Wat moet je weten over Lloret de Mar?
Lloret de Mar ligt in de provincie Gerona, regio Catalonië. Lloret is de meest toeristische badplaats van de Costa Brava. Misschien zelfs van heel Spanje. Normaal wonen er bijna 40.000 mensen, maar in de zomer kan dat aantal oplopen tot 160.000. Deze badplaats is DE uitgaansplek voor jongeren. Er zijn dan ook veel discotheken, cafés en barretjes te vinden. Ook veel Nederlandstaligen, omdat er ’s zomers veel Nederlandse gasten te vinden zijn. Het is geweldig om hier de sfeer te proeven, maar ook druk. De meest ideale optie is dus om een villa te huren net buiten Lloret. Dan kun je je altijd terugtrekken als het je te veel wordt.
De geschiedenis van Lloret de Mar
De allereerste informatie over Lloret stamt uit 966. Lloret heette toen Loredo, dat zou “plaats van laurieren” betekenen. Na 1001 werd Lloret onderdeel van Gerona en werd de toren van San Joan gebouwd om betere uitkijk te hebben op eventuele dreigende piratenaanvallen. Lloret lag vroeger meer het binnenland in, vandaar dat de Romaanse kerk buiten het huidige centrum te vinden is. Handelen met Amerika was verboden voor de vissers, maar vanaf 1778 mocht dit wel en werd er van alles geïmporteerd. Er waren mensen in Lloret die daardoor erg rijk werden. Ook waren er mensen die emigreerden en met veel geld terugkwamen. Er werden prachtige huizen gebouwd en flinke giften gegeven.
Na 1880 daalde de handel met Amerika flink en raakte Lloret geïsoleerd. Ze waren niet aangesloten op de spoorlijn en konden zich qua industrie niet ontwikkelen. De plaats groeide wel en het lukte ze toch om zich te ontwikkelen op het gebied van landbouw en wijnbouw. De wijnbouw werd bedreigd door de druifluisplaag, maar gelukkig kwam het toerisme op gang. Door de oorlogen werd dit verder niet ontwikkeld, maar vanaf de jaren 50 kwam het toerisme weer op gang. Zo werd Lloret wat het nu is!
Bezienswaardigheden in Lloret de Mar en de omgeving
Omdat Lloret de Mar zo toeristisch is kun je er van alles vinden om je te vermaken. Er is een waterpark waar je je goed kunt vermaken. Je kunt er bungeejumpen, skaddiven, banaanvaren, en je kunt het zo gek niet bedenken of het is te doen in Lloret de Mar. Natuurlijk is er strand genoeg en er is een boulevard waar je heerlijk kunt keuvelen.
Buiten het strand zijn er ook prachtige baaitjes te vinden. Zeker de moeite waard om op te zoeken!
Je kunt naar de tuinen van Santa Clotilde. Mooi om doorheen te wandelen en als je verder wilt wandelen kun je dat ook doen! Neem wel zelf wat eten en drinken mee en zorg voor goede schoenen!
Ook heeft Lloret de Mar een prachtige kerk die nog in gebruik is, dus je kunt ook een mis bijwonen. Dat gaat natuurlijk wel allemaal in het Spaans. Ook is er een indrukwekkend kerkhof in Lloret met prachtige graven!

Tossa de Mar ligt in de regio Gerona, en in de provincie Catalonië. De badplaats ligt niet ver Spanje in als je het vanuit Frankrijk bekijkt. Waar vroeger een kasteel stond kun je een vuurtoren vinden. Op deze plaats werd vroeger in de gaten gehouden of er geen piraten aankwamen. Hier is een museum gevestigd waar je alle informatie kunt vinden over vuurtorens in de Middellandse Zee. Hier kun je door de geplaveide straatjes lopen en jezelf voorstellen hoe het in de Middeleeuwen was. Na de achttiende eeuw is er aangebouwd rond de oude stadskern. Ook hier zijn dingen te bekijken, zoals een schattig wit klein kerkje, of overblijfselen van een Romeinse villa.
Op 20 januari begint het Festa Major d’Hivern. Dan is er kermis en worden er allerlei traditionele optochten gehouden. Ook is er een pelgrimstocht tussen Tossa en Santa Coloma de Farners. Hier doen duizenden pelgrims aan mee. In de week rond 20 juni is het Festa Major d’Estiu. Ook hier worden allerlei concerten gehouden, spelletjes georganiseerd voor de kinderen en vuurwerk afgestoken. De typische Catalaanse sardana wordt er gedanst. Erg leuk om mee te maken!
Ook vind in juni het Internationale festival van de Catalaanse Rumba plaats. Zo kun je al liggend op het strand genieten van muziek in dit genre.
Zoals ik al zei is Lloret de Mar dichtbij voor de uitgaansliefhebbers. En Gerona is een stad die in de buurt ligt en waar een paar mooie bezienswaardigheden te vinden zijn. Zeer geschikt voor een dagje uit!

Ook hier geldt: hoe eerder, hoe beter! Zorg dat je er op tijd bij bent, vooral in de feestperiodes. Als je nog keuze genoeg wilt hebben dan kun je het beste zo vroeg mogelijk boeken.
Bedenk op welke locatie je wilt zitten, bijvoorbeeld dicht bij het strand of juist niet.
