Five Rules to Interacting with Faeries
Tumblr media
The first is be aware that names have power, give yourself a nickname or give no name at all
The second is do not accept anything edible from a faery, to eat from the land of fae is to lock yourself from the land of mortals
The third is regarding information. If a faery gives you information, do not thank them. You may say you appreciate their assistance, but thanking is tantamount to admitting a debt owed
The fourth is about accepting gifts. Be very cautious when doing so, many gifts will have unforeseen side effects. If a gift is offered, accept it, but if you do not trust the one who offered it do not hesitate to destroy it. Salt water is always a good cleanser
The fifth is how to speak without offense. Most fae are very old, this means propriety is very important. Grudges can be held for centuries when you live a millenia. If you do not wish to do something the way you refuse is critical. Be polite, anything less may land you in hot water

Dangerous Women of Irish Mythology
Article by Sharon Blackie @ DWP
I’ve often heard it declared that Celtic myths and legends are largely heroic in nature, dominated by the exploits of roving adventurers like Fionn Mac Cumhaill, the battles of formidable warriors like Cú Chulainn, and the courtly questings of Gawains, Galahads and Percevals for the Holy Grail. It’s true of course that the old stories have their fair share of male heroism and adventure, but what often goes unrecognised is that the major preoccupation of their heroes is with service to and stewardship of the land. And the Otherworldly (divine) woman who just as consistently appears in these tales happens to be the guardian and protector of the land, the bearer of wisdom, the root of spiritual and moral authority for the tribe.
Old Irish texts contain an abundance of stories of powerful women who were embodiments of the Sovereignty, an allegorical figure who in many senses represented the spirit of the Earth itself, the anima mundi, a deeply ecological force. The power of Sovereignty (in Irish, flaithius) was the power to determine who should rule the land – but if the power she bestowed was abused, then disaster befell the tribe. Whilst a king reigned who was favoured by the goddess, the land was fertile, and the people were prosperous and victorious in war. But if the king didn’t meet her expectations, crops would fail and the tribe would falter.
So it was that the ancient rites of kingship in Ireland included a ceremonial marriage contract, the banais ríghi, between the king and the goddess of the land, and so fundamental was that idea to the Irish way of life that those rites lasted into the sixteenth century. In this sacred marriage, the king swore to uphold and protect the land and his people, and to be true to both; in return Sovereignty granted him the gifts which would help him to keep his oath. These old stories make it clear that, while there is mutual respect between the two partners – between the goddess and the king, between the land and the people, between nature and culture, between feminine and masculine – then all is in harmony and life is filled with abundance. But when the contract is broken, the fertile land becomes the Wasteland.
Sovereignty figures, however, are very different from the usual ‘Earth-Mother’ archetypes who symbolise fertility and prosperity. Like most women in early Irish literature, they are infinitely more ambiguous, unpredictable, and on occasion, decidedly dangerous. Mess with them at your peril. Sovereignty could show herself as a beautiful young woman, fairy mistress or wife; she could appear as a powerful (and by modern standards, promiscuous) sexual figure; she could take the form of a leprous old hag, or a harbinger of war and death.
Let’s take the example of Macha, just one of many fascinating and complex Sovereignty figures in early Irish mythology. Typically, her attributes include tribal/territorial goddess (she is associated with Armagh, Ard Mhacha, in Ulster) and fertility goddess – but she is also a battle goddess. And as is so often the case with these complex divine women, there are three different versions of Macha in the early texts.

🌙 Full Moon in Virgo
✧ 27th February 2021✧
If you’ve read some of my previous posts, you know that I’ve already talked about how the current astrological transits point to many big changes. This Full Moon is no different.
The Virgo Full Moon is greatly affected by Saturn squaring Uranus. There is strong need for independence and massive change. For some, this can definitely be uncomfortable and unexpected, but please do not fight it. The transformation is for the better, no matter how difficult it may seem at the moment.
Look back at the last 12 months. So much has changed on the global level, but also in our personal lives. Think about how you have grown as a person and acknowledge our strength. Reward yourself, you deserve it.
But at the same time, think about everything that is no longer working for you in your life. Habits, things, routines or people that you have outgrown but haven’t let go of just yet. Now is the time to do so.
Make sure you are not only focusing on your shadow aspects and all the heavy-duty stuff, but also letting yourself relax and feel free. We are in Pisces season - creativity runs high, so do that creative project you’ve been wanting to do for ages. Know that healthy balance is the key to success.
And as always, listen and follow your own intuition✨
✧ What you can do:
Shadow Work
Acknowledge everything you’ve outgrown and let go
Since Virgo is ruled by Mercury - I recommend writing everything down, journaling and taking notes of all your dreams, goals and wishes
Embrace any changes coming into your life
Focus on freeing yourself from the past
Let go of the old, so the new can come in

