「WYNTER」

Wynter smiled warmly as she placed the box down and accepted the tiny plant from Isolde. “This is so sweet. Thank you.” Wynter looked at the girl, she wasn’t familiar. “Nice to meet you, I’m Wynter. I actually grew up in Morris, but I moved about six years ago.” Wynnie pursed her lips at the memory. “But, now, well… I’m back.” She chuckled. Wynter placed the pot next to the box, being careful not to break it. “Have you been in Morris long?”

Folding her hands, she observed Wynter’s care with the gift. She was pleased. “It’s nice to meet you, Wynter. I’ve been here about three years now. I live right down the street, about a block away. I grew up on the west coast, but I think Morris is home to me now. My parents are here.” She explained. Gesturing to the boxes, she raised her eyebrows. “Do you need help?”

. :○ ✧ she sat with her legs folded on top of the hand-stitched quilt, the cold cover of her book pressed against the bare skin of her legs. the white tea pot rested just a couple inches away from the edge of the cloth, the matching cup hovered in front of isolde’s mouth, steaming. her fingers looped through the handle and her lips pursed as she blew lightly on the searing liquid. the breeze was kind and chilled against her arms, her short sleeves exposing the ink swirled into her tinted skin. her eyes were lowered, sliding across the ink on the page. she felt settled into the moment. she smiled slightly to herself. days like this make you feel like you exist, she thought.

She had just approached the “unloading zone,” her fingers wrapped around the clay pot of a succulent as her eyes searched for the new neighbor. Just as she approached the back of the truck to peak around, the girl turned the corner right into Isolde’s small frame. The woman braced herself but laughed lightly. “Don’t worry about it,” She shrugged as she gained her balance. She held her hands out with the sentiment of steadying the girl’s box and grinned. “Hello, I’m Isolde. Welcome to Morris.” She held out the little cactus.

Grabbing the last of her boxes out of the moving truck, Wynter smiled as she looked upon her new home. It was small and quaint, but it was hers. As she stepped out from behind the truck, she ran into something, nearly causing her to drop the box. “Oh, God! Sorry about that. Are you alright?”
