Interview With A Local Artist (Ashidy Ridwan)

What inspired you to release an Ep?

My album entitled "Synesthesia", is an album tribute to my late father and son. It's an album written based on the fact that I am colourblind in real life but am able to see a unique spectrum of colours and shapes while making music. As a music producer and artist, I have developed many successful hits and various artists worldwide. Hence this album serves as an inspiration to the younger generation of aspiring musicians on the come up

2. What were the challenges you faced along the way while getting it all done?

Of course, the biggest challenge is the pandemic but nonetheless with the presence of technology, I'm able to work efficiently, recording different featured artists at different locations just to comply with the covid regulations. Another challenge was channelling the right energy to focus on the mechanics of this album as it has different genres in it. Thankfully with the help of my team and partners, it was all smooth sailing till the end process.

3. Who will be featured in the album?

This will definitely be a secret but what i can share is, it is a blessing to work with some of them. But nonetheless, let me name drop an artist who will be featured in my album, it's amazing....Carla Dunareanu, the talented actress from Mediacorp's Channel 5 Series "Kin".

4. What is the story behind the album and the songs in it?

I have 16 songs in my album and the song sequence is intentionally positioned as such that my listeners will get to see the different facade of me as an artist and songwriter. It is a heartfelt album that I wrote and produced for close to a year gathering materials and ideas. The album also features sick exclusive merchandise which i implore my listeners and supporters to purchase.

5. What will be your advice for those out there who would like to release the album someday?

My advice for any aspiring musicians is, never ever allow anyone or anything to come in between your passion and dreams. The key is to stay relevant in all your plans and find the ultimate circle of musicians and executives to work with. The right producer will be the most fundamental piece to your puzzle. Never doubt your talent and always push more and set no limits.

SWOT Analysis

Strength?

My strength is that I am finally able to release songs online for people out there to relate to it as I believe apart of therapy for us human beings is Music and being able to do so makes it a whole better knowing that people out wants to listen to your story. 

Weaknesses?

Due to the current state of our world with the pandemic, it will be hard to secure a venue with an assured number of audiences allowed in it therefore, ticket sales may be hard. 

Opportunities?

With this EP Launch I hope that it will open up doors and opportunities for me to be working or collaborating with not only locals artists but hopefully one day I will be able to collaborate with artists from different country and of different genres.

Threats?

As there are many other artists out there doing and releasing songs online, obviously there is competition to who does it better, how the songs sounds and whether the songs has made it out there with a lot of streams on Spotify.

Istifarah’s EP Launch

What?

It is an Ep Launch involving 6 songs of my own that I've written simply about love and heartbreaks. 

When?

The EP launch will be happening somewhere in January next year 2022 at the Esplanade Recital Studio.

Why?

The main purpose to why I’m picking EP Launch is because other than wanting to put my music out there by doing so it may contribute in opening up more doors or opportunity for me to branch out hopefully into international industries working with different artists.

Who?

Aside from my band members, some local artists that I would definitely love the share the stage with a few of my lasalle classmates. 

How?

To start applying for the NAC Grants to help with expenses for the launch. To start looking for available venues to have the launch at. To start planning on the set list, the amount of people I will be inviting to wether its an intimate launch or a public launch with a big amount of crowd. To source out for crew members for my audio production team.
