It HAS to be TransMasc!Butters, I have a lot of confirmation bias on riding on this, so bear with me, I know most of the fandom probably doesn't see it xD

So first of all, I admit that male characters who aren't traditionally masculine often appeal to me, so obviously I gravitated a lot to that angle of Butters, but the thing that most interests me is: Butters has absolutely no doubt that he's a boy, despite how everyone treats him.

This is my headcanon, so obviously, a lot of it is just contradicting canon, and some of it working with it.

I do not HC Butters seeing himself as a girl pretty much never, ever since he was very young (Maybe since preschool) He expressed to his parents he wanted to be one of the boys. And his parents decided to go with it, not because they accepted him or had some sort of altruistic view of trans people, but because they simply did not want to raise a girl.

Stephen sees it as a way to "Redeem" his own shortcomings as a young man (Not fitting into his mother's ideas of a true man + all his internalized homophobia), and Linda wants to avoid the awkwardness of raising someone the way she was raised. Even then, this caused things to be rougher for Butters in the end.

In my HC, the reason Butters' hair is so short is precisely because having it any longer would make him look too "feminine".

His parents are already extremely controlling with his appearance, in "How to eat with your Butt" both Linda and Stephen have him grounded and made very hurtful remarks about his face, specifically Linda says that "He's making silly expressions" while Stepeh accuses him of wearing his mother's make up to look like a girl, while he insists that he didn't, yet they even make him wear a bag over his head.

Believe it or not, Marjorine also has parts of my HC, mainly the fact Butters (Just like the other boys) has absolutely no clue how to "act like a girl" and is generally awkward and terrified of it, he likely got picked specially for the fact he's the one who most looks like a girl, which in my HC is due to the fact he is AFAB.

Butters did not enjoy being Marjorine; he admits that they put him through a lot. He didn't know how to act like a girl, yet was forced to do so.

As soon as he gets out of the house, he throws off the wig and runs off to see his parents. He's even completely changed clothes and removed the make up once he's there.

A lot of other Butters episodes are often related to him trying to "prove" his masculinity or be accepted by the other boys as one of them. It was his main motivation for getting a kiss in "Butters' Bottom Bitch", also in "Sarcastaball" (Ignoring the fact it contradicts my HC anatomy wise xD) he is joyous to be accepted by the other boys for being good at a "sport" that highlights his most positive traits (Being kind and compassionate).

OK, talking more about more of the fanon part of my hc rather than my silly interpretations of canon xD

I always think of teen Butters as perpetually unstable, basically having a flippant personality where he's sweet and optimistic but also extremely anxious and explosive. So, adding that he's transmasc feels like an interesting combination for drama, angst, and even comedy through awkward scenarios of him struggling to pass as cis.

Imagine how awful his first period would be, with parents who refuse to explain anything beyond basics, friends who don't know and likely wouldn't understand, and overall having other mental disorders due to a long history of trauma.

He'd have to wear oversized clothing to hide his changing anatomy, making the issue of fitting with his male peers even more difficult, which would likely lead him to a lot of introspection, plus he already spends a lot of time alone, with how often he gets grounded. His parents would give him even more of a hard time when he acts or looks too girly.

I think it gives most of his trauma an interesting additional context. It's dark, so I won't go into detail, but you can piece things together if you think about it enough.

But most of all, I think Butters would still take everything in stride just because he's sure he's not confused and knows what he is and wants to stay as. He wants to be a boy, wants to hang out with the boys, despite his gentle nature and potentially softer attributes, he's happy being seen as a boy, even if that boy is a crying little pussy.

Additional note: I've been sort of holding on this post for a few days because I've seen some negative opinions on transmasc hcs, I'm frankly a bit scared, I also do feel kind of silly about it since a lot of it is very personal to me :( Sorry if it bothers anyone...
