I just finished Golden Wind and I wanna dump my thoughts and interpretations here (I haven’t read the manga so I may be wrong). The main subject here is Diavolo.

JJBA Golden WIND SPOILERS

My extremely unpopular opinion is that I don't think Diavolo is in a death loop/pocket dimension (yeah I don't consider PHF canon for this).

In said loop we were shown the number of deaths equal to the good guys he killed on screen (Bruno, Leone, Narancia and Polnareft).

Giorno told Cioccolata that some stand users feel remorse/regret and stop the power they are using on the other person (contrary to Cioccolata enjoying and causing suffering ). At the end of GW, I can see that Giorno feels slightly scared about his power as he also doesn't even know what GER did, he just knows to some extent that Diavolo won't reach the truth and will see no end. After this I can see him feeling a bit of regret, which makes sense since he is also a Joestar.

The truth Diavolo won't reach is killing Giorno because Giorno changed fate. In the KC vs Metallica fight we saw that Diavolo's premonitions could be changed and what he saw wasn't absolute. The outcome of his final premonition was someone dying (Giorno) which GER changed and the outcome was the same, someone died but this time it was Diavolo (pulling the Oingo Boingo card).

Trish could feel he was still alive and around because Diavolo's death and their talk happened simultaneously. He survived GER punches, the current brought him to that sewer. Simultaneously Trish can still feel him alive. Then Diavolo gets stabbed and dies. Imo this is his real death because it is the only death with a follow up which is the autopsy.He didn't drown, his death was getting stabbed in the liver.

Going back to Giorno. His wish when he pierced himself was to stop and defeat Diavolo. We were shown the arrow dropped at the end and, to me, this means that GER reverted back to GE.

Why? Because simultaneously to this scene Diavolo had finally died from the stab. Fate had completely granted Giorno's wish which was avenging his fallen comrades and defeating the boss, causing GER to revert to GE since he wasn't needed anymore. I definitely believe that the death loop stopped there.

I honestly don't think Giorno would cause neverending suffering to someone. It is not in his character. Maybe it was momentarily done to stop Diavolo and made sure he didn't come back but once he was dead for good, it isn't needed anymore.

Diavolo not seeing the end means that the loop confused his senses and he doesn't know which was his real death.

Ofc Diavolo will still go to hell regardless and pay for his crimes and maybe the punishment is eternal suffering but in Hell.

Which is different to his body and soul dying infinitely in other dimensions or as the whole fandom say “any death is canon”.

Again this is only my interpretation and probably my misunderstanding of the situation.

Or maybe.. I am definitely in denial because Diavolo is my favorite character and I feel like no one deserves the death loop. Cioccolata seemed worse than Diavolo himself.
