Avis Whistler from Step 1 to 3!

I wanted to practice drawing various body types, since the series is all about growing up anyways!

Also, I tried to depict a chubbier figure for my OC in Step 3, which I've never done before. Hopefully I did well enough so that it isn't entirely inaccurate!

Smol factoids:

Step 1:

Easily excitable and involved in everything athletic

Has been racing her homemade kart since she was 6 or so

Couldn't be caught dead not wearing a T-shirt and shorts at this time in her life

Step 2:

Let her hair grow out

More reserved, though still as confident in herself and her abilities as ever!

Though, sometimes she feels estranged from others

Step 3:

Pretty comfortable with herself as a person

Still an avid karter!

Enjoys cooking for her friends and family

Hello! I saw your post about OC asks, and I'm curious about question #23 (how organized/disorganized are they? How does it manifest in their life?).

HELLO DOLL IM SO SORRY IT TOOK ME FOREVER TO ANSWER!! Let me blabber 🗣️🔥

Winona is pretty disorganized in the general sense of the word. Most people would look at her workspace and think it’s absolutely in shambles — but it’s not so! Trust her, Winona has her own method of madness to follow. She has pretty intense ADHD anyways, and working in an environment just meshes with her brain. Too much perfect rigidity can actually be kind of disorienting for her.

Luella is probably relatively average when it comes to how well-kept her spaces are. She does need some kind of a system, otherwise she gets kind of overwhelmed. A busy surrounding can make her anxiety worse, so she tries to keep things relatively tidy. Her and Derek’s bedroom is very clean usually (with the help of Derek in maintaining it), but it’s mostly her bathroom that gets out of control. She doesn’t wear that much makeup, but she tends to just leave stuff on the counter and let it pile up while she’s in the zone, which leads to clutter. Her workspace is much the same.

Vérène is extremely neat in comparison to her friends, and that’s really just because of how her mom taught her to take care of her personal spaces. A lot of the hobbies she enjoys also requires a certain amount of organization, so it really just becomes second-nature to her. It’s also kind of comforting/soothing for her to clean, so sometimes she’ll end up getting carried away.

Mina isn’t super tidy, but also not terrible with her organization. She has an unfortunate habit of stacking papers and just shoving them into a drawer — but that’s usually a problem for future her. Her house can get a bit messy because she likes having trinkets and stuff, so she’ll sometimes just sit down with Qiu and figure out what needs to go. Her disorganization is less about being inherently untidy and more about nostalgia.

Maël, despite his best efforts, is absolutely terrible at maintaining order in his house. He sits things down and immediately forgets where he put it, which leads to moving more items in the search for it. He tosses things it random places and loses small stuff very easily. He tries, really.

I'm back!

It's been a while since I posted, though I wanna get back into the swing of things again. Here's some drawings (plus a drawn explanation of what I've been doing in the meanwhile, if you're curious)

Yale trying on a suit with Avis!

I wanted to flesh out their personalities a lot more, and while I'm not entirely satisfied with where they are now, I'm happy with this drawing!

Hailing from a metropolitan highlight, Yale is a calm, deeply compassionate, if taciturn, character. Her content demeanor carries itself into her intellectual hobbies, being an avid reader and writer—even if she's yet to show anyone her work! She's the most comfortable around those with a tight bond, and it takes a while to form one. Still, as time passes, her aspirations can only extend forth of herself, as independence and satisfaction with herself and her work—an increasingly rare commodity, as it stands.

Yale facts:

Yale was born in Naples, Italy on June 2nd, 2000 as part of the Costa family; an large, fairly well-to-do lineage.

Unless it'd be inappropriate, Yale always prefers formal attire. She'll always showcase a full attire if she can help it (like at a formal or during work).

She prefers to keep her hair relatively short—shorter than shoulder-length—and somewhat combed.

She plays the piano fairly well—she knows pieces she heard in her home city.

Yale enjoys reading novels (her favorites are fantasy and slice-of-life), and she writes as well (usually on the spot, when inspiration strikes)

She's not particularly active; no school sports and sometimes has trouble keeping up with Avis on walks and runs together!

Her favourite colour is orange: you'd see it in her outfits!

And for Avis:

Avis is an easily excitable character, ready to charge head-first into problems and situations. She carries her fiery personality into her passion for racing—karting, if you will. Starting her childhood career in a homemade kart (a couple tubes and a lawnmower motor), within a few years, had worked her way up to a third-hand professional kart—all before she moved to Oregon at the age of 10! There's certainly a calmer, homesick portion within Avis, though it'd take a lot to get it out, even with those she holds the closest to herself.

Avis facts:

Avis was born in Manila, Italy on September 3rd, 2000 as part of the Whistler family; a small and fairly recent name that's also well off.

Almost no matter the situation, Avis prefers casual wear—especially shorts, which are always chosen over pants or skirts.

She styles her hair fairly similarly to an Italian Bob, only with a lot more total hair in the system, making it puff up a fair amount.

Apart from racing her kart, which she can't do now anyways, she enjoys playing volleyball as a school sport.

Frei from Hello Charlotte!

I revisited the series after a long while and the art and the storytelling is still just as breathtaking as I remembered it! Still, I never made fanart of it before (probably because I was terrible at drawing bad then—though I'm not saying I'm great at it now 😭), so I decided to draw Frei. His (their?) character design is awesome! (And, actually, really pretty... Idk if I should be concerned or not). Will definitely be doing more! >:D

I definitely need to figure out a way to get better at drawing four-eyed characters tho—it looks so weird in my art style (still, I think this one's satisfactory)

Yale with the Drip

I think her design's really neat, though I'm still messing with how proportions differ between ages (or Steps, in this case). I have no idea how y'all draw so consistently 😭😭😭

Currently, I'm basing my measurements off of notable skeletal and muscular structures, which are initially determined by the characters head, which was originally 4.5 cm, which can scale by some amount (newMeasurement / 4.5).

Idk if this is effective or accurate, but I'm using the height of the torso as an indicator of age. Starting at around 6 cm and increasing by 0.5 to 1 cm per Step.

It takes a while, though I'm fairly hopeful that I'll better streamline the process later on!

Introducing my latest OC,

Yale Costa!

She shares a few commonalities, though clearly differentiates herself from my first OC, Avis Whistler.

They're both:

Ethnically Italian (haven't chosen a particular date/place of birth yet)

Relatively upbeat and extroverted personalities

Participating in a sport (not sure what discipline yet!)

Though, Yale:

Has a comparatively mellow personality; readily amiable and approachable

More studious and interested in literature/ technical arts

Right now, I've only got a nebulous outline of their personality and characteristics—though I am brainstorming ways to develop it. Plus, I do wanna consider and define relations between Yale, Avis and characters in OL:NF. It'll be fun though, for sure!
