tumblr puritans have never spoken to a kinky person and you can tell this because they talk about ~scary~ kinks like a child who thinks their teacher sleeps at school. they have a 1700s "actors cannot be trusted for they engage in obscene behavior" mindset. yes lil buddy people can in fact roleplay situations and then exit that roleplay and have different thoughts and actions 🤗 adding sex to performance does not actually cast a magic spell that turns you into a monster incapable of morality <3

going insane because nimona is a movie about how hate is taught to us. it's a movie about how humans' first instinct is to be loving and caring and hate is something that doesn't come naturally. it's a movie about the difference of being perceived and being seen. it's a movie about wanting to be seen and understood. it's a movie about how hate can be unlearnt and love can be relearnt. it's a movie about how love always comes back to us in the end even though we think we have lost it. it's a movie about a little girl who was demonized to a comically large extent because she was a little different. it's a movie about that little girl finding love and a family. it's also a movie about blowing up bigots and dancing sharks.

One thing I want to point out about nimona is that it captures tenderness in such a visceral way that I haven’t really seen in 3D animation before? Like the way the characters curl into each other and melt makes me go INSANE

It’s INSANE to me how controversial romance novels are. Romance novels. Like, being openly a fan of them immediately opens you up to people constantly coming at you like “but don’t you think it’s ~limiting- and ~juvenile~ to have a genre of books with happy endings for women?”

Like.

No?

Why is it such a big deal to want to read stories where women have sex and then don’t die at the end? Jesus Christ.

Why is the concept of female characters being happy seen as less creative than female characters suffering? (Trust me, creating a world where women win in the end takes a lot more creativity and artistic vision lmfao)

Anyway, literary bros will pry my romance novels with their happy endings from my cold dead fingers.

First 10 lines

Whee, thank you for tagging me @junethaliamichael 💜 Because I’m a bit paranoid and 10 lines is a lot, I’ll just do a translation of the first 10 lines of my current WIP :)

The tunes slipped off the lyre’s strings like pearls from a broken necklace. They bounced off the floor with a quiet staccato and rolled away, just a short fade-out before they were swallowed by a new rhythm. Evan’s fingers effortlessly found the right strings to tickle the melody onwards. Carefully he looked up, looked at Ray, but his mentor kept staring blankly into the void. Come on! You only have to reach out for it! It took him so much strength to open his mouth, to let out the familiar, wordless tunes that nearly choked him.

Penny Edits 1: How to start editing your work

I’ve seen a few threads recently from people wondering about how to transition from writing fic for fun to taking their work seriously, whether that means aiming for publication or just trying to acquire more skills for personal satisfaction. There’s general agreement that you should start editing.

How, though? When you first start to look critically at your work, you probably aren’t going to see a set of discrete and easily erasable blemishes. You’re more likely to have a vague feeling that you do some things badly and other things fairly well. But they’ll all be woven together. Mess with one of the wonky bits, and a good bit falls apart.

Self-editing is a huge topic, but here are some pointers on starting out. I might do some more posts on specific topics, if there’s interest.
