough to take a call with him about collaborating.

yelling at lula in episode 8 ("you're creepy, you look like you have a pendulum") and then when it lists the cast for "whatever this is" NONE OF THE GIRLS ARE NAMED LULA. WHO IS HE REFERRING TO AS LULA AND WHAT IS THAT POOR GIRL'S REAL NAME.

knows how to find an aa meeting in paris but thinks he ended up in munich.

successfully got himself to and from new york without telling anyone but gets lost easily enough that his employers literally track him.

forgets to talk to his boyfriend for a full year.

his bosses text back and forth about what kind of toothpaste he uses.

I could live a thousand years and still never get over how Nicky can not only shoot through two people in pitch black from a hundred plus yards away, but also catch and stash the shell casing with his bare hand without looking. I have to rewind it every single time bc i still can't believe it.

when I was a teenager and a young adult I really didn't understand a lot of things about racism particularly anti-black racism. so I read books written by black people about it. I recommend this method to anyone who is tempted to make their lack of understanding the responsibility of the group that they do not understand

i keep seeing well-meaning posts about tagging on ao3 claiming that 'no archive warnings apply' means a fic is fluffy and wholesome and maybe smutty but can be trusted contain nothing upsetting. and from the bottom of my heart, please, this is so wrong. like, even aside from the fact that 'upsetting' is a very personal definition, it literally just means that none of the big four archive warnings apply, and i promise you it's very possible to write a DEEPLY upsetting fic that contains none of those things.
