what's the tour montarvaprpawrqr or whatever french shit that word is?
ok im gonna infodump about fucked up buildings for a second so this is probably gonna be long
tour montparnasse in paris is my least favourite building in the entire world and i am slightly obsessed with it just bc of how much it sucks. its an office building and if you saw it from up close you might think ok this is a building. like its a little bland but theres nothing special about it
but then you zoom out a little
wow!!! what the fuck. that is so ugly. it literally looks like someone jammed a tv remote into the earth and i hate it so much. also this is paris so this monstrosity is within BLOCKS of the eiffel tower and just completely destroys the view. its so evil that there is now an 8 storey building limit in the area to prevent anything this criminal from happening again
some other shitty buildings i like include marina city chicago aka the corn cob buildings, which were designed with the idea in mind of a building with no right angles since ‘right angles do not appear in nature’
and rainier tower in seattle, which honestly just makes me anxious
but my FAVOURITE shitty building is part of the sydney university of technology (uts) campus
not just because it looks like someone made a building out of wet cardboard, but because the original design sketch is a work of art and it makes me cry laughing every time i look at it
It’s hard to believe that Johanna’s house was built in 2013, b/c it appears to be 100 yrs. old. When a suitable house could not be found by the sea, Johanna created one herself.
Johanna & her husband Patrik definitely wanted a log surface at home as well. One of the partitions was made of old logs retrieved from a demolition house.
They ordered the tile oven, but it’s connected to the modern water circulating heating system of the house. The cross board in the floor gives the illusion of a larger space.
Johanna is charmed by wood-turned candlesticks.
The legs of the island were originally stair posts- love that. Rustic bricks have been rescued from two burnt houses.
A wood stove is important in case the electricity goes out.
Johanna designed, drew and painted the kitchen cabinets herself.
The cabinet doors are from a dilapidated corner cabinet found in Johanna’s grandmother’s outbuilding.
Johanna decided to leave the gray rag paper exposed because the surface was so beautiful. She tore the paper into squares and fastened them like wallpaper. Lace cloths complement it nicely.
The old blackboard and framed plant pictures in the bedroom are flea finds from the trips. A wooden hanger is being used as a curtain rod.
Their son was allowed to pick out his own wallpaper, so every wall is different. Johanna made the table, the sofa’s from an auction, and the traffic sign poster from a flea market.
You can admire the sea view from the tub. The large black & white bathroom is stunning.
Watching a movie in the middle of the day or god forbid in the MORNING is one of the weirdest feelings in the world. Things that aren’t illegal but feel like they should be
