Maybe I’ll see you at the train station, waiting—casually smiling as I fall into your arms for a long hug. Maybe I’ll feel your hand in mine, or hear your voice telling me you missed me too.

Do you think I’ll find you at the corner of McDonald’s in Megamall—your McCafe half empty, your food untouched? Maybe I can sit across from you and listen as you rant about your pending plates, how this isn’t the course you wanted, how you once dreamed of being a musician or an artist—but you were too afraid to become someone your father wouldn’t understand.

Can I hold your hand while you open up?

Can I walk you home again? Maybe you’ll offer me one earbud and we’ll listen to Tagpuan by Moira Dela Torre. I’ll tell you I haven’t heard it before (even though I have—but you love it, and now I understand why).

I’ll steal a glance at you just as the golden hour hits your face—perfect, unforgettable.

You might think it’s ridiculous—finding pieces of a person in the places you once went to—but what else am I supposed to do when all you left me with are memories? A Timezone photobooth picture with “I love you” scribbled on the back, long after we stopped talking. A familiar scent in a stranger’s jacket. A song I still play. A reason to keep writing.

Ask me why I still ride the train or the bus without a destination. It’s not the journey—it’s the hope of running into you again.

I once thought these were signs—a message from the universe that our paths might cross again. Of all the names I could’ve seen, why does it always have to be yours?

I filled every void with your memory: sketched your face across journal pages, gathered quotes from books and movies that reminded me of you.

This yearning has no shape but letters you’ll never read. My words rest on my tongue, aching to be spoken—only to be swallowed back down.

I know I said I’d stop writing, but what else am I supposed to do with this longing? This begrudging feeling that I’m not where I’m supposed to be—because you’re not here?

What do I do with the love that keeps coming back to you?
