21. What kind of relationships do they tend to intentionally seek out versus actually cultivate? What kind of social contact do they prefer, and why?
tbh i think he is kind of stunted in the making-relationships department because of spending like his entire life on the walvis and mostly knowing his shipmates, like, it’s kind of like how when you’re in a very small high school all your social contacts are limited and predetermined only he can’t even go to the next town over to meet kids from a rival school, he’s just on this whaling ship and -- on this whaling ship. with the other people on this whaling ship. and life ashore is knowingly temporary et cetera?? so he’s not too great at making friends or other relationships honestly!! he is amiable and finds it easy to get along with other people which is a good trait to have in his situation in life, at least. he will sit by anyone and have a conversation but going from that to anything you’d actually call a relationship instead of an acquaintanceship is -- ?????
27. What do they strongly like and dislike, in any category? Why?
Category: Minor aspects of life on shore. Strongly likes: having a big (gigantic, to him, in fact, both because he is tiny and because he is accustomed to a compact berth) bed all to himself with a mattress and soft blankets and he can roll around in it and sleep spread-eagle and potentially have a partner in it if he finds one. Strongly dislikes: being hassled by wildlife he does not know the name of

jackscrewed :
[See, Jackie is about to interject that well actually, his babies were lovely, but then he remembers them being red, wrinkly, squawling things, so he changes his tune.]
You ever seen baby ducks though? Like, you ever go down south where it ain’t too radded up and seen some baby ducks? ‘Cause sometimes the baby ducks around these parts are kinda ugly, but you get down to Florida, you start getting, like, baby ducks that are fluffy.
[Sandy ponders this counterpoint with real solemn contemplation, and finally deigns to nod]
Okay, the baby duck she can be cute. The duck she’s only half a bird, though, for a water bird is half a fish, so maybe then it don’t count. A mer-bird. A merd?
