an oral thermometer takes the temperature of your mouth. a rectal thermometer takes the temperature of your rectum. [confidently] a digital thermometer takes the temperature of your finger.

On October 1st of 1949, soviet photographer Vladislav Vladislavovich Mikosha captured portraits among the crowd attending the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China, in Beijing's Tiananmen Square. He portrayed the faces of common people, of soldiers of the People's Liberation Army, and plenty of men and women in festive costumes or those of their ethnic minorities, performing shows, dances and songs. Mikosha stayed in China between 1949 and 1950 and his photos are among the most precious testimonies of China's rapid changes.

so i wore a pride flag pin to work the other day and the kids were all interested (obviously) (find me a classroom of preschoolers who are not obsessed with rainbows) (i'll wait) so they crowded around to see.
"aww!" they said, "it's a flag!!"
but the thing is: they're little. a lot of them don't really have a handle on all their mouth sounds yet.
such as, notably, that tricky tricky "L" sound.

As [Mikoyan] declared in a January 1936 speech: “I am a great supporter of the production of ice cream. Certain comrades believe to this day that ice cream is merely a children’s treat, and is of no use to grown-ups.” At this point Mikhail Kalinin, who was in attendance, exclaimed, “But everyone loves ice cream!” Mikoyan replied, “They love it, but some shun it out of hypocrisy, because they believe it’s just for kids. The production of ice cream needs to be expanded as much as possible. I am lobbying for ice cream, because it is a very delicious and nourishing food.”
important soviet discourse
