From a complete Warhammer noob.
I read The Infinite and The Divine, and it was absolutely hilarious and made me adore Trazyn.
But. The Necrontyr are SO humans, from artefacts, to traditions and habits, to body language and metaphors, to the structure of their society.
Obviously, the Doylist explanation is that the writer just could not be bothered and focused on comedy and action instead of inventing something completely (or at least convincingly) alien. Fair enough.
But could a Watsonian explanation be possible that the Old Ones used their enemies as a blueprint when they planted the seeds of humanity? And humans in Warhammer are basically updated Necrontyr.

Ok, I am an idiot and did not realise that reblogs do not show on tags (the easiest thing to notice, in hindsight).
So, posting this properly.
If you are a Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader fan with a crush on Heinrix van Calox and if you struggle to find references you should go and check the folowing post and all corresponding links. More specifically, the Aaron Hotchner compilations, especially from seasons 5-6.
You know, even if you do not have problems with references, you still should go and check (might also take a look at the top repost on this very blog).
Because Hotch? He does not even look like Heinrix, he is Heinrix. Granted, he is Heinrix who did not grow up in the Warhammer 40k universe and who, for instance, has a team and a wife (we know that Heinrix would be super happy to have both). He even had his very own Marazhai. ...I actually like Hotchner's "Marazhai" much more than the RT Marazhai...
It is a ideal match, I have never seen anything like this before. Henry Cavill? Please. Come on. None of the offical art or models even look like him. And they need not. Thomas Gibson's chiseled features, and giant chin, and semipermanent scowl are more than adequate. No, they are perfect.
Heinrix. Right here.
(also, consider watching at least some of Criminal Minds. By my estimations, the show went to shit by the end of Season 6, but early seasons were insanely good)

Damn, he even had the haircut...
(however, Hotchner is still too young and not rough enough in season 1. Unfortunately, one must compromise: it is either the haircut or the face)

Sweet potatoes, fifteen years have passed, and I still remember that episode, that specific scene.
You see everywhere this talk about Daddy Hotch, Hotch and his team, Hotch and Jack, and all of those are valid and important. But it also does not hurt to remember how early the series started to establish. How early they started to hint. To show. That Hotch, actually. Is out for blood.

But unfortunately for you, I am not a five-foot tall, hundred-pound girl. All your life you’ve gone after victims who couldn’t fight back, and the rest of the time you spent looking over your shoulder, worried about the knock on the door, scared that somebody like me would be on the other side waiting to put you away.  At your core, you’re a coward.

Do not recommend anything to me for homoerotism if it does not have a thing like this.

Yes, everyone absolutely must watch it.
Why does nobody talk about Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo?
Tumblr media
Like I feel like when people talk about weird anime from the aughts, this show should be the first thing that comes to mind, but I literally only found out about its existence while scrolling aimlessly through crunchyroll. I want more people to know and talk about this show, so here's the run-down:
It's a sci-fi anime adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas, originally published in 1844
It was produced by Studio Gonzo in 2004
It has an extremely bizarre visual style that I would describe as 'Gustav Klimt meets Ayami Kojima but also it does The Chowder Thing™ and sometimes there's PS2-level cgi elements'
It's extremely gay
And, most important of all: it's way better than it has any goddamn right to be
No joke, if tumblr staff wasn't so shitty I'd blaze this post bc I want more people to watch it*, or at least know it exists. Also if theres any other Gankutsuou-heads out there, hit me up! Tell me who your favorite character is and why it's Peppo.
*this anime does contain some really fucked up stuff, up to and including incest and sexual assault, and while I personally think that it handles these topics with the gravity they deserve, that's entirely subjective. I would recommend checking ddtd for any specific triggers you might have, there's not a ton of data there but from what I've seen it looks mostly accurate.

Two things absolutely essential to my processing of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, is that
I knew nothing about Warhammer lore and still know mostly what came up in the game.
My RT is this special character who isekais from one RPG to another, repeatedly. So he has isekai-ed to the Warhammerverse from his native Thedas via Toril.
I just imagine that his magic more or less continues to work in every setting, but there are periods of readjustment (thus the need to level up anew) and, of course, new checks and balances and limitations every time.
Incidentally, playing RT as a former Circle mage from Thedas is hilarious. There are so many false analogies, and being iconoclast comes naturally (as does hate towards the Imperium, but also distrust of Chaos).
I usually treat in-game interactions and scenes as draft material at best, not something to be taken verbatim, so to say. So, for instance, all these things that Heinrix says in the freezing scene would be distributed across several separate talks in my headcanons.
Anyhow, Norman is BAD at chess and could not play for life, so regicide sessions were out of question. I wrecked my head over how to facilitate their growing closer (especially considering that a former Circle mage who had once been best friends with Anders would not share Heinrix’s attitudes and values, to say the least).
So my current take is that Norman was using a variety of blood magic in battles but also for healing, and Heinrix got interested. Meanwhile, Norman was interested in his biomancy, which worked along completely different principles from Thedas healers’ magic (such as he knew at least). They decided to map those differences, started to meet regularly to practice and theorize, then Norman started to read textbooks on biology with Heinrix acting as a tutor.
I am inclined to mess with the timeline and have the genestealer crisis play out to the end before Commorragh. Then Norman, faced with his ignorance, might finally give in a bit, admit that Heinrix’s admonishments and warnings do make sense and ask to learn more about xenos. Que more walks, talks, discussions, whatever.
And after Commorragh Norman becomes obsessed with breaking Heinrix away from the Inquisition, but not for romance (and I am increasingly inclined to think that they had not got together properly till Act 4), but just on principle, because no one should be treated like this.
…Considering the ongoing “debate” about Heinrix using biomancy in bed.
???
…I don’t see the problem? Anyhow, this is a solid part of headcanons. Of course, they would use sorcery in bed, occasionally, to spice things up.

Might be a big misunderstanding on my part...
One thing I never see mentioned is that in other life Heinrix would make the hell of a healer. In fact, with some extra study he could become one even now. He already acts as a healer in certain scenes and as a proficient biomancer he obviously has an intimate understanding of human body.
Before the game gave us an opportunity to discuss his career prospects after leaving the Inquisition, I was lowkey headcanoning that he might have a radical change of profession and become a chirurgeon on RT's ship.
Btw, checked the Warhammer 40k wiki briefly, and of course they have this to say on chirurgeons.
Tumblr media
But then again, no one is mentioning this, so chances are high I misunderstood something and for some lore reason he cannot in fact become a medic even after he quits his old job... Anyhow, the guy chose to be a spymaster, so this is all strictly hypothetical.

Thanks to mods, we now have even more authentic Heinrix at home.
Wyll's animations suit him perfectly too. Between Wyll and Halsin, they cover all those lovely gestures.
Hand kissing? Check.
Forehead kissing? Check.
Corteous bowing? Check.
Gaze filled with warmth and complete attention? Naturally.
Inquisitorially narrowed eyes? Possible.
Warhammer armor and weapons? Within reach, thanks to tashaweeds and seran58, who made the comission.

...I wonder if I could commision his default uniform to someone.
And maybe the head. How cool would it be to have a proper Heinrix head in BG3?!