Note
I've seen a few of your posts on Hearth magic and it got me thinking, we protect the inside of our homes but do you have any ideas on how to protect the outside? I would love to have some ideas! Thank you :)
Charms and physical components to wards:
Add magical components to practical protection measures (gates, locks, etc.); wards, talismans/charms, a sprinkle of powder, etc.
A thin line of salt makes an excellent ward, and crushed/powdered eggshells can be used as an alternative for outside.
Create and bury protective jars in soil on your property. If you bury it directly in the ground, do it somewhere you’ll remember and consider what you’d do if the jar breaks and you have to recover the glass at some point (some people recommend biodegradable materials such as cardboard instead of glass). You can also bury it in a pot/ted plant—especially helpful if you don’t have a yard to dig in.
Some form of iron pounded into each corner of the property (in the soil or on a fence) or iron nails hammered into each corner of the house (or at least displayed) have been used as wards against spirits and the fae.
“Hang an iron horseshoe above your door, with the open end facing upward.” (1)
“Bells or wind chimes hung from the doors guard against intruders and stagnant energy. Hang them where air currents can ring them.” (1)
Plants and protection:
Use the trees and plants on your property to help create a protective ward
“Willow wands, bundled and affixed to a doorway, are a universal precaution against enchanters who seek to harm.” (2)
“Elderberry was thought to provide protection against witches, planted near homes” (3)
“For protective purposes, make a small ‘broom’ or whisk from a handful of birch twigs and use them to sweep around the edge of your property or home, symbolically (and literally), sweeping out the bad luck.” (4)
“[Holly] makes a very effective boundary hedge around the home, both physically and magically, protecting all within.” (4)
“Holly planted beside the front door is a tradition charm against lightning, fire and bewitching” (2)
“...Nettle also wards of ghosts and malefic spirits, whilst dried and sprinkled around the home or property.” (4)
House-warding plant combinations:
Pagan family protection combo: “Ivy (protection), snapdragons (ward negative spells), allysum (expels charms), pink geraniums (love), dark purple petunias (add power).” (5)
Hot spot container: “Zinnias, red coxcomb (protective, aids healing), marigolds (repel evil, nightmares).” (5)
Witch window box: “Red geraniums (protection, guard home), vinca vine (binding, protection), allysum, blue lobelia (halt gossip)” (5)
House-warding plants pg 131 of (1) and pgs 75 and 76 of (2):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Odds and ends:
“Walk your property boundaries with corneal and water (separately), asking blessings and friendship of the the spirits of the land, to guard and protect those who live here.” (1)

Do I Need To Cleanse?
Magically cleaning stuff is just a part of witch life. Unfortunately, our dust is invisible, so most of the time we have to watch for the symptoms before we treat the cause.
Do I need to cleanse myself?
Any witch, whether they feel they are actively ‘practicing’ or not, should cleanse once a month at the very least. Once a week is better. If you have recently experienced any of the following, cleansing is a good idea.
Misfortune, bad news, high stress, arguments, or losses
An unusual streak of back luck, poor timing, clumsiness, or awkwardness
Acting in unusual and negative ways, such as being short-tempered or being angry at people you usually like
A big spiritual working, spirit contact, or an unexpected or startling magical event
If you feel as if there is a cloud around you
Running in to someone who really hates you, or being pointed out as a success in a crowd
How do I cleanse myself?
Do I need to cleanse an object?
The object was worn during a big emotional blow-up or argument
Jewelry that keeps slipping off, hurts your skin even when it never used to, or doesn’t seem to fit right for some reason
For some reason you just don’t like the object any more
You don’t like walking past it, or having it in the room
It is working incorrectly or you keep almost injuring yourself on it, even though it hasn’t physically broken
Items that seem to ‘bite’ you or hide from you
Do I need to cleanse an area?
Something negative happened there, such as abuse or a very negative argument.
Walking through the area makes you feel uncomfortable and you will go out of your way to avoid it
It feels different, as if it’s someone else’s house and you shouldn’t be there
You feel very dull or stagnant when in the area, or you feel unusual and unexpected emotions coming to you
When in doubt, cleanse - it doesn’t hurt anything.
Is cleansing always the answer? Nope. As witches, we need to be aware of when we are beat. Some things are too powerful for us to tackle alone or even with friends or a coven. Throw the object out or return it to the earth instead. Also, not every object that we can cleanse should be cleansed. Not everything is supposed to be filled with happy and bright energy. It is not always wisest or best to change something just because we don’t like it.
- Tho

