In Basen’s Defense

So, I have thoughts about this. Basen did not shoot Loulan in the light novel. Or should we say, it’s not clear. We know the soldiers who enter the room shoot at her multiple times and it’s unclear who strikes her. I’m not sure why they chose to change it to Basen, drama probably and focus on a central character, like making her exit a whole dance that was a bit too long.

But I liked the dramatic look of Basen when he sees Jinshi’s scar, the loyalty he shows to him and anger towards Loulan with an intense glint in his eyes as he wants her to be punished for hurting someone he deeply respects.

Also, keep in mind there was steep punishment for letting someone of a royal personage be hurt. In the anime they don’t really make it clear that it’s Basen who gets beat by Gaoshun. This is meaningful because it’s why he wants to always be in front of Jinshi and takes it seriously when he’s been hurt, besides I believe just caring for him as he’s known him since they were young, but also because the punishment falls on everyone for them failing to protect him.

Trust me when I say Basen is one of the kindest souls in the novels. Yes they changed this scene up a little bit but it very much exemplifies who Basen is. A deeply honest and loyal person who takes treachery and harm to Jinshi very seriously. I think it’s a good moment but if you haven’t read the LNs, I recommend it. If y’all can’t get the nuance of these characters you’ll miss out on some of their best stories, like Bashu.

Between the scenes - Mission 117
Until proven otherwise in canon, I believe this man reads trashy romance manga in his spare time.
The thing he must do to understand his enemies - those mushy feelings - so he can better avoid them. All for the power of isolation ✊

Harrison Ford hating playing Han Solo made him better at playing Han Solo because Han Solo did not want to be there doing those things either.

There's an open pit in the middle of our office plan that drops down into a bunch of very sharp spikes that kill you instantly. This is bad. People keep falling in there and dying. Someone put a sign up, the other day, all bright yellow so you can't miss it, that says "Beware!!! Spikes!!!"
The office immediately split into two factions over it. One says that if anyone falls in the spike pit it's their own fault for being so stupid and not watching where they're walking, so we should remove the sign. The other says that the sign is an insult, there shouldn't be a spike pit in our office at all, and having the sign up like that is just normalising the existence of the spike pit, so we should remove the sign.
We ended up removing the sign. Probably for the better. Still... for a while there it looked like it might have worked...

you have to understand that i once worked at a lab with a walk-in freezer set at all times to -30 degrees (-34 C) and one summer we had a horrendous heatwave and i had to bike to work every day and i didn't want to spend the first hour of work drenched in sweat, still trying to catch my breath and cool off.
well one day the first thing i had to do in the morning was grab some samples from the -30, and i walked in and all of the sweat on my body basically flash-freezed and it felt so good. i cooled down in 20 seconds.
so from then on every single day when i got to work i just walked into the freezer and stood there for a minute.
i was usually the first in so nobody noticed for a few weeks until one day i walked in, panting from my bike ride on an unusually hot day, too breathless to talk, and one of my coworkers was there early and he started talking to me but I just wheezed an apology and put my finger up to say "one moment" and I walked into the freezer and then a minute later I came back out totally recovered and I said "sorry! : ) what were you saying?"
and he said
"how long have you been doing that?"