Candle reading made easy
Tumblr media
Hey loves, I don’t want to make this post suuuper long so imagine me blowing a welcome kiss to all of you and let’s get started…
The generic practice of reading fire is called pyromancy.
We can break a candle reading session down to 3 main parts:
Observation (flame watching)
Gathering & understanding (decoding fire’s messages)
Final question & Goodbye (ask if there’s anything else you should know before leaving, thank and salute fire/salamanders)
During the observation phase, watch for:
Length of the flame 1-2 min to know WHEN-the timing = PAST
Shape of the flame 2-3 min to know WHAT-the actual matter = PRESENT
Direction & behavior of the flame 3-4 min to know HOW-the true nature of it = hints at the FUTURE (see where the fire is pointing to know what type of matter it is; concentrate on the opposite direction telling you how to counteract to solve or banish whatever it might be; it also indicates what elemental energy is strongly supporting/protecting you in taking action as well as in related spellwork)
Presence/Absence of Smoke 2-3 min to understand the SOURCE of your awareness
*Keep a compass handy!
Salamanders/fire will try to communicate with you as soon as you light the fire/candle so pay attention from the very beginning. Fire energy is impulsive, blunt, active, carefree and wild.  This type of divination detects negativity like WOW because it easily speaks the brutally honest truth regardless of how you feel or what’s happening. It brings up issues that we refuse to deal with. Again, it’s pure blunt energy. Because of its wild nature, fire will also charge us with optimism and explosive determination to overcome problems and bad news: typically after pyromancy we feel motivated and “ready to go”.
Length
Long-extra long: something has been bothering you for a very long time now (trust your intuition, probably for years) which you never actively faced; you’ve been quiet for too long; unsolved problems from the past are challenging your patience; relevant stuff that had to be cleared much earlier
Medium: Something that has been lurking in the back of your mind for 1-3 months, a plan or an idea that could change/shake your life but is not currently a priority to you; it might be something you heard from another person or a vague thought
Short: something intense that happened within the last couple days, a very recent thing is bothering you and has almost caught you by surprise; unexpected news from day to day, a new sudden event that physically or emotionally shook you
Shape
Double: Two things that were generated consequentially or have a common link, two entities/people united by a common theme
Super-thin line: Something you felt or suspected but never had proof of evidence about, a subtle suspicion, a doubt, an insinuation; a sneaky or secretive individual
Regular: Something/someone that you accept and is part of your routine, your own mindset, something very close and not disturbing; a solid milestone in your daily life
Round: One thing in particular that constantly “fills you up”, makes you feel complete, full, exploding or either extremely delighted; a person who represses/suppresses you, someone ghosting you on purpose just to humble you or to make you feel lesser
Behavior
Steady: things are happening in the background, far from the “public eye” and without you even realizing; you - and people around you- are calm, clueless, peaceful and the surroundings seem safe; good vibes are in the air but definitely keep your eyes open and intuition awake
Shaky, wiggly: things are visibly happening before your eyes, making you confused, uneasy or giving you mood swings; anxiety; you are able to feel bad vibes around you: take control of the situation and protect yourself Weak, petite & almost extinguished: matter/person X is now annihilating you before the eyes of everybody, but still no one defends you; seek help in others, protect yourself and take action to win this ripe, suffered battle
Directions
EAST: AIR - communication, mindset, mental/spoken/written things, logical reasoning, ideas, plans, spring, morning, sunrise, masculine… WEST: WATER - emotions, unconscious, gut feelings, passivity, illogical reasoning, intangibility, blue, flow, moisture, fall, sunset, feminine… SOUTH: FIRE - action, guidance, strength, activity, blood, warmth, creativity, masculine, red, impulse, summer, noon… NORTH: EARTH - stability, firmness, art, finance, grounding, material things, tangibility, stillness, death, birth, winter, midnight, green… (+ ALL YOUR PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE about the elements and how they can be interpreted, what meanings they have in our lives and their specific correspondences)
Smoke
Absence: you are the source of awareness: your body and soul have sent you signals about matter X and you had an inner awakening which led you to this reading
Presence: someone else enlightened you with their words and made you fully aware of matter X; something popped up as an obvious proof that you weren’t expecting to find: this has awakened your inquisitive mind and led it to this reading.
Hopefully you’ll get inspired by this post and learn something useful to spice up your divination practice:) I thank you so much for reading, xox msmoonfire
